1998 Ducati Superbike 996RS: They Don’t Get Much More Rare Than This!

One of two bikes used for the 1998 season by Troy Bayliss in the British Superbike Series. This bike has been in storage since 2000. Check out this eBayMotors auction for the bike that would eventually land him a ride in the World SuperBike series.

Own a piece of history, Troy Bayliss # 32 GSE Racing 996RS. Bike has been in heated storage since 2000. We just got it out of storage and replaced the belts and serviced the bike to be ridden once again. Bike comes complete with all documentation including a letter of authenticity from Paolo Ciabatti Ducati Corse. Bike was purchased direct from GSE and imported into the USA. This Bayliss bike is as raced and is in perfect unmolested condition. This was the full JHP/GSE effort constructed for the 1998/1999 season with Troy as the pilot. Comes with roller started and all the paper work.

Collector race cars and bikes are not really an arena I’m well versed in, but one thing is for sure: It’s a very rare machine anyway, and it’s been ridden by Troy Bayliss. It’d look great parked under the Christmas tree I’m sure!

1993 Ducati 888 SPO: Yep Another One For Sale!

This 888 SPO is being sold in San Francisco for $11.5k on Craigslist. It sure looks like a cream puff and the owner’s description sounds like this bike has been a labor of love.

1993 888SPO. Excellent, almost flawless condition. 8470 miles. Fully maintained, oil changed every 500 – 1000 miles. Valves, belts, and all fluids at around 8k miles. FBF chip, modified airbox, Termi cans. CF fender & hugger, Pro Italia CF under tail kit. Ohlins shock. 41 tooth rear sprocket. New Pirelli Corsa 3’s. Great runner. All stock equipment and manuals included. Everyone that sees this bike and knows about them tells me to never sell it.

The seller joined the discussion on the Yahoo 851/888 mailing list and states the bike is being sold as a result of divorce. Someone help this guy out!

1997 Ducati 900 SS/SP Supersport: Only 400 Miles!

Here’s a hot auction on eBayMotors for a 1997 Ducati 900 SS/SP with only 400 miles! With only 4 bids, it’s already showing $8100. Take a look:

I’m actually a bit surprised this auction is already at $8100 in this volatile economy. Even more so that $8100 is reserve not met! Seems like toys are being listed a solid 20% lower than usual, but not today!

1993 Ducati Superbike 888 SPO: So Are These Rare or Not?

Of course I’m joking, but with two listed already on this blog alone since July, I’m surprised that this rare model has surfaced as much as it has. Take a look at this Ducati 888 SPO for sale on eBaymotors:

This is a beautiful, classic machine, carefully kept to look and run well. Even now people ask if it is new. 10726 miles.

There are several 851/888 types out there; this SPO is Ducati’s flagship US superbike road model for 1993; a few hundred were made. Liquid-cooled, fuel injected, “desmoquattro” with a Showa front fork and Ohlins rear shock. Mono seat with lightweight fiberglass tail section with “Campione Del Mondo Superbike” graphics and a big number “1”.

All major service performed by Renaissance Motorcycles in Tucson. The bike was originally sold new at Renaissance. I am the third owner and also bought it there in 1998. This bike has seen a few track days but I have never raced it.

Modifications:

* Aftermarket carbon pipes and ECU chip installed by previous owner. These make the sweet thunder you expect. Original factory pipes will be included.
* Aftermarket voltage regulator keeps the battery charged much better than the original factory part.
* Rear fender/license plate hanger modified for a cleaner look. I have a spare unused original rear fender which will be included.
* Kevlar brake lines.
* K&N air filter.

Condition:

* Always garaged.
* Oil/filter and coolant just changed.
* Airbox and intake unmodified.
* Battery replaced earlier this year. I keep the bike on a Battery Tender.
* Cam belts are due for replacement.
* Tires are Michelin Pilot Sports with low miles but several years old.
* Current Arizona registration (passes emissions test).
* Paint etc. very nice but not concours ready.
* No crashes or engine blowups; this bike is still largely as originally built in Borgo Panigale.

I was first alerted of this sale because I subscribe to the Ducati-851-888 Yahoo Group. These guys not only know of all the 888’s on the market, they also know 851 and 888 Superbikes inside and out. A must join if you’re of the faithful.

Recently the group has suggested that the market is a bit softer and good deals can be had between $7-9k. What do you think a solid, documented, and low miles 888 SPO is worth? Leave a comment and share your experience!

1993 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale in Florida

It’s that time of year again. When the summer is just about over and all the bikes hit the classifieds after another riding season. Strap in, I’ve got a few to highlight this afternoon!

First up is this Ducati 888 SPO for $9k on Craigslist:

Update: This bike was only for sale for a short time when the owner emailed to alert me he had a change of heart and decided to keep his bike. We appreciate that he is willing to let us keep pictures of his sharp looking SS on the site. -dc

2000 Ducati 748R For Sale: Hello Hotness!

As I’ve stated many times before: San Francisco Craigslist is THE place to spot the coolest sportbikes for sale. Here’s a beaut of a 748R for sale:

And if you’re not familiar with what makes the R worth so much more than the regular model, here is an excerpt from the Wikipedia entry for the Ducati 748:

The top of the range model was now the 748R, Ducati’s racing homogolation model produced only in very limited numbers. This engine was again a derivitve of the SPS model but with more tuning. The main difference is that the R model has an overhead shower-injector arrangement compared to the 748E and S model’s traditional throttle bodies, titanium conrods, titanium valves and more extreme valve timing. As such, the 748R has a larger, two-part airbox and thus the frame was also different to accommodate this. The suspension choice was Ohlins for both the rear shock and front forks, although the very first models in 2000 used Showa TiN front forks and a Showa shock absorber. The engine included a very basic slipper clutch to ensure that this would then be homogolated for use in racing and also an oil cooler.

With specs like that, $8200 sounds like a bargain!

2006 Paul Smart 1000LE For Sale in Lynnwood

I spotted this bike for sale on DesmoNorthwest. While not exactly what you’d call rare, they’re definitely not commonplace either. And for $9700 I think you do a lot worse if looking for something special.
