Low Mileage, Original ’86 GSX-R 750

Location: San Jose, California

Mileage: 5,628

Price: Auction, currently $4,300

Quite a few of these early GSX-R’s have been featured recently here at RSBFS and they have all been cool rides. This one fits that bill too and it also has very low mileage and looks bone stock to boot. Finding sportbikes this age in this condition is hard enough. The fact that it’s a GSX-R 750 makes it even better considering the important history associated with the bike. I’m sure everyone here knows how the GSX-R 750 changed the game when it was released. In fact, you may be able to divide sportbike history by all things before the GSX-R 750, and all things after.

Here’s information from the seller-

Here’s a rare chance to purchase an unmolested 1st generation GSXR 750. This bike was purchased directly from the original owner. I did not register it in my name so technically the new owner would be considered second. It has 5,628 original miles. Never been modified in any way, original tires and every piece of documentation since day of purchase including sales receipt and warranty card. Original service manual also included. There are no service records because the owner didn’t put enough miles on the bike to require more than an oil change which were done according to schedule by himself. Bike even has the original tires ( Bridgestone Cyrox-04 Radial) although showing signs of dry cracking I felt it would be better for display purposes to leave them on. New owner will need to replace them if he plans to ride it often. Bike runs excellent, this is the most original GSXR I’ve ever owned since they were new. The only work it needed were cosmetic and changing of fluids. The upper fairing was tank were repainted due to damage suffered in the 1989 California Loma Prieta earthquake. Some boxes had fallen on top creating a small dent in the tank and left side of the upper where mirror mounts. paint was matched and looks excellent. See last pics to see the bike with the damage the day I pulled it out of the garage it had been sitting in since 1996. The owner confirmed that it had not been ridden since that time. All fluids where replaced and carbs disassembled and cleaned. Body panels all really nice, paint shines excellent, a few minor scratches but nothing too noticeable. Not a perfect bike but very nice original. I felt it better to leave paint as original as possible with the exception of the tank and upper fairing which would of detracted from the looks if not corrected. Not many ’86 GSXR’s with all the original paperwork anymore. Excellent investment bike as values are sure to go up in the coming years. Please email me with any questions you may have. I will ship bike anywhere, buyer responsible for shipping cost but I will be glad to assist with the logistics. Call with any specific concerns. Full Payment due within 72 hours of auction end.

And check out the pics-

The seller describes the bike as 100 percent stock and also highlights that it hasn’t been ridden for years. Clearly this machine falls into the category of collector bike because of its originality and mileage. It appears the re-paint work was well done and that’s key because any change to the originality of this kind of bike has an impact on the value. It may not be a large impact but it still needs to be considered so you might want some closer photos of that area. The bike does include some cool extras with the manual and original paperwork. I always love that stuff.

Where this bike ends up selling is hard to say. I think if you could take this home in the $5k range, you’ll being doing just fine. Clean examples like this are hard to find. If you have been looking to start collecting go check this bike out!

Muscle Bike Part Deux- ’91 GSX-R 1100

Location: San Juan Capistrano

Mileage: 20,789

Price: Auction, currently $1,825.00

Well, here we have another early GSX-R 1100, and I’ve said (on a ’91 750) that I think this is one of the best looking bikes ever built. And that I would put it up against any fancy Italian machine (or any other make) out there. I stand by that. I understand that some of you may not agree. Well that’s just fine, you can argue all you want. Bottom line: In this paint scheme this bike is a pure stunner.

Here’s some more photos of this knockout-

Here’s the information from the seller-

This GSX-R 1100 is the baddest of its time period. This bike is not for an amateur at all. I have owned many bikes and raced two strokes for years, this is a powerhouse that needs to be respected. This bike is around the 160 HP range and I do have a brand new Vance and Hines Powerpack for it in its original packaging also. I never installed because the bike simply doesn’t need it. In stock for in turns a 10.5 1/4 mile. Its faster now with its only modification from stock the Vance and Hines Supersport exhaust. This bike flies. I have never had it up to speed, to me though its the most beautiful if the 90’s vintage sport bikes and the last of the oiled cooled bikes.

Mechanically, the bike is excellent in all aspects and runs very well. At 20,175 miles the bike was fully serviced with all service receipts for $888.43 on 5/5/2010. Service included replacing fork seals, replacing chain and sprockets, servicing the choke lever spring, repair chain adjusters. The tires were replaced about two years ago and are perfect with maybe a few hundred miles on them. A bike that is ridden is better that one that sat for the last 10 years. No question. The pipe sounds simply incredible. I can only really equate it with a race car, on shift when it hits, nothing quite like it.

Cosmetically the bike is very clean. All the the plastics are original, if you look at the photos the bike is as represented, very clean, very few blemishes at all but I can go over the entire bike on the phone, again call for details. These bikes are very rare in this condition and should bring back some memories. Enjoy the ride…..

So it seems we have a clean bike that has had appropriate maintenance. There are some aftermarket pieces, like the exhaust and windscreen, along with the Powerpack still in the box. Mileage isn’t too much of a concern if the bike has been maintained as that air and oil cooled motor is legendary for its bullet proof nature. Now, I’m not sure the bike is in the 160 horsepower range as the seller states, exhaust and all, but I’m sure it’s plenty fast. It was a monster back in the day and the later models like this also had the chassis sorted out, so handling will be improved. Hard to say where the price will land but these run in the $4k to $6k range. I think anything in the middle of that is pretty solid.

You have a clean, early GSX-R 1100 with the best paint for those who bleed blue and white. What’s not to like? If you have been searching, you should give this bike a look.

Another Shot at The Grail- ’86 GSX-R 750 Limited Edition

Location: Portsmouth, Virginia
Mileage: 8,100
Price: Auction, starting bid $12,500 Update 10.16.2011: The owner has contacted us to let us know the bike has been relisted with a lower starting bid. Links updated. -dc

Okay folks, enough is enough. This is killing me. Another GSX-R 750LE for sale. In case the universe has not been paying attention, I don’t have the money for one of these, so quit putting them out there. Okay, I feel a little better now.

I don’t know that this bike needs much of an introduction by now. Especially since the excellent write up in Motorcyclist magazine (go here to check out RSBFS mention in that issue), much about what this bike is about is out there. It’s a truly special machine that costs significantly more than the stock factory GSXR750 in 1986, but it came with the extras to make it worth it. Again, I would point to the June 2011 issue of Motorcyclist and the article Riding the Legend-we ride the 1986 GSX-R750 LTD. The seller mentions the article and provides a link in the auction (below).

Here’s the seller’s write-up-

Here is a link to Ari Henning’s article in Motorcyclist Magazine on the 1986 Suzuki GSX-R750 LTD.

Not only is this one of the most sought-after sports bikes, but this one may be one of the the only ones left on the planet that is in this condition.

My father-in-law is painfully parting with his because the doctor’s don’t want his heart to beat quite that fast…

I included some pictures, but have lots more.

The Legendary 1986 Suzuki GSX-R750 LTD

It has been my Sunday morning ride for 20 years, and it draws a crowd anywhere it goes. The motor is silky smooth, a little soft on the bottom end, but pulls through its 13000 rpm redline with authority. Health forces sale! 63 year old owner can’t stand to see it sit idle.

8100 Original Miles.

Body work is perfect condition except for a thin scratch in the clear coat on the bottom left fairing, lower.

It has a smoke windscreen & headlight cover, solo seat, quick release body work fasteners, engine covers and foot pegs.

  • The fork tubes are 41 mm with progressive springs. They came with electronic neas anti-dive with servos that are triggered by the brake light switch.

· The rear suspension is a GSXR1100 Aluminum bodied remote reservoir shock with aluminum full-floater linkage

· The rims are 18” performance machine Chicane front and rear with Metzler performance tires 120/70 2R18 and 170 / 60 2R18.

· The brake lines are Kevlar front and rear.

· The bike has a close ratio 6 speed gearbox and dry clutch.

· The motor was professionally built with 771 Cosworth pistons with 13.5:1 compression.

· It has Yoshimura stage II cams, valves and springs. The heads were ported and flowed.

· The carbs are 39 mm Keihin, velocity stacks and new K & N filter pads.

· It has a full D& D exhaust with carbon canister.

· It has a Vance and Hines programmable ignition.

· The motor was tuned on a Dynojet model 150 Dyno. The motor made 120 RWHP on that Dyno up from 78 stock.

· The bike comes with the original owner’s manual and service manual.

Here’s some more pics-

As highlighted in the seller’s description, there are some modifications to this bike. While sometimes modifications can benefit a bike, when they are this rare and this collectible, you should weigh that information carefully. Even if a modification is a mechanical benefit, collectors tend to want all original regardless. I would keep that in mind when considering the value and how much you want to pay for a bike like this.

All that being said, this bike is a legend and a chance to own one is a rare opportunity. If you are a Suzuki fan or just a sportbike fan, this has got to be on the list of the all time greats. If it’s on your list, make the jump here!

Muscle Bike- ’86 Suzuki GSX-R 1100

Location: Scottsdale, Arizona

Mileage: 14,152

Price: Auction, BIN $4,999

These bikes keep popping up here at RSBFS, and for me that’s a good thing. Being a big fan of the older (and newer) GSX-R’s I’m always excited to see original bikes still out there. Back in the day, they were like the current bikes today, very cool and popular and subject to some serious damage and modification. Much like many things that develop a collector’s market later, in the beginning very few saw that market developing and so most bikes were seen as expendable. Of course, without that, there would be no rarity. Oh well, I digress.

Back to the bike. The seller doesn’t list a lot of information, but here it is-

Here it is!!

The Mother of all Super bikes!!

The One that started it all!!

A prime example of a Excellent condition, Garage kept 1986

Gixxer. Never ridden but started weekly. Not to be dissapointed.

All original fairings, tank and seat. Light scratching and one small fairing crack by left side mirror.

Starts and sounds great, should be serviced before ridding.

Vance and Hines exhaust and fender eliminator, comes with original exhaust and other misc. parts.

Liquidating my vintage Super Bike collection. Checkout my 1986 Honda VFR 1000 and Super Rare 1990 Kawasaki  750 Ninja ZX-7

Buy all three for a instant collection

Feel Free to call with any questions. Will help arrange shipping if needed.

$500 deposit required upon purchase

And there’s only a few photos-

So clearly there are some modifications, as highlighted by the seller, who also notes that original parts are included. This is good as again these bikes are certainly becoming more and more desirable. This is also the first year of the GSX-R 1100, which always scores a few extra points in my book. The seller does highlight a fairing crack up by the headlights, and that should be taken into consideration. Also, the bike has been started but not ridden, so there may be some maintenance that needs to be done to make it a solid daily rider. If well maintained, mileage shouldn’t be a concern.

So there it is. A clean, first year GSX-R 1100 in white and blue for a reasonable $5k BIN. Tasty.

If you agree, then check this (and the other auctions) out!

Wolf in Wolf’s Clothing- ’86 Walter Wolf RG 500 (Japanese Spec)

Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Mileage: 4,970

Price: Auction, currently $12,892- Reserve not met

If you’re interested in Suzuki’s and the words rare, special and awesome appeal to you, then here is what you seek. Behold the Suzuki RG 500 Gamma Walter Wolf Edition. These pop up here at RSBFS from time to time, usually from the UK or Canada. While Gamma 500’s are awesome and collectible in their own right, the Walter Wolf edition takes it up a notch (or three).

This particular bike seems to be a well cared for example that has everything you’ll want. From the seller-

1986 Suzuki RG500 Model:  RG500EW-2W

Super Rare Japanese Spec. RG500 “Masaru Mizutani Replica”

7995 KM or 4970 Actual Miles

Excellent Condition

All Original

Serial # HM1A105234

Super rare 1986 Suzuki RG500 “Masaru Mizutani Replica” one of only a limited number of 500cc Japanese Spec models. Made to commemorate the “1979 All Japan Champion, Class 750A, and all Japan 1981 Champion 500cc, Masaru Mizutani who at the time was sponsored by Walter Wolf Racing (See picture below). This bike is often referred to on this side of the pond as a Walter Wolf Special Edition, but it differs from the Canadian version graphically, it has integrated turn signals, a fuel gauge, passing lights, Walter Wolf instruments, key, and different wheel and seat color. In my opinion a superior model as a investment as well as a more complete package and attractive as a bike.  I have did considerable amount of research on this model both within the US and abroad over the last several years and have found only one other example, none in the US.  What few examples I found were the more common RG400 model , that are identical  with the exception of the “500” decal, and engine displacement do to the Japanese license restrictions at the time limited riding to just a few if displacement exceeded 400cc.

This bike is in very nice condition, all original, with 7995 Km (4970 miles) on the clock. The paint is very nice and I am not aware of any cracks in the plastics. The bike has been kept in temperature controlled conditions by former collectors including myself beginning in Japan.  The bike starts, runs, shifts, and rides like a RG500 should.  I am not aware of any mechanical problems.  Could probably use a minor tune if you decided to use purely as a street bike, but normally starts on first kick.  A toolkit, service manual, parts manual, rear seat pillion, extra dash foam, and a factory rg500 bike stand are included in the sale, along with my small collection of Walter Wolf items including a genuine helmet, racing leathers, and watch. The bike has No warranty expressed or implied.

A $500 deposit is required within 48 hours of the end of the auction. The deposit can be paid with PayPal the balance will need to be paid by cash or certified cashier check. Neither the bike nor the title will be released until funds have cleared. It is the buyer’s responsibility to arrange pickup or shipping, however I will be glad to assist where I can. At this time this auction is for US buyers only, international buyers can request to be added to bidders list, but must have paypal, ability to pay balance by bank wire transfer, arrange there own shipping and have excellent feedback

Bid with confidence, I am veri-sign approved. DON’T MISS THIS ONE. PS The fluid on the concrete you see in some of the pictures is water from A FRESH WASH, not a leak of any kind

And more pics for you-

So from what I can tell from the seller, there’s not much, if anything, that this bike needs. I also like the extras like the helmet that come with the bike. The seller also highlights the fact that this is a Japanese spec model (red wheels and seat, different graphics and other stuff highlighted above) making this version much more difficult to find than the Canadian/UK versions.

As for price, who knows where the reserve is, but these seem to command $15 to $20k in clean condition. Being a Japanese spec model may add a premium to that. And the bike also has a Texas title, if that helps at all.

So, there you have it. This would clearly be a collector bike in my mind and if you’re a Suzuki guy, this is a crown jewel. Especially if you are all about the Gamma. While these come up here from time to time, not many are the the Japanese spec and certainly this clean and original are gonna be key for any collector.

So if you’ve been searching, here’s your opportunity. To place your bid, make the jump!

1990 Yamaha FZR 600 Survivor

Location: Cincinnati, Ohio

Mileage: 9,388

Price: Auction, current $1,322

What we have here is a survivor from the start of the 90’s, quite possibly the best decade for sportbikes. The FZR 600 was a great bike (had the chance to ride one back in the day and it was awesome) and more a track bike than what I was riding at the time (’88 Hurricane 600). The 600 class was very competitive at the time and the FZR’s Deltabox frame, race orientation and killer paint spoke to many of us. I just didn’t have the money at the time.

This seller found this after years of storage. Here’s the rundown-

This is a super clean low milage 1990 FZR 600 RA.  Just out of long term storage and has not run since 2008.  Purchased from the estate of the original owner.  Only 9,388 miles. The original sales reciept is included along with the original owners manual.

It will need the usual service, maintenance and adjustments commonly provided to a motorcycle that has been in storage since 2008.  The tank will need a general cleaning but there is no significant old gas residue as the tank must have been drained before storage.  The battery needs to be replaced.  Tires look good and are not cracked but may need replaced for high speed use.  Carbs may need to be cleaned.  No visible leaks or drips.  Shifts through all gears and has strong compression commensurate with the low milage.

Photos show small to tiny scratches on front fender and right lower fairing which can be touched up or buffed out.  There is a section of the front right fairing that is broken/missing, see photo.  There is a very small nick in the seat which is an easy repair, see photo.  A great low cost begining for a show bike.

Good Ohio title. Build date is 10/1989.

This is a great example that has seen limited and careful use by one long term own.  Lots of miles and smiles remain for the new owner.  A lot of near classic motorcycle for the money and it will appreciate in value every year.

Please study photos and call me for more information.

Sold “as is where is” without mechanical gurantee…only my description is guranteed to be accurate and is back by a 100% money back pledge if I have failed to provide you a materially accurate description of the FZR.

A $200. deposit is to be paid within 72 hours of offer auction ending.  The balance is due within 7 days auction ending.  Paypal is ok for depot and for the remaining balance.

I will assist with shipping on this end but you must make all arrangements. I will provide indoor storage for 60 days. I may personally  provide enclosed delivery within 350 miles of Cincinnati Ohio for additional cost.  Call me for quote.

My feed back is 100%.  If yours is less than 92% and or you have fewer than 9 Ebay transactions you must call me before you bid or your bid may be cancelled.

And photos with more in the auction-

As the seller points out, this bike has been in storage for a long time and will need the necessary work to bring her back to life. And it does have the one broken piece in the headlight fairing and small spot on the seat. But otherwise, this is a clean, stock FZR600 that has survived pretty well over the years and comes in the best paint scheme there was. It’s simply gorgeous in my opinion and takes me right back to that day outside of my college town when I threw a leg over, grabbed some throttle and hit the first corner. Awesome.

So I don’t know where the auction will end price wise, but I think there is an opportunity here to pick a great bike at a good price. There will be some work to be done and the fairing may be difficult to replace. However, if done, here’s a great bike that will bring happiness and probably increase in value as the years go by.

This FZR is clean and the mileage is fine. If you want to pick up a great example of the beginning of a decade of many cool bikes, then make the jump!

One Owner, Low Mileage ’93 Ducati Superlight (#942)

Location: Brookfield, WI

Mileage: 2,637

Price: Auction, starting $7,599

There’s many a special Ducati that has been built over the years, and many get featured here at RSBFS. While they are all cool in there own way, I’m a fan of the Superlight. First, I like efforts in cars and bikes where builders are actually shedding pounds instead of adding them. It seems that with performance machines (especially cars), there’s usually one direction to go in the weight department, and that’s more. So when a company goes the other direction, I pay attention. Next, I love the yellow fairing, white frame and the weight-saving pieces (Mavic’s, carbon fiber goodness). Maybe it’s not traditional Ducati colors, but I just dig it.

Here’s what the seller has to say about this machine-

Offered for sale is this fine example of a rare 1993 Ducati 900 SL (SuperLight)

I am the original owner of this motorcycle which has only 2637 miles on the odometer. This is actual mileage.

The bike has never been crashed, raced, abused or been at a “track day” event.

It has been a part of my collection since new and now it is being sold to make room for new interests.

Though it has been lightly modified, all the original parts will be included in this sale. Please see the pictures to view the included parts.

This SuperLight is being offered with the following modifications:

– Fresh Tires ( originals will be included per the request of the winning bidder ).

– 39 tooth rear sprocket.

– Braided stainless steel brake lines.

– steering damper

– Fast by Ferracci 11.5 : 1 pistons ( runs just fine on pump gas )

– DynoJet kit

– K&N air filter ( airbox lid has been modified to fit )

– Ferrodo brake pads

– Tank Guard

Again,  the original parts will be included in this sale.

The carburetors have been gone through by a professional and they meter and idle perfectly. The interior fuel tank, lines and fuel pump are all new and the interior of the fuel tank is shiny and rust free.

I have ridden the bike for a few miles, it idles and runs with no issues. Everything on the bike works. The bike will likely need some miles put on to re-seat the brakes.

I have only lightly washed when it was taken out of storage ( as seen in the pictures – still wet ) . It has not been detailed- I will leave that labor of love to the new owner. It should clean up beautifully and show to a high level.

This is not a show bike, but rather, a very well preserved example of one of the last great two-valve, air cooled Ducati superbikes – with a pedigree , low production number, and desireable rarity.

The following is a list of some flaws:

– Corrosion to the banjo fittings and interior crimped ends of the external oil return lines ( likely stemming from an unnoticed battery spill ). This is hidden inside the fairing.

– A crack in the rear left turn signal lens. ( see picture )

– A repaired cracked tail lamp lens ( see picture )

– Some tiny nicks to the paint on the right side of the fairing ( see picture )

– Some typical haziness to some aluminum parts. This will all polish very easily.

– Typical age-related blemishes, only noted for descriptive accuracy .

This bike, when detailed properly, should display at a very high level. It IS after all an 18 year old motorcycle – however having seen very little road use.

I will assist in the crating of the bike for shipment, and careful packaging of the parts, however:

All costs and logistics related to shipping will primarily be the responsibility of  the successful bidder. I WILL NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR TAXES, DUTIES, VAT, CUSTOMS, EXPENSES OR ANY OTHER EXPENSES BESTOWED UPON THE NEW OWNER, OUTSIDE OF THIS TRANSACTION.  This is a non – returnable vehicle so I will work closely with the winning bidder to assure safe packaging and crating to assure a mutually beneficial experience.

Questions? Ask.

And photos-

The seller highlights all the modifications and maintenance that have been done to the bike and says all original parts will come with it. It’s also a bonus that this is a one-owner bike. All the history rests with one person. The mileage is low and the seller highlights the cosmetic and maintenance issues that exist with the bike.

Starting bid is $7,599, which is right in there for one of these beauties. Who knows where it will go from there. But if you have been looking for one, I think you owe it to yourself to check this bike out.

Blue and White Beauty- ’91 Suzuki GSX-R 750

Location: Canoga Park, California

Mileage: 10,515

Price: Auction, $5,000 BIN

I will never get over how good looking this bike is. The blue and white fairing, the old school GSX-R frame. It really does’t get much better than this in the GSX-R world and I would put this up against any other bike out there. Maybe not as stylized as the Italian counterparts, but this GSX-R reminds me of a classic American muscle car. It looks bad ass, doesn’t hide it’s intentions and has no pretense of refinement. I love it.

This bike looks to have gone through a few owners, but has had recent maintenance. From the seller-

 1991 Suzuki GSXR 750

**Great Shape & Very Clean Condition**

99% Stock

10,515 miles (mileage will go up as I still ride, but not more than 200 miles)

The bike is very strong, smooth & shifts through every gear without any problems.  ALL lights, turn signals & horn are in working order.  It is a great looking 20 year old bike and I get a lot of compliments wherever I go.  Everything is original with the exception of turn signals, license plate bracket, rear spools & DID gold chain.  The rims were polished by previous owner.  There are some minor scratches which are shown in the pictures.  Front brakes are good & brand new rear brakes.  Tires are in great shape and will last for another few thousand miles.  I made every effort to show the condition of the bike with the pictures I’ve taken, though no warranty expressed or implied and is Sold As IS.  I’m sure you will agree that this is a great & clean looking bike.  She is always stored indoors.  I have a clean California title in hand.  Registration is good till November 2011.  I have a 100% positive feedback so please bid with confidence.  I just recently sold my 1989 FZR 600 & 1990 Suzuki Katana and I’m selling her to downsize.  A new bike cover, Bully lock & Onguard lock will go to the winning bidder.  The rear stand IS NOT included.

Here is a little history of this bike:  First owner, who was in the military, sold bike after putting 900 miles on it.  The second owner traded the bike to his brother, an auto mechanic, for a truck.  It stayed stored in his garage & was not ridden for the last 10 years before I bought it with 9,976 miles.  The speedometer needle broke, which was common for these early models.  This was confirmed to me by two mechanics at Suzuki of Van Nuys & Tarzana Motorsports.  Suzuki used to sell speedo needles separately due to this.  I purchased a brand new OEM speedometer as you can see in the pictures.  The old speedo will go with the sale.  Below are recent maintenance & items I purchased.  I have the receipts & will include them with the sale.

See link below for more pictures:

Thank you!

Not a lot of pics in the auction (but many in the photo bucket link above)-

Again, this bike seems to have only gone through a few owners, been stored inside, and has relatively low mileage. There have also been some modifications, but not many, and there does seem to be a lot of recent maintenance. Good to know if the bike has sat for quite a while, as the seller describes. There are some dings and scratches that are highlighted in the pics on photo bucket. Some people might find the bike has a few too many cosmetic issues, but they don’t seem too bad to me.

So, seller is asking $5,000 BIN. Seems like it may be a bit high with the condition but not crazy. Certainly anything under that mark makes it pretty attractive. And I can’t get over the paint. Just beautiful.

I obviously like these bikes. If you do too, make the jump!
