Collector Alert: ’95 Ducati 900 SS/SP with 811 Miles

Location: Carmel Valley, California

Mileage: 811

Price: $8,799 BIN

Okay, we’ve seen a few Ducati’s lately here on RSBFS, and that’s not unusual as they make some of the coolest bikes out there. The Superlight, 888SPO and 851 are all killer rides. In the Ducati world, the 900 SS/SP might not be the rarest of all Duc’s but when it has 811 miles, then it’s time to pay attention. Collecting is not only finding what is collected today, but also anticipating what will be collectible, if you have the vision. I’ll put this bike in the future (if not already) collectible category.

Here’s the seller’s info-

Ducati 1995 900 Super Sport SP, Fully Faired Collectable Bike

Let me be very straightforward, if you are looking for just another  “ridden hard and put away wet” Italian motorcycle you can stop reading right now.

I am a collector in Carmel California and over a period of 20 years built a very special motorcycle collection.

You may have seen the other 7 bikes from my collection that I have sold over the last 8 months… each better than the next. Many setting a new standard for sales price as they should.

This is the last of my collection to be sold, and what I consider one of the most beautiful and classical Italian machines ever designed.

The 900 Super Sport SP series was the last modern great looking Modern yet individual Italian design before all brands started looking alike.

Each one of these Ducati’s were plated and numbered, this bike being number 810. The motorcycle has been owned by only two of us since new and has only 811 original miles. This is a factory unmolested example. I have the original clutch cover but the bike has a correct period vented carbon fiber cover now. Everything else is as the Factory delivered it to the States.

The bike has been watched over by my personal mechanic Ted Porter of Santa Cruz, Ted worked on my entire collection when we were both back East and now once again on the central coast of California.

Anyone can go out and buy a 16K new Ducati that looks and feels like everything else out there in the Asian Sport market, or you can rarely find something as important as this machine for half the price.

This is a bike that can add so much to a collectors group of historic bikes, and so hard to find without be beaten to death, or all fiddled with after market stuff.

If you want to collect or ride the best of the best, you just found it.

Good luck to you and let me know if I can answer any other questions… there is not much more to be said, it is exactly what is stated.

And the photos-

I don’t know what really there is to say about this bike. It’s low mileage, and stock. And a total beauty. If you’re looking to start a collection, add to your collection, or maybe just want a basically new 900 SS/SP, then you’ll want to give this bike a look. The seller is asking $8,800 bucks. High price? Sure. But consider what that gets you in a new bike. Granted, the maintenance won’t be the same, but what a classic ride.

So it’s up to you. If you dreamt about these when they were new, now might be your shot. If so, check this thing out!

Italian Special- ’93 Ducati 888 SPO

Location: West Hampton, New Jersey

Mileage: 19,000

Price: Auction, with a reserve

I find most all sportbikes cool looking in their own way. I’ve made it no secret that even the 90’s super graphics on many a Japanese bike appeal to me. But for pure looks, Ducati is hard to beat. And in the world of sexy bikes, the 851/888 bikes are about as good as it gets. This SPO is simply stunning. Bike art in my book. A total living room piece.

However, this bike doesn’t just stop at looks. You like limited edition, homologated specials? Okay, here you go. Ducati brought this four valve liquid-cooled bike for AMA purposes. So you also got an Ohlins rear shock and awesome solo seat.

From the seller-

1993 Ducati 888 SPO

One of a kind – probably one of the nicest condition Ducati 888 out there…

I am the original owner, and this bike has been babied since I got it new in 1993.

Runs Great, Sounds Superb and looks red hot!   I’ve posted a short YouTube video of the bike, so please check it out …

Bike has/had …

  • New Timing Belts
  • New Barnett Clutch
  • New Front/Rear Tires
  • New battery just installed 4/2012
  • Custom Corbin Seat
  • Carbon Fiber Front/Rear Fenders
  • Carbon Finder – Instrument Panel
  • Tinted Windshield

 Bike will come with …

  • Rear Pit-Bull Stand; a must for sport bikes.
  • Original front/rear fenders
  • 2 sets of keys
  • All service paperwork and original manual

Bike is located in New Jersey. Local pickup preferred, but will ship and will run around $600-$700.

And the pics-

This bike certainly looks clean and the seller includes the original fenders for those who like all stock. These are collectible bikes, so stock parts are important. At 19,000 miles, the bike has been ridden. But if maintenance has been done that shouldn’t be a huge issue. The seller also includes a Pitbull stand, which is a nice addition.

These are beautiful bikes. Who knows where the reserve is, but I would guess a bike like this would likely approach the $10k mark. I  would also guess that these bikes will hold their value over time. So if you have the means, here’s a investment you can ride (well, occasionally). Anyway, if you’re interested, go check this auction out.

’87 Suzuki GSX-R 1100 Slabby. Not Perfect, But Original and Low Mileage!

Location: Brighton, Colorado

Mileage: 7,918

Price: Auction, currently $1,320 with a reserve

I’m always happy to see an old, original GSX-R pop up for sale. Everyone here probably knows that I’m a big fan of the GSX-R line. I’ve always found them to be representative of a real working class bike. A muscle bike. Great performance and really groundbreaking development from a relatively small company compared to other Japanese rivals like Honda and Yamaha.

Here’s the seller’s brief words-

1987 Suzuki GSX-R1100. This bike is all original and only has 7918 miles on it. It looks and runs great. There is a small crack on the upper right fairing and a small hole under the decal on the right lower fairing (see pictures). Other than that this bike is in excellent condition. Thanks for looking

And the photos-

As I say in the title, this bike is not perfect. It does have some scratches and cracks that are highlighted in the photos. However, it also looks very original and the mileage is low for an early slabby. Seller says it runs great and you’ll want to be sure of that as the bike is now 25 years old.

I don’t know where this auction will end. These have been going around the $5k to $6k mark. This may be a little less. Hard to say. What’s not hard to say is that they are going to get harder and harder to find and I’m betting will only increase in value over time.

If you’ve been riding a slabby in your dreams, then you may want to go for a little reality. Make the move and place your bid!

Low Mile, Original ’90 Yamaha RZ350 Up North

Location: Calgary, Alberta, Oh Canada

Mileage: 3,946 (6352 Km)

Price: Auction, $6,000 BIN

I’m guessing most readers here at RSBFS know the Yamaha RZ350, specifically the Kenny Roberts edition, as it was actually imported into the US for a brief time. Folks in the US know the issues with two strokes and how rare they are here, but not so everywhere else. So the RZ350 is a common bike for the rest of the world, along with many other killer two strokes that were never brought to the States. Here’s a 1990 model, a version built well after they stopped bringing them to the States in ’87.

From the seller-

THIS IS THE REAL DEAL ! I AM SELLING MY 1990 RZ 350 THAT IS ALL YAMAHA ORIGINAL !!!  9 OUT OF 10 !SERIOUSLY IT STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL FRONT TIRE. THIS IS THE LAST YEAR THIS SMOKEN 2 STROKER WAS AVAILIABLE & I HAVENT SEEN ANOTHER IN THIS SHAPE OR WITH THIS LOW OF KILOMETERS(6352) IN QUITE A FEW YEARS . IT HAS A FEW MINOR SCRATCHES  IN CLOSE UP PIC OF RIGHT SIDE FAIRING(CANT BE SEEN FROM 3 FEET AWAY)  WAS LIKE THAT WHEN I BOUGHT IT . CANADIAN BLUE SPECIAL EDITION. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO OWN A COLLECTORS BIKE . JUST HAD IT IN TO OUR YAMAHA SHOP FOR A NEW REAR TIRE , CARBS CLEANED,STERRING STEM BEARRINGS,WHEEL  BEARRINGS , FORKSEALS & ALL FLUIDS CHANGED TO BE 100% RUNS LIKE NEW NEVER REBUILT. YOU PROBABLY WILL NEVER FIND ANOTHER  DEAL LIKE THIS AGAIN THAT WASNT STORED AWAY IN A CRATE . SO DONT MISS OUT . RIGHT TO END AUCTION  WILL BE LISTED LOCALY ALSO

Photos for you-

This does look to be a clean version for a 1990. Seller lists it as all original and no aftermarket or replaced parts stand out. The bike does have some scratches and minor blemishes but looks to be in pretty good shape. The seller mentions recent maintenance and the mileage is low. You’ll want to make sure that it does run well as bikes that have sat around can have their own special issues.

The seller is asking $6,000 BIN. That’s somewhere in the ballpark for a low mileage ride like this. Auction starts for less so you may be able to work out a deal.

Whatever the case, if you want a cool two stroke, this may be your chance. So go check this auction out.

Italian Two Stroke -’86 Cagiva Aletta Oro S2 125

Update 4.7.2012: Originally listed in September 2011, I believe this to be the same bike that is currently listed on eBay. Very close mileage and still in New Hampshire. Looks like the original windshield has been refitted. Links updated. -dc

Location: Chichester, New Hampshire

Mileage: 1,319

Price: Auction with reserve

Want a super cool two-stroke that you don’t see everyday? Well, I have it for you. Here is a Cagiva Aletta Oro S2 125 two stroke. We all know that two strokes are not common in the U.S. market and certainly Cagiva’s are not common either. So here’s an opportunity to have what I’m guessing would be a really fun bike to ride or something to fill a hole in your collection. Or both.

The single cylinder 125 cc pumps out a not so staggering 23 hp at 9,100 rpm. So this is clearly not a speed demon. But it’s also a lightweight 271 lbs. So it could be a blast for grabbing some corners.

Here’s some more pics (with many more in the auction)-

Here’s the breakdown from the seller-

VERY VERY RARE 1986 CAGIVA S2 125 2 STROKE ROAD RACE BIKE.. WELL IM THINNING DOWN ON MY BIKES, AND HERE IS A VERY HARD TO FIND BIKE.. YOU DONT FIND THEM OUT THERE FOR SALE SO HERE IS YOUR CHANCE TO OWN THIS CLASSIC RACER.. VERY LOW MILES “2124 KM” WITH EQUALS 1319 MILES AND IT RUNS GREAT AND STARTS ON THE 1ST OR 2ND KICK…CLEAN BIKE FOR A 1986 BUT IT NEEDS A LITTLE TLC LIKE A NEW FUEL CAP,TURN SIGNALS ETC,, THE FACTORY WINDSHIELD HAS BEEN CUT DOWN.. BUT PARTS CAN BE FOUND ON EBAY ITALY “ETC” I HAD A VERY LARGE COLLECTION OF BIKES AND THIS BIKE WAS GREAT BECAUSE ITS RARITY AND COOL LOOKS…PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THIS BIKE IS 25 YEARS OLD AND GOOD LUCK FINDING ANOTHER ONE OUT THERE.. WITH THAT BEING SAID PLEASE REVIEW MY PICTURES AND IF YOU HAVE ANY FUTURE QUESTIONS PLEASE EMAIL A $250.00 IS DUE WITHIN 24 HOURS FROM ENDING AND MUST BE PAID IN FULL WITHIN 3 DAYS FROM ENDING…. PLEASE CONTACT ME ABOUT MAKING FINAL PAYMENT… BIKE IS SOLD WITH A BILL OF SALE ONLY,, N.H. DOES NOT TITLE VEHICLES OVER 15 YEARS OLD..BUYER IS TO ARRANGE THERE OWN SHIPPING….

The seller highlights the bike needs work and that there has also been some modification, the cut down windshield being notable. The seller also notes that these parts may be found on Ebay. The other thing significant thing is the fact that it comes only with a bill of sale. The bike is not currently titled, so that may present some problems.

All that being said, the mileage is low and this is still a unique machine that could be an awesome addition to any garage and a blast on curvy roads. Or you can just freak out other sportbike people. Not many of these around, so if you want to take a shot at this one, make the jump!

2009 BMW HP2 Sport with 35 Miles!

Location: Lake City, Florida

Mileage: 35 – like I said above

Price: Auction, currently $13,100 with a reserve

Before the introduction of the BMW S1000RR and it’s impact on the sportbike world, BMW didn’t have a lot to offer in that department except for this- the HP2 Sport. Unconventional in its design with a horizontally opposed twin cylinder motor, telelever front suspension, and shaft drive, among other things, the HP2 is nonetheless a motorcycle that performs well and gives the rider unique performance machine with exceptional build quality. It’s not like everything else on the road, and that’s not a bad thing.

This particular example has only 35 miles on it. Nothing significant by any standard, but especially in the BMW world where owners take pride in the 100,000 mile bike.

More pics-

The seller doesn’t offer a lot of detail about ownership but lots about the actual bike. So read up-

GARAGE Kept, Perfect new condition. Couldn’t resist a deal on this one, but I have no need for it. Time for it to go. Call for any more info on it.

– 2009 BMW HP2 Sport

2009 BMW HP2 Sport

Based on the R 1200 S Sports Boxer, with a racing pedigree that has been honed on circuits around
the world, the new HP2 Sport is the most powerful, lightest and advanced Boxer-twin yet, and the
first production Double Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) Boxer in BMW history.

Achieving130hp at 8750rpm and 85 ft-lb of torque at 6000rpm, the engine is truly formidable. With
a dry weight of just 178kg, the bike’s power to weight ratio guarantees impressive performance.

The HP2 Sport has been designed with racing components originally developed for its extensive racing program:

· The frame, derived from the R1200S, has been adapted and strengthened to racing
standards.
· The six-speed close-ratio gearbox is equipped with a quickshifter, enabling split-second
clutchless gear changes without easing off the throttle – the first production motorcycle to
be so equipped.
· A lightweight carbon fibre fairing, including a self-supporting seat unit.
· MotoGP-style dashboard
· Forged aluminum wheels
· Brembo brakes with radially mounted calipers
· Specially developed Öhlins front and rear suspension units.
· Stainless-steel two-into-one exhaust system mounted under the sump to optimize lean
angles
· Fully adjustable footrests, brake and gear levers

In essence, the HP2 Sport is “track-ready” but fully compatible with street riding. Although racing
potential is clearly at the forefront of the design of the HP2 Sport, this does not mean forgoing
safety design features such as ABS. Available as an option, this sophisticated anti-lock system has
been designed specifically for the model, and has been configured to be switched off for track use.
Its racing pedigree has already been established in Canada with the BMW Motorrad Racing Team,
featuring factory riders Michael Ferreira and Paul Glenn, having debuted the HP2 Sport race bike at
the Canadian Thunder Series of the 2008 Parts Canada Superbike Championship.

An uncompromising riding machine for those with supersports intentions, the 2009 HP2 Sport will
be an irresistible choices for the hard-core performance rider

BMW HP2 Sport
Outstanding race results are inexorably linked with BMW Motorrad’s flat twin “Boxer” models. So it is an obvious step to build a high-end version! The result is the BMW HP2 Sport: the uncompromising realisation of the 24-Hour Endurance racer as a road machine. 100 per cent motor racing genes, licensed for the road. An exclusive sports machine by BMW Motorrad for motor racing connoisseurs and 2-cylinder enthusiasts which puts racing expertise into serial production – with power and authenticity. With anincredible air/oil-cooled 133 bhp and 115 Nm – a unique performance for a serial production “Boxer”!

BMW HP2 Sport – uncompromisingly athletic.

For ambitious sports riders, the BMW HP2 Sport is the non plus ultra: consistent lightweight construction, excusive details and top-class materials give it truly unique quality. The self-supporting front and rear sections in carbon, even lighter forged wheels and filigree components reduce the dry weight to an impressive 178 kg. Exclusive motor racing features to be found in serial production for the first time such as the shift assistant which allows shifting without accelerator release and clutch disengagement, and the DOHC cylinder head with its four radially arranged valves. A maximum engine speed of 9500 rpm provides pure Grand Prix feeling! Speed fans can enjoy complete banking freedom since the aerodynamic high-quality steel exhaust system has been moved under the engine and seat and ends in an attractive rear silencer in the single-section rear. The large-volume silencer provides an inimitable “Boxer” sound – an acoustic thrill for racers. The 2D GP dashboard derived from Moto-GP racing provides all information to the cockpit. The chassis, ergonomics and vehicle geometry are individually adjustable, guaranteeing excellent handling. This orientation to the rider’s personality is highlighted by the use of carbon: due the consistency of this material the trim is made almost entirely by hand, making every BMW HP2 Sport a unique specimen.

In short: the refinement of the BMW HP2 Sport combines impressively high riding performance and exclusive visual appearance to provide maximum riding pleasure as you have never experienced it on a flat twin “Boxer” before!

Throttle up. Blast off.
With a staggering 130 horsepower, the HP 2 Sport features the most powerful Boxer engine ever designed by BMW Motorrad. For the first time ever, double overhead camshafts are included in our famous opposed twin cylinder motor, kicking out even more revs. Making the HP2 Sport even more track-ready is new Quickshifter technology, which means faster gear changes without having to chop the throttle or use the clutch. Add a fully adjustable Ohlins sport front and rear suspension, Radial mounted Brembo Monobloc brakes, a lightweight carbon fiber aerodynamic fairing, not to mention forged racing wheels and tires and a MotoGP-inspired cockpit that computes lap times and other racing data, and the result is one of the most advanced sport bikes to ever scorch the tarmac.

More 90’s Goodness- ’93 GSX-R 1100

Location: Longmont, Colorado

Mileage: 28,180

Price: Auction, $3,000 BIN

There’s been a lot of high-end, rare bikes featured on RSBFS lately and why not – it’s what we do. RC 30’s and 45’s by the boatload and it seems you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting a Bimota lately. All cool stuff. But what if you want a cool bike that has made it through the years and doesn’t cost as much as a house in a nice mid-western state. Well, then you look at something like this ’93 GSX-R 1100. Not super rare but clean versions are not easy to find. And also not super expensive, but still cool.

From the seller-

Up for auction is a 1993 Suzuki GSX-R 1100.  I bought this bike last year from a Steeles Cycle in Ft Collins Colorado.  The bike ran great for about 2 weeks and then had a major carb issue.  Steeles took the bike back and rebuilt the carburetors.  I got the bike back and it ran great, I took it on one nice ride and then parked it for the winter.

This bike is big and FAST.  Can definitely keep up with anything out there and is great in the turns and canyons.  I do have a clean and clear Colorado  title in my name.

Could use new fluids but brake pads and rotors are great.

I tried starting the bike today but it would not start.  Im sure all it needs is a good carb clean to get it running again as its been sitting for about 4 months.

And the photos-

The seller describes the history and I’m sure the first thing you’ll notice is that the bike didn’t start during a recent attempt. The seller also talks about a carb rebuild and the fact it may need a carb cleaning to get it going. So you’ll want to figure that out. The bike looks stock from the photos and it may have some nicks and dings. But not too bad overall for a bike its age. Mileage is getting up there, but these engines are tough. And the BIN price is $3,000. Get the thing running with not too much work and I think you have a killer ride for $3k.

So there you go. A cool bike that isn’t going to require you to apply for a second mortgage. Take advantage and make the jump!

Another Clean, Low Mile Yamaha FZR 1000

Location: Oradell, New Jersey

Mileage: 3,500

Price: Auction, currently $4,000

Well, for some reason the early FZR1000 has come out of hiding in numbers recently here on RSBFS. Here’s another one. Clean, original and low mileage. It doesn’t have the killer over-the-top 90’s graphics of this one. But it is a killer looking ride. And these bikes put out enough power (roughly 140 ponies) to keep your time on the street interesting.

Here’s the info from the seller-

Rare 1990 Yamaha FZR 1000 with 3500 original miles in absolutely great condition, garage kept, runs great, new tires, also have original single seat conversion matching cover and original exhaust.

This bike is adult owned, all stock, never dropped.

A must see for someone that is looking for an original almost new vintage Yamaha FZR.

Photos for you-

This looks like a real clean, low mile bike. The only mod looks like the aftermarket D&D pipe and the original is included. Finding a bike like this that survived over the last 22 years is not all that common. Mileage is low enough that you will be able to ride this for some time without any worry. You also may just want to keep the mileage low and enjoy looking at it in the garage everyday. Up to you.

So there you go. Another clean FZR1000 for the taking. Who knows where the auction will end. If you want to find out, make the jump!
