Late Two-Stroke: 1995 Suzuki RGV250

The waning light of the two-stroke era really brought out the best Japan had to offer, with a spate of lightweight 250cc road racers with DOT concessions that would pull the front wheel more or less at will. Suzuki’s RGV250 v-twin topped the heap, with prodigious power, decent reliability and years of development to keep it as rideable as such a bike can be. It’s no surprise that these engines powered Aprilia’s world-beating 250s Grand Prix bikes of the era.

1995 Suzuki RGV250 for sale on eBay

This 1995 Suzuki RGV250 Gamma is a South African-market bike, meaning it runs a de-restricted engine that pushes out the better part of 65 horsepower, almost none of which hits until about 7,000 RPM. The bike here is in impressive condition, and appears to be unchanged from stock.

The fairings show nicely, the stock expansion chambers are not rusty and the switchgear is clean.

From the eBay listing:

A great mint example of true collectors item.
This VJ22 has been kept in a private collection for the past eight years and has only done 1950 miles. The engine is as perfect as the day she left the factory.Tyres were replaced recently as the original factory tyres were starting to show signs of deterioration due to age.The factory original tool kit is included.
Worldwide shipping is available at competitive rates.
Shipping(insurance included) to all major ports in:
U.S. and Canada : $ 1 780
Europe : $ 1 550

Shipping from South Africa makes this RGV a steep proposition for anyone hoping to flip it, but as an addition to a collection or an occasional rider it’s a nice mount.

Ready to Rip: 1989 Yamaha FZR750RR OW01

Yet another spotless machine from Gary’s Utah collection, this 1989 Yamaha FZR750RR OW01 is the second of its kind from the collection that we have written about this year. Like the one before it, it is spotless, though it has a few more miles and is ready to ride, shod with a brand-new set of Michelin Pilots.

1989 Yamaha FZR750RR OW01 for sale on eBay

The bike is a Japanese-market example, and still shows the original home language stickers on its windshield. This example has been de-restricted, meaning it packs its full complement of 120-odd horses. The polished frame, red-white-blue bodywork and EXUP branded exhaust all show flawlessly, and the bike has traveled just north of 3,000 miles in its 28 years.

The fairings are the original pieces, though they have been resprayed in the stock colors along with the bike’s wheels. The seller says it runs beautifully and contains all new fluids.

From the eBay listing:

Up for sale is a 1989 Yamaha FZR750R OW01 with only 5047 kilometers (3136 miles). Bike is in mint condition with no issues. Wheels and fairings have been professionally resprayed with factory correct color codes. Bike is completely stock condition but has been de-restricted for full power. Fairings and components are 100% genuine factory Yamaha. New Michelin pilots have been installed front and rear. Not a scratch on the exhaust muffler or fuel tank. Bike looks showroom new condition. Bike runs fantastic. New battery and fluids throughout. This bike will not disappoint.

Bike comes with Utah state title and is titled as a street bike for road use. 801-358-6537 for more pictures or questions. $200 deposit thru PayPal immeadiatly after sale. Balance due by check, bank wire or cash in person within 5 business days.

The bike is not the time capsule that Gary’s last OW01 was, but it is in slightly better condition, and is priced at $26,500, about $3,000 over the last bike, commensurate with its shape.

Featured Listing: Stunning 1987 Honda RC30!

Update 11.27.2017: SOLD! Congratulations to buyer and seller! -dc

Our buddy Greg at Deftone Cycles has a near-constant stream of gorgeous grey-market bikes come through his doors every year, from fairly standard JDM imports in excellent condition to some real unobtanium pieces that you have to be fast to catch. It’s no surprise, then, that this super-rare 1987 Honda VFR750R RC30 from Greg’s personal stash is both rare as dog feathers and in excellent shape.

The bike really looks like it just rolled off the line, with almost no blemishes anywhere and a mirror shine on all of the bodywork despite having just under 15,000 miles on the clock. Greg says he bought it last December from the original Japanese owner.

First year bikes like this one were in such demand that they were distributed to customers through a lottery, so whoever owned this bike was serious about making sure she got just what she wanted. As we mentioned, that care has resulted in a bike that is spotless on every surface, down to the chain and sprocket. Being a Japanese-market bike, its power is restricted to “just” 75 horses, though a few fairly simple mods can unleash the full complement. It can be distinguished from Euro-market bikes by its tiny twin headlights; the European bikes had much bigger units installed.

In Greg’s own words:

1987 Honda VFR750R RC30 JDM
Purchased in Japan from original owner.
Imported into united states December of 2016.
Vin matching State of Ohio Title.
23299KM
Being sold out of my Personal Collection.
This is the first year of production. when produced the first bikes were only available to buyers via a ballot system in Japan.
Asking 28k OBO.

OW Yeah: Two 1989 Yamaha OW-01s at one English dealer

1989 Yamaha FZR750RR OW01 for sale on eBay

The Yamaha OW01, also known as the FZR750RR, is a unicorn in any condition, with just 500 bikes spread over a three model-year run. They were more exclusive, marginally more powerful, and a big chunk more expensive than Honda’s genre-defining RC30.

1989 Yamaha FZR750RR OW01 for sale on eBay

Like the Honda they were up against, OWs won scads of races worldwide, including under American 500cc Gran Prix ace Eddie Lawson at Daytona. All that desirability, coupled with their extreme rarity, means they don’t show up for sale too often, much less two in the same place at the same time.

And yet, here we are. This English dealership has managed to score a brace of 1989 Yamaha FZR750RRs, one with black and white wheels, one with two black wheels. Both bikes appear to be in excellent shape, though the one with bi-color wheels has covered nearly 25,000 miles. The black-wheeled example has not yet cracked 5,000 and looks like the prize of the pair.

Oval-piston wonder: 1992 Honda NR

Back in the early ’90s, Honda was still known for pushing boundaries with build quality, poise and panache unrivaled among its competitors. Throughout the decade, Big Red claimed some truly great accomplishments that dragged motorcycling further toward the coming millennium. But in ’92, Honda spat out one of its craziest street creations on record, the 750cc V4 NR.

The NR was not a homologation model as much as it was a celebration of the brand’s grand prix and endurance racers of the late 1970s and 1980s. It sported oval pistons that allowed eight valves per cylinder and required eight connecting rods, for an engine design that resembled a four-cylinder V8.

The bikes, which are heavy by today’s standards and pump out a now-modest 114 hp, rarely change hands, so any opportunity at one should be taken seriously. This 1992 Honda NR sports 5,000 miles, a lot for a bike of which just 300 examples were built. It appears to show some wear accumulated along the way.

From the eBay listing:

If you are looking at this motorcycle, you know what it is. Ready to ride or show. Outstanding condition., , The Honda NR (New Racing) is a v-four motorcycle engine series started by Honda in 1979 with the 500cc NR500 Grand Prix racer that used oval pistons. This road going NR750 uses elliptical piston with curved long sides. These bikes are rarely for sale. Great value for money., Will be sold as is off the container with all VAT and Duties paid and entered onto the NOVA system, due instock appx end feb 2018, SELLING WHAT WE ARE HAPPY TO RIDE OURSELVES,UK-WORLDWIDE DELIVERY, over 150 more bikes available on the MOTORCYCLEGIANT website.

The bike is for sale through an English dealer that is importing it from Japan. Under most circumstances, that could spell a deal breaker, as there are much easier ways to get your hands on a a bike. In the case of the NR, though, the waiting and paperwork will be well worth the struggle.

Hen’s Tooth: 1983 Bimota SB4S

Hailing from a time when Bimota had its pick of mass-produced engines to stick into lovely bespoke frames, this 1983 Bimota SB4S is a one-of-34 machine from a factory that wasn’t exactly known for its production capacity. What makes this SB4 so rare is that it is fully faired, setting it apart from the other 200-odd SB4s built.

1983 Bimota SB4S for sale on eBay UK

Under the gorgeous red-and-white bodywork lies a Suzuki Katana 1,100 engine, which was about the baddest mill money could buy at the time, and brings the weight savings and simplicity of air cooling to the party. As mentioned, the bike sports a hand-welded frame of Bimota’s own design and crafting, and the best suspension money could buy at the time.

From the eBay listing:

Super rare and stunning Bimota SB4 SS

Only 34 factory built full fairing bikes were made and this bike has been sat in a collection and never used

Powered by the incredible Katana GSX1100 engine and fitted with the best forks and brakes that money could buy this was the ultimate sports bike of its day

Terrific value and a solid investment to ride or collect

Making this bike even more special is the fact that it is a zero-mile machine. It was purchased and stuck in a collection, making it a truly unused and untested time capsule. The machine is available through eBay classifieds in the U.K. for £15,885, or about $20,000.

Nice Original: 1996 Kawasaki ZX-7R

As the fall riding season winds down on the East Coast, the sportbike market has tightened up, with the year’s choicest machines long since spoken for or mothballed for another shot at a big sale come spring. There still are some gems to be had, though, and this 1996 Kawasaki ZX-7R is one.

1996 Kawasaki ZX-7R for sale on eBay

It’s the perfect green-white-purple Kawasaki livery, its bright green fairings set off by violet wheels. It has covered 24,000 miles; lots for a sportbike, but nothing to be afraid of if it was well looked-after. The bodywork wears a scuff or two, but is overall in really nice condition.

From the eBay listing:

For sale is a very nice condition 1996 Kawasaki ZX7R Ninja. Very hard to find in this condition with ONLY 24K miles…that’s only 1,000 miles a year !!! Only the 1996 had the purple rear end and wheels which are highly sought after in stock colors!! This bike runs excellent. It has Yoshimura exhaust that shines like new. Also authentic ASV levers and if you know bikes you know these levers are NOT cheap !!! The bike will come with a New Hampshire certified VIN verification registered by a authorized dealer representative on official NH state VIN verification forms. If needed, I will get it registered if you are from a state that will only accept prior registration (NH does not title bikes past year 1999.)

This would be a great bike to catch the waning days of the season on, or to save for Indian summer winters we have been having lately. Or you could use the time between now and longer days to sort what needs sorting for a really good rider next year.

Import Eligible: 1988 Honda CBR400RR

We have seen our fair share of VFR400Rs and lightweight, two-stroke screamers on home soil this year, but Honda’s pint-sized inline-four sportbikes have stayed fairly scarce, except for a few examples here and there. The other side of the pond is another story, where the rev-happy “training” bikes can be had for a song.

1988 Honda CBR400RR for sale on eBay

This 1988 Honda CBR400RR wears Honda’s striking black-and-orange livery from the period, the seller says he has been restoring the bike over the last three years. The fairings have been polished, and they apparently are supplemented with a replacement set. No word on the originality of either.

The vendor claims that the frame, suspension and engine have been rebuilt over his time with the bike, though it has not been ridden. It needs a choke cable, and some carb fiddling to be 100 percent.

From the eBay listing:

The Buy-It-Now is set at £1,400, or about $1,835 at today’s exchange rate. It could be a decent pickup for a fun backroad bomber for our readers in Britain, or a decent option for import for U.S. buyers, though import, duties and titling the bike will eat any savings on the purchase end PDQ.
