For you large two stroke fans we have a 1985 Yamaha RZ500 located, titled, and registered in Encinitas, California. This completely original example shows 22,000 miles but looks to be in great condition. The seller claims that the motor has never been apart, so it may need a careful eye but should be a good runner long into the future–something you can safely ride without worrying about diminishing the value. To mark our 100th post, we have available in Cumming, Georgia a very nice example of a 1992 Honda NSR250SP MC21, Rothman’s Edition. This bike has recently (two-hundred miles ago) been gone through with, as the seller states, “New Crank, Seals, Pistons, Rings and all necessary gaskets. Carbs were cleaned and jetted properly.” The seller also states about the bikes originality as: “90% original except: Aftermarket exhaust chambers and tips, HRC reed stuffers, Carbon fiber reeds, HRC Delimiter.” and in regards to overall condition, a “…9.5 out of 10.” The one fly in the ointment as always for these bikes is the title, and this one suffers from only having a bill-of-sale. Selling with only a bill-of-sale, this bike needs someone who, doesn’t care, or can get it titled and registered. In pristine condition it sounds like a great deal at the asking price of $7000, but obviously at that price I’d like to get a title too. See the Craigslist ad here.

Available in Seattle, Washington is the precursor to the NSR250, the NS250R. From an astute reader, Terry C., we have learned that “This is an NS250R, the precursor to the NSR. The MVX 250F was the precursor to this bike…The MVX is a V3 with cast iron barrels and the NS 250R is Honda’s first V-twin, but is totally different than the NSR engine.” The bike is titled and registered in Washington. Now if you saw our last post for a pristine RS125, but wanted something you could seriously ride for track days or race, we have a perfect example in Alpharetta, Georgia. This Honda RS125 is the perfect example of a serious race bike: not the prettiest thing, but gets the job done. Located in Augusta, Georgia is a beautiful example of a Honda RS125. This 125 series is what many fledgling GP stars, GP hopefuls, and weekend warriors enjoy because of it’s focus on bike control over brute power. This example has been nicely restored and presents well. The description of pearl paints and polished pieces would normally be off putting but this RS125 looks incredible. The seller claims the bike has been a home art piece (with pictures to prove it) since 2006 and it is very believable. If you were actually wanting to run this bike (which I hope you would) for track days–or race it– it would need a going over and possible tune up, but would be one of the best examples once done. Locate in West Los Angeles, California is an untitled 1995 Honda NSR250. MC28’s are very cool, with their single sided swing arm; however, they are also have less horsepower and more weight that their earlier counterparts and use the ignition card system. This example only claims to have 8,000km (4,970mi), but alas, the owner doesn’t have a title–and I assume therefore it isn’t registered either. The owner is asking $10,000. I’m not sure if it’s the California market or simply being unrealistic, but that seems quite high for an unregistered/untitled NSR250. If the bike were registered and titled in California it probably wouldn’t be too far from $10k. If you feel that is a good price, however, see the Craigslist ad here.
If you are in the market for a NSR250 and located in the Midwest or willing to ship, I would certainly follow up on an ad posted on the Madison, Wisconsin Craigslist. The seller claims that they have a titled and registered 1988 NSR250 MC18 located in Portage, Wisconsin. The ad states:
Real nice, clean 1988 NSR MC18 with current plate and title in my name. Runs and looks excellent. Too many extras to list! Must see! Dyno tuned and shows 61hp. Super fun, super quick and handles like nothing else. I’m selling because I have neck problems and can’t ride sport bikes comfortably any longer. Pretty firm on price but might consider trading up or down for a newer dual sport or super moto.

Were you unable to purchase a RZ350 new in ’84 or ’85? Here is your second chance: Located in Danville, California is a 1985 Yamaha RZ350 with nine original miles. The description seems to be pulled from Wikipedia, however, if the nine original miles are true and this bike is in showroom condition it should sell itself. The asking price is about double what an average RZ350 would go for–but again, this is a nine mile bike. Available in Glendale, California is a 1976 Yamaha RD400 built as a Kenny Roberts replica. Claimed to be fitted with (possibly rare and very valuable) Moto Carrera goodies this RD400 has been transformed into a street legal race replica. This bike would be a very fun, and fast, weekend toy.
