1997 Ducati 916 with only 183 miles from Private Collection

Please join me in welcoming Doug as our latest author at Rare SportBikes For Sale. As you may have noticed, Doug has submitted numerous bikes for us to post here and I finally realized he should really be a regular author with that eye! Doug has been riding since he was a boy, and in addition to having owned a number of great motorcycles over the years, he also has experience campaigning an FZR400 in WERA. Welcome aboard Doug! -dc

WOW! is all I can say…..

14 year old factory tires183 miles!1997 916 for saleOhlins

This is one super nice, low mileage Ducati for sale, from a private collection, right now on

The owner states: There are NO deviations from original on this 916. The powerful liquid-cooled V-twin is untouched. It is 100% stock and ‘as-delivered’ from the factory.

In my opinion, this is the one that put Ducati on the map.  They were good before, but this model made them great!  This one even comes with the original tires!  This is one of those bikes that I would love to have, but would be afraid to ride and decrease the value.  My guess is as good as yours as to what this bike will sell for, but it will make a great addition to any stable.

3 Bimotas For Sale Right Now, Each Under $10k!

Here are some rare modern classics for sale on eBay for under $10k each. Let the Italian goodness begin:

Bimota YB5 For Sale

quote from seller’s eBay listing:

This lightweight cycle (from 208 units made in 1987) comprises classic Bimota tri-color design, Yamaha FJ1200 engine, robust 41.7 mm Marzocchi M1R forks, and Brembo (good enough for the Dr. Rossi) brakes, and lightweight Technomagnesio wheels, all in near perfect condition.

[…]

Here are some interesting facts about this motorcycle’s history:

1. Purchased from Nick Ienatsch, famous motorcycle journalist, racer and teacher at the Freddie Spencer Riding School.
2. This YB5 was owned by Nick’s father.
3. Includes original vinyl folder, including owner’s manual and warranty and service booklets. Also includes official workshop manual (two copies).
4. Purchased around May or June 2001
5. Excerpt from Bimota book regarding YB5 is enclosed.
6. This bike has been kept in push button, start up condition: the carbs are clean and the steel gas tank has had a properly applied rust proof treatment.

Bimota YB11 For Sale

quote from seller’s listing:

I purchased this from the original owner 4 yeas ago with 1900 miles. The previous owner took very good care of it and also replaced the tires with new Metzeler Rennsports at the time of sale. It has an upgraded Euro headlight and upgraded Ohlins rear suspension.

I have taken meticulous care of this machine. It is in mint condition, always garaged, covered and properly maintained. I actually change all the hydraulic fluids after each ride. I just performed a complete tune up with Amsoil synthetic fluids and a new OEM battery.

The paint work is all original, never dropped, scratched or touched up. The black portion of the lowers have been perfectly refinished due to lifting of the logo type decal.

I am including the OEM workshop manual with electrical wiring diagram as well as the parts microfiche and sales brochure. I have the passengers seat and rear foot pegs that are unused as well as 1 unused spare key. All the documents and paper trail from the original owner are also included.

Bimota SB6 For Sale

quote from the eBay listing:

One of only 700+ red, white and carbon SB6’s

Only flaw is touch up paint on chin of fairing and paint chips near kick stand (see photos)

From a later run of bikes with upgraded controls, rear sets, wheels, dash, gauges, strengthened body work, and exhaust system.

Vehicle Description

* GSXR 1100 water/oil-cooled
* All carbon fiber body, dashboard, fenders
* New battery
* Clean carbs
* Runs well
* Owner’s manual
* Marchesini wheels
* Massive beam frame
* Complete Brembo brake system – 320mm front disc
* Paioli carbon fiber front forks – Ohlins rear shock
* Original 4 into 2 into 1 into 2 undertail exhaust

All three are super delicious, but I think I’m most turned on by the YB11 with the super low miles and Yamaha Thunderace engine. Not that I could handle a monster like that, but it’d sure look great in my living room!

Thanks again to Doug for his spotting help!

1989 Yamaha FZR1000 with Only 3700 Miles!!

Doug tipped us off to another great find, a super low miles and original FZR1000! Check out this

1989 FZR1000 For Sale Low Miles1989 FZR1000 For Sale Low Miles1989 FZR1000 For Sale Low Miles1989 FZR1000 For Sale Low Miles

quote from seller’s eBay listing:

Up for bids is a 1989 FZR 1000. I ‘m the second owner of the bike and it has never been wrecked or ridden in the rain. The bike is completely original except for the rear tire. There are minor nicks and scratches on the bike but they are not that noticeable. There is a small scratch on the rear swingarm behind the pipe that was caused by sticking a slip on test pipe on. The test pipe turned and allowed it to contact the swingarm. The bike is ready for a rider or a new place to be stored. My asking price for the bike is $4000.00 obo.

Doug’s email was prefaced by, “Not sure if this meets your criteria but…” My response: Hell yes it meets my criteria! These aren’t that common anymore, and certainly not in this condition. And at just over $1 per mile, I think it’s a fantastic buy!

Thanks again Doug for a great submission!

Suzuki GSX Katana For Sale: Only 3000 Miles, Barely Broken In!

The last time a champagne colored GSX750 Katana came up for sale I immediately thought of Paul’s old bike. While the image with this eBay listing of course also made me fondly recall that bike, this particular one only has 3000 miles on it!

It doesn’t look like the bids are going to break the reserve. Too bad, I wonder what the owner wants for a nearly new Katana?

Less than 4 tanks of gas have gone through this bike, with fluids changed regularly even when not in use.
Unbelievably fast.

I don’t know about you guys, but if I walked into the dealer today and saw this brand new bike in the showroom for $5400, I would buy it! This is a bargain, especially since the cheapest model you can buy today will probably set you back nearly $9k!

Good luck with the sale Andrew!

Please, no stupid questions, or anyone other than a serious buyer who is a serious motorcyclist. If you do not know what this is, or how to ride it, I cannot sell it to you.

Pictures attached are the real deal.

$16,000.00 No offers, please.

This bike looks incredible, but the only problem is the asking price. It’s $16k! It does have very low miles and a title, but this is an outrageous premium considering the market and other examples of the Lucky Strike replica’s that we’ve posted on this blog.

1997 Ducati 900 SS/SP Supersport: Only 400 Miles!

Here’s a hot auction on eBayMotors for a 1997 Ducati 900 SS/SP with only 400 miles! With only 4 bids, it’s already showing $8100. Take a look:

quote from seller’s eBayMotors listing:

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity! The 900 Supersport SP listed is #42 out of 100 made and is possibly the nicest Supersport SP in existence on the planet with 401 actual miles on the odometer. The original owner bought it to be part of his collection and after a few years it was purchased by the owner/principal of one of the largest Ducati Dealers in the world to add to his personal collection. His over-the-top personality meant that he couldn’t leave the bike as a stock 900 Supersport SP – it had to be the best SP in the world. Here are some of the things he did:

STM Evo Slipper Clutch $3250, Clutch Plate Kit $600; STM Slave Cylinder Kit $245; Michelin Pilot Sport Tires $318; Ohlins Fork Kit with Sleeves $2715; Ohlins Shock Kit $795; Ohlins Steering Damper Kit $595; Multi Adjust Rearset System $550; Front Magnesium Wheel $1795; Rear Magnesium Wheel $1575; Headwork & Flow $1395; Miscellaneous Parts (Instrument cover, brake fluid tank mounting kit, Radial clutch pump, clutch fluid tank separate mount kit, Race braking system with brake calipers, kevlar front & rear brake lines kit, clutch tube kevlar braided, set of timing belt covers, lightweight Z14 sprocket, Racing slotted clutch cover, carbon fiber front mud guard, Left & right handle bars ST4S) $3037. 85 hours labor @ a shop rate of $100/hour.

I’m actually a bit surprised this auction is already at $8100 in this volatile economy. Even more so that $8100 is reserve not met! Seems like toys are being listed a solid 20% lower than usual, but not today!

1993 Ducati Superbike 888 SPO: So Are These Rare or Not?

Of course I’m joking, but with two listed already on this blog alone since July, I’m surprised that this rare model has surfaced as much as it has. Take a look at this Ducati 888 SPO for sale on eBaymotors:

quote from seller’s eBay listing:

This is a beautiful, classic machine, carefully kept to look and run well. Even now people ask if it is new. 10726 miles.

There are several 851/888 types out there; this SPO is Ducati’s flagship US superbike road model for 1993; a few hundred were made. Liquid-cooled, fuel injected, “desmoquattro” with a Showa front fork and Ohlins rear shock. Mono seat with lightweight fiberglass tail section with “Campione Del Mondo Superbike” graphics and a big number “1”.

All major service performed by Renaissance Motorcycles in Tucson. The bike was originally sold new at Renaissance. I am the third owner and also bought it there in 1998. This bike has seen a few track days but I have never raced it.

Modifications:

* Aftermarket carbon pipes and ECU chip installed by previous owner. These make the sweet thunder you expect. Original factory pipes will be included.
* Aftermarket voltage regulator keeps the battery charged much better than the original factory part.
* Rear fender/license plate hanger modified for a cleaner look. I have a spare unused original rear fender which will be included.
* Kevlar brake lines.
* K&N air filter.

Condition:

* Always garaged.
* Oil/filter and coolant just changed.
* Airbox and intake unmodified.
* Battery replaced earlier this year. I keep the bike on a Battery Tender.
* Cam belts are due for replacement.
* Tires are Michelin Pilot Sports with low miles but several years old.
* Current Arizona registration (passes emissions test).
* Paint etc. very nice but not concours ready.
* No crashes or engine blowups; this bike is still largely as originally built in Borgo Panigale.

I was first alerted of this sale because I subscribe to the Ducati-851-888 Yahoo Group. These guys not only know of all the 888’s on the market, they also know 851 and 888 Superbikes inside and out. A must join if you’re of the faithful.

Recently the group has suggested that the market is a bit softer and good deals can be had between $7-9k. What do you think a solid, documented, and low miles 888 SPO is worth? Leave a comment and share your experience!

Update 10.9.08 – Auction ended with reserve met at $6900. Congrats to the new owner on what looks like a fantastic buy!
