Featured Listing: 1987 Kawasaki 750R Ninja

Update 10.20.2021: This bike has SOLD! Congratulations to buyer and seller! -dc

Location: Whitman, Massachusetts
Price: $5,500 $4,700 or best offer
Mileage: 19,100

Up for your consideration is a very well preserved 1987 Kawasaki 750R Ninja in a rarely seen Red and White color scheme.

In 1987, the 750R was crowned “The Best 750 of the Year!” That’s a pretty strong statement when you consider the other models it was up against. The middleweight Ninja offered a very nice balance between sport and sport-touring with it’s lower foot rests, plush seat and it’s comfier than most clip-on location on top of the triple clamp.

The 750R power plant was all new for 1987 and put out 106 horsepower at the crank and 85 at the rear wheel. I owned this exact model in 1989 and I can attest that it is a very capable machine for spirited sprints or all day two-up riding.

From the Seller:
1987 Kawasaki Ninja 750R rare Red and White color. The carburetors were gone through less than 100 miles ago. It sports a set of new Bridgestones with less than 100 miles on them, new spark plugs, air filter, fresh oil change less than 100 miles ago and brand new Zero Gravity windscreen. The original windscreen is included in the sale. I have some parts to go with the bike plus a factory owners and service manual. Also included is a period correct Vance and Hines 4-1 exhaust

As you know, most 34 year old motorcycles have been chopped up and sport truck cab lights for turn signals, but not this one. This one managed to escape the hacksaw and to maintain it’s rear fender and original directional blinkers.

If you’re into collecting 80’s sport bikes or need to add the first 750 Ninja to your H, J, K, L, M, N and P collection, you might want to give this one a look. This one averaged only 560 miles a year! I’d say the owners of this low mileage machine left a lot of fun on the table and a lot of life in this one.

See if you can park this one in your collection.

Cheers!

1998 Yamaha YZF R1 For Sale!

1998 Yamaha YZF R1 For Sale on eBay!

Yup, it’s 1998 and I’m itching to “upgrade” my F3 because, you know, I “need” a bigger bike. I have a choice to make- ZX-9R or R1? Sport Rider magazines, Kent Kunitsugu, says the ZX-9R is the first sub 10 second 1/4 mile production motorcycle. Woo Hoo! screamed the Kawasaki fan boy.
Yup, you guessed it, I succumbed to the BIGGER, BETTER, FASTER marketing machine and purchased the ZX-9R  #Merica

The YZF-R1 burst on to the scene with a massive HP to weight ratio, good looks and razor sharp handling. Yamaha engineers also gave it enough pointy styling to be relevant 23 years down the road – which might be more impressive than the 150hp under the hood . . . er . . . gas tank.

Let’s have a peek at what could have been mine . . .

Looking back, I think I would have been happier with the R1 and seeing this one brings back all of those missed “what if” memories. I still think the red and white 98′ R1’s are one of my favorite looking bikes of all time only being eclipsed by the R7.

Seeing a (basically) all stock 1998 R1 in great condition has this one tugging at me. Thank goodness my old rickety ass can’t handle the sport bike riding position anymore or I’d have to pinch open my old skool squeeze change holder and buy the wife a new pair of shoes for this one.

From the seller
1998 Yamaha R1 – Used

Rare and highly desirable red and white color combination
-17,598 Miles
-Lockhart Phillips tinted windscreen.
-Aftermarket tail tidy.
-Michelin Pilot Power tires that have 98% tread left.
-Almost unnoticeable ding in the right top rear of the gas tank
-Small scratch on right side of tank below the word “Yamaha”.
-Small chip in paint on the right lower side of the gas tank.
-Small chip in the top center of the gas tank.
-Rear passenger seat has been recovered and front corners are sewn.

-This gorgeous 1998 Yamaha R1 runs and rides fantastic and is perfect for any collection.

Okay, I have a confession: I had no idea having your corners of your passenger seat “sewn” was a thing and worth mentioning in a for sale ad. Anyone else? Beuller? Beuller? Beuller?

Moving on from my lesson of the day- The seller has supplied some very nice photos for your review and a start up/throttle blip video for your viewing pleasure.

There you have it! A pristine, stock 1998 Yamaha R1 in the most sought after color scheme. The seller has it at $8750 BIN over on the auction site. I don’t think that is too bad all things considered.

Let us know where you stand on these.

Cheers!

1985 Suzuki GSX-R 750

1985 Suzuki GSX-R For Sale on eBay!

$15,550 is the BIN price for what cost right at $4,500 36 years ago . . . ?
Not the best ROI, but not too shabby for a Japanese sport bike either!

Well, what do you think? It looks pretty amazing in my humble opinion. I think the biggest surprise to me is it’s survived 36 years without being modified.

From the seller:
Here is a first year GSX-R 750. The bike that started it all 36 years ago. It was imported a few years ago from Canada. 100% bone stock. All bodywork is original. No cracks. No hairline cracks. No scratches. Original windscreen/turn signals/air box/exhaust/flatslide carburetors. Come with the original rear seat/toolkit/owner’s manual. It had a repaint a few years ago with RDdecals. Bike runs/idles/shifts great. No leaks. No smoke. All electrical works as it should. New tires. New starter. Fresh motul oil. Suzuki oil filter. NKG spark plugs. New stock air filter. New float needle valve assembly. Carbs gone through/cleaned and adjusted. 25,092 km 15,591 miles

These bikes are hard to come by and only increasing in value. Comes with a clean California title. Currently registered. I have additional photos. I also have a video of the bike running. The pictures do it no justice. A beautiful bike in person. An awesome bike to rip on or stored in a collection.

Traditionally, I think folks frown on sport bikes being re-sprayed, but just like in the collector car world, the older a machine is the more receptive we’ll have to become to re-sprays. I’ve spent the better part of my morning viewing photos of this machine side-by-side with official Suzuki photos and I can’t see a difference. I know RDDecals.com does a great job, but being completely transparent- I’ve never compared photo’s of their work side by side with intent. *From the photos- the decals look perfect to me. I don’t dare comment on the respray colors/tints/shades because I know every computer monitor is different.

Based on the sellers description and how well this one looks in the photos, I’m thinking this one might be one for the showroom, but I also think this one would fit right in at your local bike night or weekend show. Wouldn’t it be a hoot to ride this 100hp, flat-slide carbed, 18″ wheeled antique side by side with a modern day 150hp, FI, 17″ hooped machine? 🙂

The seller has supplied many hi-res photos and even offers a video should you want to make contact and request it. They’ve listed their phone number over on the auction site. You can make contact here-. I watched the video and I will say it made me smile hearing it come to life.

Cheers!

1992 Honda NSR250 SP Rothmans For Sale

1992 Honda NSR 250SP Rothmans For Sale on eBay!

Excuse me sir . . . I’m interested in your JDM only Honda NSR 250SP Rothmans Racer Replica, but only if it has a rarer than Hens Teeth, Rocking Horse Poop, Unicorns, Fairy’s and the Pot of Gold at the end of the Rainbow, NOS, Honda Rothmanss upper fairing to go with the sale. What’s that? I’m in luck because you do have a rarer than Hens Teeth, Rocking Horse Poop, Unicorns, Fairy’s and the Pot of Gold at the end of the Rainbow, NOS, Honda Rothmans upper fairing to go with the sale!
GTFOOH!

And there you have it- My work is done here and you all know what to do from here. What are you waiting for? Call this guy up and ask, beg, borrow or bribe your way in to his black book of contacts and ask him “Where in the hell did you find a NOS, 1 of 1500, 25 year old upper fairing?” No really, this might be the most important question 🙂

We all know about the adjustable suspension, dry clutch, MagTek’s, Racer Boy graphics and terribly uncomfortable seats that our beloved NSR’s offer, but have you ever seen a NOS upper fairing? Much less a NOS Rothmans upper fairing?

But, there’s more . . .
This NSR is a bit of a project in that it runs, but doesn’t idle very well, looks good from 15′ away and (IMHO) needs a lot of work for the $16,750 asking price.

But wait, there’s more . . .
The seller is very upfront about the work he’s done on the bike and he’s also very upfront about what he thinks it needs. He was even gracious enough to make us a video detailing the pros and cons of his little jewel.

From the sellers eBay ad:

1992 Honda NSR250SP Sports Production Rothmans, dry clutch, adjustable suspension, Magtek wheels, clear Florida title. Very nice original condition with minor age marks, oxidation and tiny pits on aluminum here and there. Runs good but will need further tuning and engine upgrades for serious riding. Carbs were rebuilt, has new chain slide, all lights work, horn works, temp works, etc. Also has brand new factory correct petcock or fuel tap. It appears the fuel cap was replaced and may not be Honda and it has a different key for the fuel tank. Will need tires, possible chain and sprockets. Front cowl has missing ear at left mirror that can be repaired. According to the VIN, this is the 2nd to last one ever built in 1992, it is 1499 out of 1500. Comes with other body parts including very rare New old stock never installed Rothmans front cowling, new aftermarket Chinese front cowl with cracked but glued ear, new aftermarket windscreen.

Let’s get this discussion started and tell us your thoughts. Maybe Stevie from Speedwerks will chime in here and let us know what it’s gonna take to bring this one back to 100%

1994 Honda CBR1000F w/ only 4627 miles For Sale!

1994 Honda CBR 1000 For Sale on eBay!

Due to the release of the CBR 900rr, these were a distant memory in 94′. But, looking at them 27 years later I’d say they’ve aged better than most and definitely better than me. If only I could have maintained my weight and youthful looks from 94′ . . . (sigh)

These were the Honda Accord of the Honda motorcycle world whereas they didn’t do anything overly well, but would do enough to keep you satisfied.
Did I just misspell bored?

These tipped the scale at a hefty 518# and sent 135hp through a rock solid 6 speed gear box. The softer suspension and more relaxed riding position combined for a great sport touring experience back in the day and I’m sure they’d hold their own just fine in today’s world too.

At the time of writing the price sits at $5,500 and there’s no reserve in sight so, it will sell.

Here’s what the seller has to say about it-

Absolutely pristine Honda CBR 1000F Hurricane, the bike is museum quality, zero scratches or scuffs in the plastics. Runs, rides, and shifts like a brand new bike. See pictures.

This one is definitely clean and well preserved. But, perhaps the best thing about this one is it comes with FREE Chicken Strips!

I jest, I jest . . .

1993 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale!

1993 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale on eBay!

Coming in on the heels of Mikes French Drama Lama 888 SP5/Strada is this Merica 888 SPO. This Ducati is certain to please WhyzeeF and Luke because this one lacks a LE number plate on the triple, but . . . it does have that pesky No 1 tail plate . . . Hmmmm. Oh! I know, that’s because Ducati won the WSB championship in 1992. They followed 92’s championship season up by winning both the WSBK and AMA Championships in 93′ with the 888. So, this number plate actually means something! 🙂

From the seller-

In case you are not aware 888SPO was sold only in the US market. The SPO was a combination of the high performance SP5 and the European- specification Strada. Apart from a different EPROM, the engine of the SPO was identical to the Starda. The SPO shared more with the SP5 when it came to the chassis. There were only 170 produced for the 1993 model year with another 120 equipped to meet California emissions. This is not a California example. There were another 100 released for 1994 with only a few cosmetic differences including a production number plate on the triple clamp.

This SPO presents well and for a good reason- It’s averaged around 400 miles a year since it crossed the pond. As the seller mentions, there were around 390 of these imported in 93′ and 94′. Not super low numbers by Italian manufacturers standards, but low enough to make them sought after and highly collectable. These have been slowly creeping up in price over the years and this one seems to be leading the way and pushing the envelope with a BIN price of $18,500. If you’re interested in this one and want to compare pricing or condition you can search our archives and gain a lot of insight on these.

Check out this SPO here!

Ciao!

1986 Suzuki GSX-R 1100 for sale on CL

I have owned it for several years and it starts, runs, idles, rides and stops well.
It wears the uncommon Union Jack livery and it is good cosmetic and mechanical shape. It is largely original with the following minor exceptions, VH pipe, filter pods, windshield, bar ends and fuel tank breather hose. It does not leak oil or anything else.

500#’s of 1986 in your face!
130hp, 5 speeds and 18″ shoes at both ends of this period correct GSX-R 1100. You don’t see these floating around too often- This one averaged 800 miles per year and wears 35 pretty darn well.

1986 VFR 700 with spares For Sale on CL

Comes with original wheels, box of new parts (previous owner went into a Honda shop that was closing and bought out their vfr inventory of parts)

This VFR has only covered 24,000 miles or 685 miles per year over it’s life and it presents very well. Honda’s Red, White and Blue paint has always been my favorite VFR offering. This one won’t last long priced at $4,500.

1995 Yamaha FZR600 with only 4,950 miles for sale on CL!

A perfect OEM 1994 Yamaha FZR600 for sale. BONE STOCK! No pipes, no carb kit, nothing aftermarket. The condition of this bike is almost perfect.

I know some of you won’t believe me when I say this, but . . . This one is a bit LOUD even for me! There’s no denying it’s in great shape, all original and super low miles for a 26 year old machine. I’m not sure on the $5,250 price tag though- What are your thoughts?

2014 Aprilia RSVR RF #143 of 200 for sale on CL

#143 came stock wtih Ohilns, Brembo, traction and wheelie control to help keep this 200hp rocket under control. This one is priced at $15,995 and has covered 3,300 miles. I’m down with this one- #ApeNation

1995 Yamaha GTS1000 with only 6,000 miles!

Super low miles on this GTS! These were heavily marketed as long distance sport touring machines, but apparently, this one didn’t get the message. There’s no price listed in the ad which leads me to believe it must be really cheap  If you call on this one please let us know the price.

1989 Honda GB500 Cafe Racer for sale on CL

First year of the highly collectible Honda GB500. This beautiful and rare bike was purchased from the original owner and has 5000 original miles on it.

I know- “Another Cafe Racer!”
I thought it was pretty cool and I have the keys to my posts 🙂

2002 Suzuki GSX-R 600 Telefonica Repli Racer for sale on CL

This is a very rare bike, and the only downside I found to owning one of these is that it did tend to draw way too much attention whenever and wherever I parked it, so I always covered it!

Buyer beware! 🙂

1986 Suzuki RG500 Gamma for sale on CL

1986 Suzuki RG-500 “Gamma” 4 cylinder 500cc two stroke!! Street legal MOTO GP/GP 500 style bike from the 2 stroke good old days!! They only made thees bikes for 2 years 86-87 and they were NEVER imported to the US, only brought in through the gray market!! So having one here on the west cost that is legally registered here in Washington is quite RARE!! (fashioned after Barry Sheene’s GP-500 bike from the early to mid 80’s) Legally registered in the state of Washington, (now with collector plate) and was registered in Oregon. I am the second owner of this bike, it was imported from South Africa from the original owner, a South African gentlemen that now lives in Oregon. BONE STOCK with just less than 19,500 kilometers on the speed-o (12,116) Miles. This is a insane 250 lbs HTFO-Rocket!! That I just can’t seem to open up in my area of Wa. (to meany cops) So my baby just sits in a heated garage/shop. Bike has ALWAYS been in a garage, and never used in bad weather!! My loss your gain First $35,000 gets it…..!!

Why it is that whenever you blog about a rare bike it seems like 5 more pop out of nowhere? Case and point- Last weeks B-O-B’s had a low mileage RG in it and this one popped up this week. Just as the seller states- these were never imported to the states, but as any long time viewer knows, there are a few of them floating around. This one looks to be in great shape!

1987 Yamaha YSR50 For Sale!

1987 Yamaha YSR50 For Sale on eBay!

I know, I know . . . To some of you these aren’t sport bikes and should never grace our lovely pages, but to the majority of you- YOU ABSOLUTELY LOVE THESE! You may be asking yourself “How does dd know this?” Well, let me just say this isn’t my first RSBFS Rodeo and I have access to those pesky behind the scenes numbers.

Let’s check it out- shall we?

1987 ysr50 fully restored all fresh powder coating on frame new paint and stickers. Fresh top end on motor dual springs up front new swing arm bushings bike is in perfect condition and needs nothing bike has been sitting in my house after it was restored has zero miles on it since it was done clean Vermont registration in my name ready to transfer

The seller says it has a clean bill of health and is ready for a new home. I’ve zoomed (put your right foot) in and zoomed (pull your right foot) out and back (put your right foot) in and looked (all about) and the only thing that I see is the frame powder coating is too dark/grey compared to the stock silver (I had this same issue on a FZR400 rusty rear sub-frame). I do like that the seller replaced all of the stickers during the rebuild- Nice touch!

Sans the mirrors, I think it’s a tidy resto and based on the bidding activity the YSR club thinks so too. At the time of writing, there are 11 bids and if there was a reserve it has been cleared so, this one will sell.

Well? What do you all think of this one? Granted, it’s not a $15,000, zero mile time machine, but it’s purty darn nice.

Check out this YSR here-

Cheers!
