This one is a 10! 1985 Yamaha RZ350

RZ350_7

The last of the factory two strokes to be imported into the United States (and even California!), the RZ350 continues to be a fan favorite despite the relative lack of rarity. A decent RZ can be found pretty much any day of the week in the US or just across the border in Canada. The trick is finding one worth the effort; many RZs have been thrashed within an inch of their screaming two stroke lives and then hung out to dry. Today’s RZ is a little different. If you want original, this one looks like it. If you want clean and not abused, this just could be your bike. If you want low miles, this one has but TEN. Claimed to have been in a private collection, this “new” RZ is located in California and looking for a new home. To my eye it needs some vitamin D courtesy of the warm California sunshine, and plenty of exercise. A regular regiment up Malibu canyon could work. Any takers?

RZ350_1

From the seller:
One of a kind. Just came out of a private collection. Has never been in the sun for more than 20 minutes. Pristine collectors bike. Not going into tons of detail. Google brand new RZ350 and that is what you get.

RZ350_5

I definitely hear this bike whispering my name (somewhat hoarsely, as it has not had a voice in a long, long time). Unfortunately I am not feeling a lot of love from the seller. For such an unbelievable offering (nearly brand new RZ350, not restored or resto-modded) this bike deserves some great, high resolution pictures and LOTS more information. Yes, we all know about (and love!) the venerable RZ, but this feels like a half-hearted attempt. I do not fault a fortunate (or savvy) individual who is looking to score 15 large US greenbacks off of this opportunity – after all, there are nearly none of these bikes left in this type of condition – but as a lover of the breed this bike deserves better billing. At least the model year was corrected (was listed as 1987).

RZ350_3

I’m sure there is someone out there with the desire and the means to own this bike…I can only hope that if it sells it will get to run free on American highways once again. The world needs a little more ring-a-ding-ding; especially California. And using the stock exhausts with cats in the pipes you can even feel good about the noxious fumes. Take that, Prius pilot! Check out the scant details here, and let us know what you think. Would you ride it?

Bring on the smoke: 1984 Yamaha RD 500 LC in Utah

RD500LC_1

Perennial fan favorite, the RD500 LC (also known as the RZ500) is seen often on these pages. Not so often that you wouldn’t think they are rare, but RSBFS responds to what readers want to see, and you have told us that this ranks way up there on the top 10 bucket list of wanted motorcycles. This particular example looks pretty good, although it has seen its fair share of use. With nearly 17,000 miles on the clock, this bike is proof that two strokes can be more than garage queens; they can be riders too. Admittedly this one is not perfect – the bodywork leaves something to be desired and the new plastics on order may well be non-OEM NOS reproduction items. Hard to tell from the details. The pipes look pretty mean on the bike, although I would be a bit concerned with the lack of miles on the new pipes after the jetting change; there may be more work involved to get this one to a proper state of tune. All in all, this looks like a great bike for someone who wants to ride and be involved. The buy it now price is set at $13,900, but the seller is open to offers. Check out the pictures below, with more at the auction itself. Good Luck.

From the seller:
1984 Yamaha Rd 500 LC – Runs great starts in one or two kicks. Great power and Nice condition low miles. Stored in garage. Clean Utah title in my name. Has new JL Gp pipes stainless bodies and carbon fiber tips. 4 Carberators cleaned and re- jetted with over sized jets 200 main jets and 25 small jets. Less than a 4 miles on with new pipes and jets it was stack before. Comes with stock pipes. These were very heavy and I think had a catiletic converter but not sure. The new pipes are much lighter and it feels faster with the new pipes. This bike also has a new lithium light weight battery. I have ordered a new planstic kit for $1200 and it has not come yet and It does not come with it because I’m not sure if it will ever come. The original plastic is shown in the pictures. . It does have a couple small scratches on the bottom of the pipe.

Double RZV Fun: 1985 Yamaha RZV500R in Ohio

RZV500R_1

It looks like the melting snow in much of the country is uncovering rare gems that are begging to be ridden. While the last RZV we posted probably didn’t have to live indoors due to the snow, today’s bike has low-ish miles, some thoughtful mods, and enough spares to put it back into OEM condition. It looks like it was owned by an enthusiast, was well cared for, and now needs a new home. The market is certainly speaking loudly on these models, and this one in particular: bidding is up to $11k with a few days still left on the docket. Move fast if you want to step into the big boy two stroke leagues – these aluminum frame RZV (Japan market) models are the rare among the rare in RZ speak!

From the seller:
This is a 1985 Yamaha RZV500R (1GE) late 85, I have all the original parts to put it back as O.E.
The front end is a 92 FZR 600 and the rear wheel is from a YZF600. 160 17 rear 110 17 front.
The tires are new Dunlop’s, exhaust is Jollymoto w/carbon fiber cans. The engine has about
1000 km on it, went through the motor just to check it out and all it needed was re-ringed and honed
resealed the complete motor. Put it on the dyno and it put out about 95 hp it will power wheelie in
1st gear and that’s with a 38 tooth rear sprocket. It has many NOS parts on it.

Lots of pictures, text and details – and this cool video. How can you not want a bike that looks and sounds as great as this? Bidders are lining up – are you one of them? Good Luck!

Hail Canada! 1985 Yamaha RZ500

RZ500_1

Is March Madness all about RZ350s and RZ500s? It sure seems that way to me, given the number of fantastic Yamaha smokers we have seen pass through these pages recently. I hope you are not sick of these rare two stroke models, because here is another 500cc monster looking for a new home. When it rains it pours, and it is raining collectible motorcycles of the ring-a-ding-ding variety. Read on for info on this good looking RZ500.

From the seller:
1985 yamaha RZ500, 7,500 original kilometers, (4,700 miles) original tires, some small blemishes.scratches, minor dimple in blue on rt frnt of tank, dent on rt muffler, fluids replaced, petcock rebuilt, carbs needle & seats, very clean bike, still has the guard on the front of the belly pan, see the pics ask questions, thanks
the bike is in B.C. Canada 1/2 hour from the Sumas WA border and one hour from the port of Vancouver

RZ500_6

Because these big RZs were never officially imported into the United States, the majority of them have come from north of the border. In the case of this bike, it is located on the west coast of Canada, near the State of Washington. Unlike other RZs that already live in the States, the buyer of this machine will need to properly import it before attempting to register it in any US state. Californians likely need not apply – unless you know something or someone the rest of us don’t. Bidding is up to $8,000 USD with reserve still in place. Check it out here.

Good luck!

Previously sold at $10k, this one is back due to a non-paying bidder. Bid to win! Links updated. -dc

RZ350_1

Always a fan favorite, a clean RZ usually sells itself. Interest is always high and prices are definitely on the rise. This is a classic machine, a legal two stroke in the US, and continues to be a unique ride despite its age. This bike shows only 534 miles on the odometer, some rash from use over the years, and is looking for a new home.

RZ350_21

From the seller:
1984 Yamaha RZ350 Kenny Roberts Edition with 534 ORIGINAL miles !!!!

Look at the pictures closely and you will notice on the Fender, Tank, and Upper Front Fairing there are very minor blemishes other than that this thing is a crème puff head turner, Even Kenny would approve.

Ok boys here’s the deal…it was kept garaged all of its life and starts on Second Kick Cold. Ridden occasionally to keep fluids fresh. Brakes are a little sticky but nothing that cant be remedied by a little service, no leaks. Engine looks really good. Aftermarket Exhaust by AllSpeed Hyperformance I do not have the originals.

Check the pictures they speak for themselves for a 29 year old collectors bike.

RZ350_5

This looks to be a pretty honest bike. It has some blems (some considerably more than minor) but overall is what you would expect from a 30 year old used bike. So what’s the catch? How about an opening bid of $9,999?! We see perfect (or nearly so) RZs top this amount, but this auction is starting out on the high side – and is likely scaring bidders off. Is this a fishing expedition on the part of the seller? Possibly. Check it out here and let us know what you think. Good Luck!

It is not often you come across a one owner bike pushing 30 years of age. That is loyalty my friends. And it is equally rare to come across a wonderful gray-market two stroke like an RZ500 with clean CA title.

1984 Yamaha RZ500 in California for sale on eBay

RZ500_7

This bike is ticking all of the right boxes. It is a great model to own. This bike has been in the same hands for longer than some readers have been alive, much less riding. And it appears to be very, very sano. Clean bikes show well. Bikes that show well generally sell well. And interest in this auction is proving that point. The seller has provide a ton of detail and some great pictures.

RZ500_11

From the seller:
This is the one you’ve been waiting for, a bike with a very unique history. I have been the sole owner for the last 29 years so there are no unknowns here. Here it is:

All fuel and coolant hoses, fuel filter and fuel cock assembly replaced. Lots of stainless steel hardware. Front forks rebuilt by Racetech, rear shock new by Penske with a one of a kind aerospace manufactured expansion chamber bracket. New MetalGear brake discs with sintered brake pads and Probrake lines, front and rear. New front brake master cylinder. Brand new drive chain. Body and faring are custom painted to match original design with ultra smooth clear coat applied as well. Many of them new. Brand new OEM Seat, Blinkers, Mirrors, Tail light, and Wind Screen. New OEM left and right handlebar switch clusters, grips and levers. New super lightweight Shorai lithium battery. New factory tool kit. Both wheels were professionally widened over stock with all new bearings and seals. Front to 3.5″ wide and rear to 4.5″ to accept newer generation tires for outstanding cornering. Best of all this bike runs and handles fantastic with all the right improvements to make it superior to the original. Last but not least, this bike has a current California title that can be yours. This is not easy to get.

Also in the deal all OEM one set of gold colored wheels ,brake discs and one rear fender uncut. This bike is really ready for another twenty plus years!

RZ500_10

How about a video of the bike in question? All you need to do is ask, my friends!

This auction has only a short amount of time left. The bike is based in California, and the current bid is only up to $9,400 with reserve still in place. We have seen good examples of this model in the $12-15k range, so this one might need a few more bumps before that reserve comes off. Check it all out here. Good luck!

Legalized Smoking: 1984 Yamaha RZ350 Kenny Roberts Edition in Utah

RZ350_2

1984 Yamaha RZ350 for sale on eBay

One of the more common – yet popular – bikes we post on this site is the Yamaha RZ350. Known as the last of the legal two strokes available in the USA – including in the smog-choked Repulic of California – the RZ has a rabid following. It is becoming a serious collector bike as well, and we are watching prices rise on moderately-used machinery, and sky-rocket on pristine and museum bikes.

RZ350_5

From the seller:
This RZ350 is the Kenny Roberts Edition with the yellow, black and white paint. The US banned two stroke street bikes after 1984 so this is one of the last legally imported two stroke bikes sold in the US. The bike is a great everyday rider. I had the top and bottom end rebuilt about 1500 miles ago so it runs great and is fast! New crank, and pistons. It has very nice dent-free aftermarket pipes, a fork stabilizer, and is ready to rip.

RZ350_4

There are some nice bits on this bike (Telefix fork brake, aftermarket expansion chambers), and some not so good bits (a fair bit of rust and remnants of Father Time). Still, it looks to be a workable example that is deserving of some love. This bike is being offered with a reasonable opening ask of $3,495 and a BIN of $4,600 for those who need their instant gratification right now. Click the link to check out all of the details on this legal little smoker. Good Luck!
