Reader Submission: Aprilia RS250 Chesterfield!

Ian and John sent me emails within minutes of each other leading me to this post. It’s an Aprilia RS250 Chesterfield replica in Tampa, Florida (Craigslist):

A RSBFS favorite, the RS250 in Max Biaggi regalia is one of the most sought after. And the pictures would suggest that this example is near mint. That said, John and I are in agreement that the $13775 is quite a bit higher than market.

Sometimes there are just so many cool and rare bikes for sale out there that it’s hard to choose which ones to post. I came across a few Bayliss reps and 1098Rs, which in their own rights are rare birds, but for me the ultimate still has to be the Desmosedici. Vyrus 984 C3 2V (i.e. Bimota Tesi 2D) for sale in Switzerland

Just read Dan’s post about the RSBFS meet up in Seattle – now, I’m REALLY envious. Should be a blast, so you guys have fun (and post lots of pics please)!

Right now I’m sitting in a cheap hotel room in Taiwan, but of course that doesn’t stop me from bringing you rare and tasty bikes for sale around the world.  So what did I find?  A :

Seller’s description (Google translated from German):

Vyrus further developed the Bimota Tesi 1D and then put this bike before the public on various trade fairs under the name 984 C3 2V. As for powering the air-cooled, 84 hp is payable Ducati V2 engine at 992 cc. Additional services will be mobilized through the Ram Air system, with increasing speed. The bike itself does, according Vyrus 154 kg on the scales. The rear wheel suspension is made of an aluminum swingarm and the front wheel is guided by the motorcycle in a very unusual way, the axle steering. This wheel location was found even at the Bimota Tesi 1D from. The suspension on the front wheel suspension taken over by air-assisted shock absorber, which is attached laterally. In the stern sits a centrally mounted air-assisted shock absorber. In short: a hammer part …!!! And as far as I know it’s been delivered one of the first ten machines. The mileage is around the 5000 [km]. The bike of course is in immaculate condition.

If you think Bimota is an exclusive boutique builder, then Vyrus is even more so, offering only two hub center steered models – the 984 c3 with an air cooled Ducati 2V engine, and the 985 C3 with a water cooled Ducati 4V engine – from their small Rimini (Italy) based workshop. Coincidentally, the Bimota Tesi 2D was built by Vyrus for Bimota, so this 984 C3 is essentially a Tesi 2D but without the Bimota logo (note: the Vyrus looks different from the US version of the Tesi 2D with coil over shocks and sans flyscreen, but the Euro spec Tesi 2D looks exactly like this bike).

Like the Ghezzi-Brian posted earlier, when was the last time you’ve heard of a Vyrus up for sale?  I know it’s based all the way in Switzerland, but if you’re in the market for something like this, what’s a ticket to fly over to pick up the bike in person, ride the Alps, and sample some Swiss cheese or chocolate?  Hmm…sounds like a perfect Christmas vacation!

2003 Ghezzi-Brian Supertwin 1100

I apologize for getting this listing up so late, but there’s still another day to go for this auction, so I’ll post it up anyway. 

So, what do we have? :

Here’s what the seller has to say about this pretty cool bike:

A stunning combination of Italian design, racing heritage and vintage feel, the Ghezzi-Brian Supertwin 1100 is the ultimate modern cafe racer. Born from the racing world-the same bike, with that frame, that set up, that legendary Moto Guzzi engine has been adapted for road use and improved with the best technical innovations. Specifications include the following; Moto Guzzi 1100 V-Twin, Weber Marelli digital electronic fuel injection system, Paioli upside down front forks, Hydraulic Bitubo rear shock, hollow Marvic wheels, custom TUBI exhaust, BRAKING dual perimeter front disc brakes and BRAKING rear disc brake. The body color is actually a light metal flake and combined with the blue chassis is it absolutely wonderful. Very few of these incredible road race machines were imported into the US. The original color brochure and owner’s manual come with the bike. This machine has been on display in a large Italian motorcycle collection and would benefit from an oil change and new battery.

Ghezzi & Brian is THE Guzzi specialist – they are like AMG for Mercedes or Ruf for Porsche.  To sum it up on one word: very cool (OK, that’s two).  Ghezzi & Brian are also responsible for designing and developing the truly awesome Guzzi MGS-01 limited edition track bike, so you know they’re good.

Not sure how many of these were made, but when was the last time you’ve heard of a Ghezzi & Brian being offered up for sale?  If you’re in the market for an Italian V twin and want something different and special, this bike has your name written all over it.

Exciting Exclusive: Collection of 17 Rare, Exotic, and Low Mileage Bikes Soon to be For Sale

Update 1.8.2010: Rory has sent us an update on the remaining bikes. Please contact Rory at vtauto@sbcglobal.net for further information about the remaining bikes available for sale in the collection.

Rory and his business partner have contacted Rare Sport Bikes For Sale to alert of us of a collection of 17 bikes that will soon be for sale.

His message included the following details:

My business partner, Lee and I are trying to help his neighbor sell the bikes owned by her late husband. The 17 bikes that are left to sell are primarily sport bikes and they are all somewhat special in one way or another: Limited Editions, grey market, low (or no) mileage, etc. It’s taking some time for the widow to have the bikes re-titled in her name, but we are now getting to the point where we need to figure out how to find buyers looking for the somewhat unusual bike.

1988 Ducati 851 Homologation Tri Color with B.I.N $25,000.00

This appears to be a super rare 851. I did a quick search and there is one for sale in Australia as well, so at the time of this posting, 2 are for sale at the same time! Pretty cool eh?

This is one of the approximately 50 bikes imported into the U.S. “for racing use only”. it was titled and registered, and ridden (street only!) a bit more than 2800 miles by the original owner. The only deviations from stock are the modifications needed for street use. These include swapping the slicks for street tires, adding a mirror and turn signals (mid 60’s BMW bar end), a horn and a speedometer (digital bicycle speedo). In addition, an air filter element was fitted on top of the open airbox (in order to preserve internal organs!). The wheels were repainted (when the stock Marvic paint began to fall off!) with custom matched PPG Durathane. The brake and clutch fluids were changed 6 months ago, the oil and filter last week, and the timing belts were replaced last winter.

Vehicle Condition

The bike is in as close to new condition as can be expected for a 21 year old with 2800 miles. It has lived in a heated garage under a dust cover, and is mechanically and cosmetically excellent. There a few very minor defects consistent with it’s age and mileage, photos available on request.

I went to the Ducati site and looked in the Heritage section and it does show a bike just like this one, but doesn’t offer much information regarding a limited production kit bike. I’m sure some of our Ducati fans will set me straight and give us all of the 411 on this beauty. When produced Ducati outfitted these with Marvic wheels and racing exhaust. This one still has both and shows very well in the pictures. I am guessing this is a very desirable Ducati for any collector.

Update: Just as I suspected Mark Morrison would be able to tell us all about this super rare machine. Mark left the info as a comment, but it won’t show up for everyone to read so I thought I would edit the post to help.

Only 10 of these bikes were brought into the states in 1989. They had European VINs and were for race track use only. Street legal 851’s began to arrive in June 1990. This is a nice bike being the first model and is actually if I am correct, an 851 kit. These bikes were the homologation model with 120bhp and 17″ Marvic rims instead of 102 bhp and 16″ composite wheels. They were supplied new with slicks and a headlight and tail light but no mirrors or indicators.

Must be Bimota Friday! Bimota DB2 for sale

There hasn’t been many Bimotas up for sale recently, so I’m pretty excited to see a clean red/white DB2 come up for sale on Craigslist:

 This is a 1994 Bimota DB2 Ducati powered motorcycle. It is one of 50 made. It only has 5000 miles on it. Was just serviced, new tires, has never been wet, custom made adjustable handlebars, heated grips, stock bars and everything pictured. This bike is in SHOW CONDITION. I am asking $14000 or trade for a drag car.

Not sure where the seller got his information from, but there were a total of 408 DB2’s made.  Nevertheless, it’s still a rare bird and a desirable one at that.  However, the asking price of $14,000 is WAY optimistic – there was a DB2 from an earlier posting with expensive mods such as a 944cc big bore kit, Brembo master cylinders, Dymags…etc. with an asking price of $10,000+. 

More concerning, however, is the seller’s wish to trade for a drag car (?!) – personally I haven’t heard of many (any) serious Bimotistis who are into drag cars.  It’s the first time I’ve seen “Bimota” and “drag car” mentioned in the same sentence!  I would make a first offer of $7000 and see what the seller has to say – $6800 will get him a very nice 1972 Buick Skylark “Rocket” drag car… 😉
