2 Laverda Formula’s For Sale Right Now

I love the classic orange Laverda’s and stumbled across this first one while taking the temperature for examples currently available for sale. It’s a 1999 and according to the seller of this Laverda 750 Formula, it only has 2500 miles! Check it out on San Fran Craigslist for only $5500:

quote from seller’s Craigslist ad:

Hey collecters, here is a super rare 1999 Laverda Formula S 750 in near mint condition. Only 3900KM(2500mi). This is a stunning bike to look at. These are ultra rare as just a handfull where built and few where imported to this country. This bike has a 750cc fuel injected parallel twin, six speed, aluminum fram, fully adjustable suspension, Marchasini wheels and Brembo brakes, and carbon fiber body panels. Put this bike in your collection now. You will not find another this clean or affordable. $5500

After spotting the first one, I decided to narrow my focus to the Formula model and found another in North Carolina for $6400 (Craigslist):

quote from seller’s listing on Craigslist:

One of a kind Italian SuperSport Motorcycle – Must see to appreciate – Very Rare – 1 of 2 in N. C. Stunning black & orange paint scheme, Paoli Suspension, carbon fiber fenders, Termi exhaust with chip, 100+ horsepower, always garage kept, never dropped, 26k kilometers (15,600 miles). Well maintained by a local professional mechanic.

I once had the chance to ride one of these brand new. We were visiting my parents who live north of Indy. Naturally I made sure we stopped by the Laverda dealership and checked out the gorgeous 750 Formula. He offered me a test ride on the spot and even offered a helmet. I declined without a jacket and other gear, especially as my then girlfriend (and future wife) was giving me the big time stop sign not to leave her alone at the dealership. In retrospect I should’ve taken the heat, but hindsight is 50/50 they say. My in person reaction as a young man was that while very attractive, it was overpriced for what it was. Years later seeing these examples, I’m more curious now than I was then. Especially with these asking prices considering their rarity.

If you’re a fan of Laverda motorcycles, you have to check out the ‘the Perfect Corner’ YouTube videos. This guy is a Laverda collector enthusiast and has filmed many of his rides and adventures. Not only a must see for fans of the mark, but also one of only a couple 750 Formula videos online:

Suzuki GSX-R Blowout Post: 5 Classic Gixxer’s on eBay Right Now!

Apparently these aren’t quite as hard to find as I thought! Here are 5 great looking classic GSX-R sportbikes for sale right now on eBay:

1986 Suzkuki GSX-R 750
– This one only has 17k miles and wears the original body work that is in shockingly good condition considering this bike is 22 years old! Has a buy-it-now for $5200.

1990 Suzuki GSXR750
– Nice upgrades on this one include: Later forks, Marchesini rims, Cosworth pistons, Yoshimira exhaust and cams, Keihin carbs, and more. This sucker is loaded and the auction is about to end at just under $3k reserve not met. What a shame, although I’d be secretly thrilled if it were my bike and it hadn’t sold!!

Have experience with an old GSX-R like one of these? Leave a comment and tell us about it!

1988 Suzuki GSXR 750 Slingshot: Beautiful Survivor For Sale with Upgrades

There’s an original GSX-R Slingshot that comes out of hiding in my neighborhood once in a while. Every time I see it I’m impressed with how great this model looks. And it is so rare to see an original looking survivor. Since spotting this bike a few times, I’ve been on the prowl. These are not easy to find on the used market!

But here’s a great looking 1988 Suzuki GSX-R 750 ‘slingshot’ for sale in San Diego on Craigslist:

quote from seller’s Craigslist ad:

This bike is my baby, it is parked in my living room. I love this bike. I broke my back a few years ago on my dirt bike, it still hurts!
So it is time to sell, if you always liked the 88 GSXR, then you want this bike. It has never been downed. I’ve raced it, but never abused it. I have so much money wrapped up in this thing that I will never see, but it is okay because the time spent riding it was AMAZING. OK…Where do I start? Body and paint:PERFECT, no BS Motor out of 1991 GSXR 750. The chassis millage is 26,679 however all bearings are new. The motor & trani have 1,642 miles on them I broke it in at 5500 RPM for 500 miles. Weisco 7R7 Piston Kit. New bearings and gaskets. Pocket port work on head. Stock cams. Transmission: was sent out of state for gears to be under-cut and shimmed by R&D! “you can shift with your pinky toe” Forks off 1992 GSXR 750 “Inverted”. LG Valving Kit. Braided brake lines. Mikuni Flatslide carbs with Stage 3 Jetting just rebuilt 6/6/08. Yoshimura exhaust. OVER $7,000.00 in parts and labor

Any guy who stores the bike he loves in the house is okay by me! He’s asking $5k which demonstrates just how rare a clean example has become.

1989 Yamaha FZR OW-01 For Sale in France

I know it’s not exactly in the neighborhood, but these just don’t come up for sale anywhere that often. And this one looks perfect, though it bloody well should be at $22k!

1989 Yamaha FZR OW01 For Sale

quote from seller’s website, classic-motorbikes.com:

This rare Yamaha 750 FZR OW 01, is a real collectors item. With only 4002 km and in exceptional original condition. First registered in France on the 15/06/1989 where it’s still registered and has had just two owners.

This French model bike also has the complete “Full Power” kit (145 hp) fitted. The as new racing exhaust is available with the bike as are the original tool kit and owner’s manual. Available in France.

I saw one of these for sale in person years ago in Portland at Bob Lamphere’s place. At the time I recall thinking the asking of nearly $12k was outrageous. Not so much now…

Welcome to Rare SportBikes For Sale! I will be posting new entries here rather than at the old site from now on. Please consider subscribing here now that the site has moved. Thanks for reading!
