1999 Yamaha R7 0W-02
Location: Norwalk, CT
Mileage: Race Bike
Price: $10,000 on ebay with reserve firmly in place
The R7 needs no introduction on RSBFS or in any other sport bike circles for that matter. We’ve had a few on the site, but none quit like this one. Just in case you were sleeping in 1999 and missed the Yamaha press release here it is again.
Now that you’ve been introduced to what a bone stock R7 looks like feast your eyes on this one. It reminds me of my bald Uncle Larry who still sports a mullet.
All business up front and all party in the back
Have a look….
From the owner:
When you think rare bikes (I’m talking rock horse poo rare!) the YAMAHA R7 has to be on the list. This is the real deal. A full on factory superbike. 1999 Yamaha R7 fully kitted YEC parts. This bike competed in the MACAU Grand Prix (Jefferies), Island of Man and the Northwest 200. The specs are sic. A full on YEC R1 1000cc superbike motor, Pankel Ti rods, YEC cams, YEC close ratio box. There’s aircraft style fuel lines and braided steel oil and coolent lines. Dynoed at 182.4 rwhp. I’m not sure of the actual bore size but I do believe this is a 2mm over motor. So I think it’s a 1040cc. Here’s the kicker it was tuned by Slick Bass (Fogarty’s Cheif Mechanic). He adapted a full Motec Ignition (yea MOTEC!) system in conjunction with the the R7 Yec KIT fuel injection system. It’s got a Stack Tach tied into a factory YEC wiring harness. The radiator of course is a multi teir Febor superbike unit (It was $5800), The exhaust is a full titanium Promotive. Look at the swingarm..pure eye candy Factory YEC kit piece. To stop this monster it’s got the tiny rear brembo caliper and a wicked set of AP 6 piston superbike front calipers with 320mm superbike rotors squeezed by a radial AP master cylinder. The suspension is full on GP (period spec) Ohlins. The rear with ride height adjuster. The front is sic! Fully adjustable 48mm pinched with a set of massive RSS front triple trees. There’s a Ohlins steering damper hiding under the left side fairing to stop those wiggles at 190mph on the ISM course (sic!!). Of course there’s the magnesium Marchesini wheels 6.25 rear, 3.75 front. Warped up are a set of pretty new Dunlop slicks.(just one track day) The body work is all fiberglass (sorry no carbon) painted by Dream Works in factory Haga colors. The suspension was recently serviced by Ohlins. It’s set up for a 190 lb rider. I did a track day on this bike at Road Atlanta and it was fast as hell and handled WAY better than my 07 GSXR1000.
Now this thing would make a awesome trackday bike if you want to show up and make the guy on the Desmosedici look like he’s on a common street bike. Even better put a light (something like a Suzuka 8HR single) on this thing and ride it on the road. Thats were this bike did the business anyway.
I’m going to test the water and see if anyone out there knows what this bike is, understands what it takes to build something like this and has the balls to ride it. There’s probably over $100k in this bike just in development. And that’s in 1999 dollars (or was that pounds?). Anyway if you want one of the rarest bikes in the world (yea that’s a bold statement but completely true…try to tell me otherwise) man up and start bidding. It’s wicked cool and I guarantee you will not see another at the race track or on the road.
Okay, so it’s pretty far removed from stock trim, but the upgrades reads like a “who’s who” of the Homologation Super Bike World. Not to mention it was tuned by Slick Bass….. c’mon man, that alone is worth a year of bragging rights and that is priceless when your sitting around gurgling and belching with your buds on a Friday night while bench racing. Although, if you told too many guys that story it may cause some serious bloating within the group so be careful if you pick this beauty up.
Ready to “man up” and test your salt on a real Super Bike? and let me know where you’re first track day will be. I’ll come and help you dial it in. But, of course I’ll need to take it on a few hot laps to see if we’re making any progress.
Cheers!

only bid on this thing if you have a massive set of balls….
