For Sale: 2009 BMW HP2 SPORT
From the great state of New York comes this very rare, very fast, and very expensive BMW HP2 Sport. Released as a final investment into the boxer platform as a sportbike before the release of the S1000RR – the HP2 Sport was an instant collectable for those who could afford the $25,000 MSRP. The 130 horsepower that BMW squeezed from the boxer twin certainly didn’t hurt matters, and the limited numbers produced ensured exclusivity.
What appears to be a teutonic mash-up of Ducati and Bimota in German form, the HP2 Sport was built to redefine performance on BMW terms. Littered with top level components and plenty of carbon fiber, the HP2 Sport delivered on the promise – but only to the rare few. Sure, the cylinder heads would still touch down with hard cornering (check out the valve cover skid pucks!), but overall this bike did a significant amount of PR for BMW and helped move the company from the “gentleman’s touring motorcycle” into the sporting spotlight.
From the seller:
LOW MILES, OHLINS SUSPENSION AND CARBON FIBRE. FULL FACTORY WARRANTY TILL 03/26/2013.
As of the time of this writing, this rare HP2 Sport is just over $10k in moderate bidding – with reserve still in place. These bikes have been crossing the auction block in the $18k range as of late, so it will be interesting to see where the reserve is set. If you play your cards right, this one could be yours for a bargain!
