Never Better – 2004 Suzuki SV1000S

Suzuki jumped on the liter V-twin bandwagon in 1997, and though the fine TL1000S didn’t meet sales expectations, they made some changes and released the SV1000S in 2003.  This one-owner example has been tuned and personalized, but ridden only 3,000 miles.

While the vacuum-cast aluminum chassis looks beefy, a look from – inside – shows it is not solid, but a complex array of stiffeners, adding lightness and rigidity.  The 996cc twin has many changes from the TL1000S including forged pistons, lighter con-rods and timing chain.  The intake and valve train is optimized for its 75 ft.-lbs. torque – though peak power isn’t nothing at 123 hp.   Right-side-up forks and monoshock are multi-adjustable, and there is a steering damper and slipper clutch to help the big twin mind its manners.  Brakes are from Tokico and 310mm in front, 220mm out back.

This South Jersey owner has addressed every comment the media had about the SV1000S, and made several cosmetic updates as well.  A more open exhaust and accompanying Power Commander has allowed the engine to be heard, some reviewers thought it was too quiet.  Braided brake lines firm up the lever and pedal feel, and an adjustable steering damper has been added.  Suspension has been updated and tuned, and the supersport fairing has been made full with factory parts.  Not to mention a lot of blue anodized and carbon accents.  From the eBay auction:

The SV1000S could only long for the success of the jack-of-all-trades SV650, and though Suzuki could have presented a model as exciting as this owner’s, the cost probably wouldn’t have helped matters.  As offered, the bottom line is a little more than the usual 15 year-old Suzuki, but the new owner of this SV will have a basically new bike, itself a comprehensive update to the TL1000S, professionally updated in every important way.  It’s also one of a very few monoposto SV’s with full bodywork, its angular complexities downplayed by the dark blue color.

Ah, the 600cc Honda sportbike. These bikes have long made a name for themselves for being something of a Goldilocks: fast, taught, capable, all-day comfortable bikes with a race-proven pedigree. As technology has evolved, the more focused 600s have caught up with the little Honda’s comfort and build quality and maintained their harder edge, but the weapon from Big Red maintains its mass appeal to this day on a fairly simple formula.

The 1987 Honda Hurricane 600 is the ancestor from which the street-focused, track-capable 600 takes its pedigree, and this example is an unmolested and well-loved exemplar of the marque. It has been garaged by one careful owner its whole life, and has reportedly never been dropped or seen rain. Because it has been largely sedentary, it will need a going over, including a new petcock and battery and a carb syncing. The tires are low mileage but are five years old, so they, too, should probably be replaced.

I bought this bike brand new in ‘87. I was 29 at the time. My wife of as many years, says it’s time to let her go. Right after a long day on the parkway with this bike, my wife found out she was pregnant with our first daughter. That was 26 years ago. It have been stored inside all its life. Other than being washed, I don’t think it has ever been rained on. The bike is all original as I stated. The tires were replaced about 5 years ago and probably have less than 500 miles on them. I had new boots on the carbs as the old ones were cracked. I think I have a new set of high performance jets somewhere. If I were going to keep the bike, I would have the carbs re-synced. As I stated the petcock is leaking and the battery needs replaced. I am sending you the rest of the pics. I can call you on Monday and give you a credit card for the listing. I also have a single seat faring for the bike. It’s still in the box it came in. I could sell it together or separate. I would like to think this bikes worth $4500.

It’s rare to find a Hurricane these days, let alone one as nice as this one, despite the fact that they can’t be called rare. Still, it will be a great addition to a collector’s warehouse or rider’s garage if the new owner is even half as careful as the original owner was. The ask is set at $4,000.

We’ve enjoyed quite a string of original, low mileage bikes as of late and here’s another: A one owner 1990 Suzuki GSX-R 750 and damn it’s sexy! Not only is it all there, it still has it’s factory tool kit, original tires, both keys, and both seats. Personally I’d have to ride it a bit regardless of the miles so I think tires and some fresh fluids are probably in order. Nonetheless, it’s a no reserve auction and you can expect bidding to be brisk with a bike this mint.

These words from the seller regarding this ONE OWNER bike really do say it all. Located in NY, this looks to be an honest RZ500 find with a title for that state.

Here is a bike that has been fawned over since birth by the same guy. Here is an advert that reads of not wanting to sell. Here is a bike and spares that would make grown men weep. THIS is exactly the sort of bike that RSBFS loves to post. The seller knows the bike, and is happy to explain what has been done to it as well as point out the flaws. There are tons of pictures, and lots of detail. This is eBay shopping heaven!

This RZ500 is not stock. Who cares?! I don’t think that I would ever have the restraint NOT to want to change something on a smoker. Let’s face it – as delivered from the factory, these bikes had great potential, as well as a lot of EPA and other regulatory baggage. Uncork those pipes, let ‘er breathe, and hold on as the tach sweeps through the range. That is what these legacy two strokes are all about.

1985 1/2 Yamaha RZ500RN (1GE)

I am the original owner of this bike, I bought it in January 1986 when I was 26 yrs. old. I have all the manuals (owners, setup, and service) and documentation, sales brochure, magazine articles, un-opened 1/12th scale Tamiya model, original bill of sale, and clean New York title in my name.

This bike has been part of my life since 1986 and I have always had strong emotional attachment to it (This was my first new bike). It has always been kept indoors in a temperature controlled environment.

Being a professional motorcycle mechanic for most of my adult life, I decided when mileage reached 23,000 kms, to give it a top end freshening with genuine Yamaha 0.25mm pistons and rings, and anything else that needed attention…. Worn YPVS linkage parts…. Bearings, gaskets Etc…. all genuine Yamaha.

New fork seals and fresh oil
New front brake rotors (old ones are included here)
Remove steering head and grease bearings. (tapered bearings are standard)
New chain and sprockets
(there are a few extra front and rear sprockets included here – for gearing changes if so desired.)

There were a few extra non-stock things that I decided to do at the time which included:

Jolly Moto race pipes – High temp black powder coat – I liked the original look
(Original immaculate condition pipes are included with bike)
All tuning for the pipes is done by me, and the carbs have my jet kit installed.
(I will include the original carb needles with the bike)

Mill heads .040” (1mm)

Replaced metric KM speedometer with UK spec RD500LC MPH speedometer.

Ohlins rear shock – (Original is also included)

I also did some of the Yamaha race manual modifications (also included with bike) which include:

Slot stator housing and advance timing 5 degrees

Remove split gears from crank gears
(Originals are included with bike)

This was all done back in the winter of 2001….. the mileage shown is what has accumulated since then…. The whole bike was gone through with a fine toothed comb… anything that was worn or ugly was replaced. I have a lot of spare parts that I have accumulated over the years including spare body panels as well as mechanical parts and wear items – Please see photos.

The seat cowl has a plastic weld repair on the left side and a crack that needs to be repaired on the right – see photos.

Also, there is another crack by one of the tail cover screws – see photo.

There are fresh (April 2012) Avon radials on the stock rims.

The minimum price that I will accept is the opening bid – there is no reserve.

The seller has pointed out the good and the bad. It is my duty to point out the UGLY. Prices are rising on these oil breathing monsters, and this one is right up at the pointy end of the scale. The seller is looking for a STARTING bid of $22,500. There is no reserve on this auction, but looking at that starting price, there really is. Is this a $20k+ bike to you? One Owner 1988 Yamaha FZR1000 For Sale!

It is no surprise that many called the FZR1000 the bike of the 80’s. It was hailed for its amazing power and even more for having a chassis that could channel that power and maximize the performance it had to offer. It was one of the main reasons that the terms “Deltabox” and “Genesis” are so familiar to and 80’s and 90’s sportbike lover.

Let me just say that this bike does not look like a 31k mile bike. In fact, if you told me it had 3k miles, I would probably believe it from the photos. Talk about clean. It is also a one owner bike, meaning that the seller has looked after it for the past 24 years and it shows. The only non stock items that the seller mentions are a beefier rear tire (up to 180 from the stock 160), 39mm flatside carbs, billet clutch cover, and a Kerker exhaust. The pipe is definitely a nice era-correct mod. Looks like the wind screen is a tinted one as well.

This FZR is in mint condition. I bought this bike new in 1988 (one owner) Never dropped. The bike has a up graded rear wheel with a 180 tire. The engine up grades are as followed, 39 mm Keihin flat slide carbs, Billet clutch basket and Kerker header.

This bike is in pristine condition for a 24 year old sport bike. Bike has been garage kept since new, It is a must see to believe motorcycle with only 31000 miles.

Now I will say that ’88 was the year before Yamaha had redesigned the FZR1000 and in comparison, the ’89 is a better bike with the EXUP and Deltabox II. But let’s face it, finding well cared for bikes like this from the late 80’s isn’t easy, so this is definitely one to consider if that’s what you are looking for. This one looks super clean and would absolutely turn heads to those in the know. Check out the auction here!

When the CBR900RR debuted in 1992, there is no question that it changed the sport bike game. It was lighter than the other liter bikes from Japan (Suzuki’s GSXR1100 and Yamaha’s FZR) while making comparable power. More power and less weight? That sounds exactly like what performance is all about!

Fast forward to the late 90’s and maybe the CBR900RR has lost some ground on it’s competition and it was on it’s way out the door to make way for Honda’s new 929 and eventually the 1000cc machine. It also lost the dual round headlamps that seem to signify the golden-era of sport bikes. But with 130hp on tap, agile handling, and Honda’s legendary reliability, the later 900RR still screams “fun”!

The particular 900RR up for grabs here is a one-owner bike with only 2,036 miles! To me, that is rare. And other than a Yoshimura slip-on, some braided brake lines, saggy mirrors, and a tail tuck, this bike appears to be all original.

There you have it, a super-clean, low-mileage 900RR. Okay, so maybe it’s not one of the first 900RR’s and it may not be the fastest bike compared to other models from the same year. But, it is still awesome looking and I would bet you won’t see too many of these in this condition rolling around your town. And with the giant red wings and two, very obvious, R’s on the side, I think this thing looks amazing today! The BIN is $6,000, which might be a little high for a 900RR of this year, so we will see if it sells. The Big Boy: 1987 Suzuki GSX-R1100 (One Owner)

We have seen our fair share of classic GSX-R’s here at RSBFS. In fact, there is a 1990 GSX-R 1100 up for grabs as we speak. The GSX-R 750 changed the game when it debuted and the 1100 took it up a notch from it little brother. With 130hp ready to go with the flick of a wrist, the 1100 meant business. Here is your chance to own a prime example of one of these beasts.

The particular bike up for grabs here is a one owner example and looks to be an excellent looking survivor. Having only covered 13k miles in its 25 year life, this GSXR looks to be in great condition. The seller appears to have taken great care of this bike and it’s hard to see any major flaws. The seller also states that it has had zero touch-ups and comes with a clean title.

This GSXR1100 was bought new on April 6th 1988 from Freedom Cycles in Long Branch NJ. 1 owner, always garaged, 13,291 miles. Serviced the end of last year at the local dealer with new tires(Michelins), chain/sprockets(OEM), and fluid change. Only 100 miles put on it since. Very hard to find bike in un-modified original condition. Nothing has ever been painted, or touched up. Comes complete with all original documentation including sales receipt, sales person checklist, owner’s manual, brochures, service manuals and more. Original rear seat cowl, airbox, tool kit and everything pictured is included. Clear original 1988 title in hand. The bike has been doing more sitting than running over the past year. Although it does start/run/drive, I would recommend you have it serviced prior to daily use.

There you have it, a super clean 1987 GSX-R1100. For me personally, the fact that this is a one-owner bike speaks volumes about the care it’s been given and greatly reduces the chance for any “stories”. It even comes with a plethora of original manuals and sales documentation. This bike would go nicely in any collection. The reserve on the auction is still in place and I would suspect it to be off somewhere in the $5k-6k range. 1987 Honda CBR600F Hurricane With 8K Original Miles

This is a nice looking, first year, CBR600F Hurricane about to end on eBay.

Bike:  1987 Honda CBR600F Hurricane

Location:  Bradley, Illinois

Mileage:  8,101mi

The seller states that this bike is a one owner example, in showroom new condition.  The bike has been modified with a K&N filter (And probably a drilled air-box cover), an F1 exhaust system, a larger rear sprocket and the passenger pegs have been modified.  The only claimed cosmetic imperfection is the small crack in the front fender.  The carb’s were gone through earlier this year and new, Pro-line, fuel lines were also installed.

The bike does look very good in the pictures.  I don’t doubt that it is fantastically clean in person but there may be some small issues the seller may have missed but, I’m pretty sure they know the bike quite well after 23 years.

Sadly, the only issue this bike may have is the price:  I don’t see this bike going for $3,500 and the seller has a reserve in place.  Heading into fall, I’d probably assume this bike would go in the $2.5k-2.8k range.  There are collectors for these early CBR’s but, they seem to not be willing to pay a premium because they know no one else will.

This was the first production 600cc bike to crack the quarter mile in under 12 seconds with a time of 11.7 @ 113mph.  These early CBR’s are quite fun if you realize they are 23yo technology.  Parts are prevalent and nothing is really difficult other than the valve service–just like any inline four within a confined frame.  The only major drawback is the rim widths.  While the rims are 17″ front & rear, they are quite narrow and were originally fitted with bias-ply’s leaving the current tire choices limited–but, still better than for an FZR.

Although I wouldn’t spring for this bike at this price, I believe these aren’t a bad choice if you’re looking for a budget collectible.  While the F2 & F3 bikes may have had more aftermarket parts during their time, the Hurricane will always be the first generation of the, ongoing, iconic CBR.  See this bike on eBay .
