1996 Buell Lightning S1
Miles: 8,800
Clean Title
Listed Price: $3,888.88 OBO
Listing Ends: October 6th, 2024
Introduced in 1997, Buell’s S1 Lightning was a logical next step for the company, a relatively lightweight roadster with interesting brakes and excellent handling, powered by a Harley-Davidson v-twin displacing 1203cc and backed by a HD 5-speed gearbox, along with the company’s belt-drive to the rear wheel. Obviously, Erik Buell made some sacrifices in terms of outright performance when he decided to stick with a Harley powerplant: the air-cooled 45° engine has bags of character, but is also very heavy and fairly primitive, as is the transmission. Fortunately, the attractive tubular steel frame and quality suspension make good use of the claimed 93hp and the bike feels agile and eager to run, the perfect twisty road companion, once you learn to short shift and ride the torque.
A super nice BUELL S1 LIGHTNING PM WHEELS, NEW BATTERY, RECENT FULL SERVICE, SUPERTRAPP MUFFLER, the bike is turn key ready to ride, is numbers correct and has been recently fully serviced, watch video for details, it’s a really nice bike and well worth the asking price. The bike that I’m listing are my personal bikes that most of the time sit or sit in my living room video link below. Sold with clear title ready for transfer. The bike runs /shifts/ rides fantastic no issues, the speedo shows 8.7k miles
These Buell S1s are generally underappreciated motorcycles and sell for pretty affordable prices, but this one is shockingly cheap at under $4k. It’s got some wear and discoloration, and what looks like some surface corrosion that you’d naturally find on a bike exposed to salty air for an extended period of time, although it’s hard to tell from the photos. Miles are low, mechanically, it’s said to be in good condition and, if you’re more of a rider than a collector, this could be a pretty cool daily or rolling restoration.
