The Ducati 748R was the homologation version of the company’s famed Tamburini-designed sportbike, and Bologna pulled out all the stops to ensure their v-twin remained competitive against the inline fours in World Supersport racing. The heavily upgraded engine featured lightweight titanium valves and connecting rods, with fueling by shower-type injectors nestled in a larger two-part carbon-fiber airbox. That larger airbox necessitated the use of a lightweight version of the 996 World Superbike’s frame. The result was that 748R made an honest 106hp, along with torque an inline four could only dream of. It made less power than the bigger 996, but also weighed less, and provided improved agility as a result. Approximately 2,610 were produced in total across all years and markets, with just a handful of 2002 machines making it to the US.

Ducati MS Perfomance Carbon headlight bucket
As mentioned in the post title, there aren’t many photos included with the listing for this Ducati 748R. From what can be seen, the bike looks clean and complete, aside from the missing bar-ends, although the carbon on the headlight bucket does look a bit faded, as you’d expect from a 23-year-old bike. Miles are low, the Termi pipes should roar, and, although it’s obviously not as desirable as the bigger 996R, any Ducati homologation bike is a pretty solid investment. A shame, as this would also make a real track weapon for someone interested in a purely analog experience.
