Often overlooked now in favor of the sexier and more modern FZR and YZF models that followed, the 1985 Yamaha FZ750 was a versatile sportbike that offered a modern steel tube monoshock frame design, half-faired bodywork, and a liquid-cooled inline four engine that was the first to feature Yamaha’s Genesis five-valve cylinder head that would feature in their sportbike range up through the original R1. The Genesis formula also featured steeply forward-canted engines that improved the bike’s center of gravity and significantly improved breathing for the engine. The claimed 105hp was a few ponies up on the then-new GSX-R750 and handling was considered very good as well, although the bike’s 16″ front wheel and an 18″ wheel are obvious holdovers from an earlier era.

1985 Yamaha FZ 750 in good condition for its age that runs as it should. I believe it’s original except for the exhaust and windscreen. I purchased this bike as a package deal in the spring and really have no need for it. It’s been sitting in the corner of my garage on a tender all summer. I would start it every few weeks. The front brake and clutch fill spongy and need to be bled. This bike is being sold as is no warranty. Bank wire transfer or cash in person. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. Thanks for looking
Yamaha’s FZ750 isn’t one of the most desirable or valuable sportbikes at the moment, but it is a significant transitional model and, like all bikes of the era, nice examples are getting extremely hard to find. This one looks very clean and mostly original, and should only need a bit of a once over if you want to make it a very good runner that’s sure to generate plenty of questions at your local bike night. Move quickly if you’re interested though: this listing ends on Sunday!

I am a fan of these FZ’s. I believe they are just short of painting the black wheels either silver or red that matches the body colors. It breaks up the black overkill. I’ve seen some that also painted the frame silver that matches the bodywork. The engine is a pretty good performer with literally just a jet change, plus it is a willing revver.. Replacing the rear shock/spring and fork spring/valving work really helps the handling.
Oh yeah. The afore mentioned paint mods with the stock black chrome exhaust really make the bike pop. Buit unfortunately, good luck finding that exhaust if it’s not on the bike.
