SELLER
The seller bought this RC45 on BaT in October 2023 and has added exactly one mile since. It’s one of about 200 built by HRC in 1994 to homologate the bike for World Superbike. Power comes from a liquid-cooled 749cc V4 with gear-driven cams, magnesium bits and fuel injection, running through a six-speed. It wears the original red, white and blue, with the Pro-Arm single-sided swingarm, adjustable Showa suspension, Nissin brakes and black 16/17-inch wheels.
The tires are older Dunlop Sportmax IIs. The oil was changed while the seller owned it. The sale includes the tool kit, a bike stand, a service manual and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.

One mile. In three years, the seller put one mile on it. That’s not ownership, that’s custody.
The RC45 doesn’t need much introduction here. It’s Honda’s V4 homologation special, built to carry on what the RC30 started. Honda built 200 for the 1994 model year, just enough to qualify for World Superbike. They cost $27,000 new, which put them in the same price range as a Ducati 916SPS or a Bimota SB7. HRC built it to win, and it did: John Kocinski took the 1997 World Superbike title on one. Cycle News did a road test on a ’94 that’s worth a read if you want to know how it rides.
So here’s today’s question: at $50,000 with three days to go, does this RC45 finally get ridden by the next owner, or is it heading for another few years under a cover? And if you’d ride it, where does it go first?
Good luck to the buyer and seller!

Oh man, this is something somewhat desirable!
I have personally seen there are motorcycle enthusiasts out there who cannot physically ride a motorcycle. To be involved in the motorcycle scene they collect, buy, and sell motorcycles they are interested in. Therefore, I no longer begrudge owners who do not put miles on a motorcycle..
In my opinion, this is the holy grail of motorcycles. There couldn’t be a more desirable bike. .
Lucky enough to turn a bunch of laps on one of these, at the Laguna Seca press launch of the RC51. Nice of Honda to provide the RC45 for comparison purposes.
I had one of the few imported into the US back in the late 90s. Handmade yosh exhaust that was sitting in the back of HRC offices that I got thru a friend. Toured on it and tracked it. Would buy it back in a heartbeat if I ever found it again but I fear mine has disappeared into a collection.
Prefer the RC30 myself.
