“I found this 1996 CBR 900RR that I bought from a older gentleman who was a private seller that collected bikes and always had it garaged… He rarely rode it and I got it with just over 4,700 original miles on it.
The bike was stock and immaculate and well worth the wait. It was yellow/purple paint scheme and I had it professionally painted to the red/black, as well as professionally installed PPF Clear Bra on the front and side fairings… The motor is stock and the bike has been meticulously maintained. All fluids were changed, Iridium spark plugs, carbs cleaned, jetted, seals, D.I.D. Gold 520 chain, Yoshimura Exhaust, 17″ front wheel, Galfer Rotors and Steel Braided brake lines… Race Tech Front Fork Springs/Seals… I have all receipts for parts and service… It comes with the original 16 front wheel, clip on bars, pegs, seat, rotors, sprockets to make it close to stock.
…I am 56 yrs old and have knee/hip issues and do not ride it like I had hoped I would. I have literally put less than 200 miles on it in the 2 years that I have owned it…”

The Fireblade. Tadao Baba’s project, and the bike that rewrote the open-class rulebook in 1992 by weighing about the same as a CBR600F2. For 1996, Honda bumped the bore and took displacement from 893cc to 918cc. This one has 4,886 miles on the clock.
Here’s what makes this one interesting: it came to the seller in purple and yellow and now wears red and black. Collectors will flinch at that. Riders will love it. The seller says the paint was done professionally, and the clear bra on the front and side fairings means the next owner isn’t starting over on rock chips.
The mod list reads like a guy who knew what he wanted: a 17-inch front wheel in place of the stock 16, Race Tech springs, Galfer rotors, braided lines and a Yoshimura exhaust. The best part is the stock parts that come with it: the original 16-inch front wheel, bars, pegs, seat, rotors and sprockets. That gets you a lot closer to original, but not all the way. The paint is the obvious one, and the list doesn’t mention the stock exhaust or fork springs. Receipts for all parts and service are a strong plus.
Now the price. $14,000 is a big ask. Hagerty puts a concours ’96 at $9,700, so the seller is clearly counting on the upgrades, the fresh paint and the receipts to cover the gap. Whether mods add that much value on a collectible is a debate you can have in the comments. There’s room to talk.
Respray and upgrades: does that add value or kill it? Would you put it back to purple and yellow?
Good luck to the buyer and seller!

Respray? It’s only original once.
This one was for sale on a different site recently and the previous owner commented on how perfect the original paint was and could not believe that it had been resprayed to this color. Respray and polished frame, best of luck!
The respray doesn’t even match up with the correct Honda red scheme of that year. This is sad. Not worth anything near what he’s asking. Live & Learn.
