For me all of the upgrades and looky loo’s don’t do much for me except make me raise an eyebrow…. or two. Obviously, there has been a ton of cash put into this machine, but for what reason? With only having 1000 miles one has to assume that this is an ex-racer/track bike that has been rebuilt. Now before you go throwing stuff at me I understand that some of you guys like to modify and chase horsepower on these little 2 strokes. The 300cc kit from Tyga and Jolly Moto exhausts costs more than I’m asking for my entire MC21 so don’t be discouraged by the starting bid of this machine. Personally, I prefer stock over the fiddled with, but to each there own.
I have several questions that come to mind when looking over this ‘SP28’. The seller states that there were only 1000 Repsol SP’s built in 1996 and that is true, but is this one of those? I seriously doubt it, but can’t say for sure. If it is one of those it would be worth far, far more than the current starting bid in 100% stock trim. If this is one and has been modified to this extent I’d say shame on the seller for modifying it.
Our friends over at NSR-World.com love to share their knowledge and discuss NSR’s until the cows come home so if you’re new to them I suggest you start there. If this machine is of interest you can get a history lesson here.
One of my counter parts stuck this one on our Facebook page before I could find the time to tax it with my thoughts. The general consensus over there is the same as my conclusion in that at $9,000 bucks the seller likes it more than anyone else. And believe me when I say that I wish the market for NSR’s were that strong because I would have sold both of mine a long, long time ago.
Click here to ask the seller some questions.
Cheers!

pretty sure MC28 SP in repsol came with black wheels…my guess is that it is not a factory Repsol as well.
And you are right Doug, if it were the owner should be slapped!
A factory unmolested SP Repsol…..what kind of dollars would that fetch.. 12k +??
The SP Repsol we featured a few years back sold for $12,500 (I think) and it was the Cat’s Meow. I know where there is a Rothmans with good miles for $10,500 so I have to believe the Repsol would still command $12k+
I used to own this bike, and was the one who built it originally and titled it. It was an original ’96 Respol SP which I sold with orignal almost new OEM bodywork. It was a decent bike, not my best, that’s for sure. There were almost no modifications to the bike when I owned it and sold it. My friend Billy bought it, sorted out some minor issues, and then he bought another original Repsol I had sold to one of his friends, that was even nicer. He sold this bike to Jeff in Oregon, and Jeff went town on the modifications. Jeff and I did a lot of business, and I now have all the good original parts back in my stable. That is why I am considering to buy it back. The race parts will be good for my 2 racing 300 cc bikes, and the original parts will go together nicely again to be sold at a reasonable price. If I get it and put it back to stock, it should be worth a quick sale at $9500 – $10k. My best sold for over $13.5k.
Hi π My name’s Billy and I just picked this bike up from Jeff today. I’m very excited about it, and it was truly an original 96 SP repsol? Wow, now I feel really guilty since it’s going to by my racing bike only.
What to do, I can’t help but try to ignore that now when at the track so I’m not always worried about binning it. Can’t think or worry about that stuff when you’re racing π
Anyway, just stumbled on this by coincidence while searching for the best tires to get for trackdays. I don’t have my license this year and probably won’t go get one until next year, was hoping for a good option for dot legal race tires or anything else that will suit this bike for trackdays and working on getting the suspension sorted for my riding, weight etc.
Billy
BTW, Tim – if you’re interested in lettting go of any original repsol honda bodywork please let me know π If I had original fairings sitting in the shop I’d really start contemplating racing the bike or not though..hmm.
I almost just want to equip it with the OE fairings and put it on a stand so I can look at it all day while working, if only that were and option and I was rich already.
Let me know if you’re willing to sell any of the OE repsol bodywork or have any for sale Tim, thanks again.
Heh, also don’t take my above statement of not having my “license” too seriously. Should have been more specific..I meant my racing license. I’ve been riding for a long time and slowly keeping it more and more on the racetrack and off the streets.
Billy; Feel free to email me anytime. I would be willing to sell the Repsol stuff I have. You can go to the 13X forums board under 2-strokes and send nsr250man a PM. From there I can provide an email address.
Please send me some more info for the 1996 Honda NSR 250 MC28 Highly Modified!

Tim, thanks! I’ll definitely PM you over at 13X forums. BTW the bike is great. The tires are very flat on top from Jeff taking it easy and no track days, it really is in great shape I think. Doesn’t look like it was ever really beat on and the mileage is damn low.
Still couldn’t believe this was a real 96 Repsol SP until Tim replied again. Now I’m considering buying a cheap 600 to build as a race bike for next year and keeping this one nice.
