Ducati Sport Production Second Series – 851 SP2 (Germany)

Second in the Sport Production limited series, the Ducati 851 SP2 is one of the most significant models for any Ducati enthusiasts. The model here is a rare find in such conditions:

Introduced in 1990 with a first production of 200 samples to be able to enter the bike in the Superbike championship , this was the first upgarde from the previous year’s SP1. The upgrade included the following changes:

Engine capacity of 888 cc. instead of 851 cc.

Larger intake and exhaust valves

Larger exhaust diameter

42mm USD Ohlins front fork

Weight of 188kg (dry)

Power up to 109 hp at 10500 pm

And in the hands of Raynold Roche in 1990 Ducati won its first of a long lasting saga of World Super Bike championships.

Going back to the beauty spotted in Germany, this is on sale on eBay at the link at the bottom of the article. It has 22.600km and it is in immaculate form as described by the private seller:

“In dieser Auktion kann eine sehr seltene Ducati 851 SP 2 ersteigert werden. Sie ist die Nr. 95 voninsgesamt Weltweit nur 380 Stück . Die Ducati 851 Sp 2 ( SP steht für Sport Production) hat einen888 ccm großen Motor und Öhlins Gabeln. Der große Service (Zahnriemen, Öl ) ist bei 21589 Kmgemacht worden ( Rechnung ist vorhanden). Die Reifen haben reichlich Profil (siehe Foto).Batterie und Tüv sind neu . Beide Seitenverkleidungen und der Hinterradkotflügel sind aus Carbon.Zu der Ducati gehören 2 Schlüssel und eine Bedinungsanleitung sowie die letzten drei Tüv Berichte.Ich bin eine Privatperson und verkaufe daher ohne Garantie und Rücknahme. Spaßbieter bekommeneinen Brief von meinem Anwalt. Die Ducati muß nach Auktionsende innerhalb 7 Tagen in Wuppertalabgeholt und Bar bezahlt werden. Die Ducati kann selbstverständlich nach Terminabsprachebegutachtet werden. Kein nachträgliches verhandeln. Die Ducati sieht noch gut aus. Natürlich hatein 22 Jahre altes Motorrad ein paar kleine Gebrauchsspuren. Sie ist meines Wissens nachUnfallfrei.”


The last service (including replacement of drive belts) was made at 21-589km and a receipt is available. The battery is new. The side panels and rear hugger are carbon fiber. The bike is sold without a guaranty and needs to be picked up within 7 days from the end of the auction. The owner confirms that to his knowledge the bike has never fallen.

Currently at 3500 Eur, expect to pay much more than that by the end of the auction.

Now this is something to pay attention to in the UK, not some silly wedding.  Didn’t we politely ask the Brits to leave years ago so we wouldn’t have to witness such events?  Lets talk Ducati history though not American history!  They still look good don’t they?  More than good, they just look “right”.  There is nothing extra there, just a bare bones racing motorcycle disguised as a street bike.

 

Exclude the Supermono and former race bikes; are the 888 SP’s the most collectible Ducati’s?  How about this one: if offered a 2011 1098 Tri Color or a 888 SP4 or 5, which would you take?  I’d take the classic in a heart beat.

While looking up info on the SP5, I came across a good discussionon the SP4 vs. the SP5.  Guys were arguing the case for both bikes and then someone tossed in the info that the SP2 was the last of the SP’s to be built in Ducati’s race shop. Does that give it more points to Ducati purists?  Interesting stuff to say the least.

This particular example has traveled 8852 miles.  It is relatively stock with a Termignoni exhaust and White Power shock added to the mix.

2006 Honda RC51 Pristine With 200 Original Miles!

This RC51 has 200 original miles, has a decent amount of upgrades, and looks to be in fantastic shape–as it should be with this mileage.  Located in Battle Ground, Washington is a 2006 Honda RC51.  This is the last model year for the RC51 with the ’05 and ’06 models coming in this dark gray scheme.  This bike isn’t completely original however, it features:

Akrapovic Titanium Carbon Fiber Exhaust
CRG levers
Gilles Tooling Rearsets – black
Brembo Mono block calipers
Ohlins Race shock
Steel braded Brake and Clutch lines
Double Bubble Windscreen
Renthal Sprockets
DID 520 ERO race chain
Power Commander PC3

This bike features very good mods but with it having very low miles I would expect a buyer to be more focused on a stock version.  This brings up the problem that, this bike has very good aftermarket accessories but, you could probably find the same bike with around 2,000 miles that would be considerably less than this example.  Regardless, if you missed out on a RC51 four years ago, check this one out.  The asking price is $10,500–just under what they were going for new.  See the bike on Craigslist here.

2002 Mondial Piega 1000

Following up on Doug’s Bimota post from Michaels Motorcycles is a 2002 Mondial Piega they also have available.  This is a hand-built, Italian motorcycle powered by a Honda RC51 SP1 V-Twin.  This bike has exotic looks with a dependable power source.  The seller states that this bike is one three in the U.S. with less than fifty made total.  The asking price for this bike is $32,500.  See it on Michael’s Motorcycles here.
