We feature a healthy amount of early GSX-R’s here on RSBFS, and for good reason. To me, these bikes represent a large part of the ever growing market for collectible sport bikes. Sure, they weren’t designed to be collectible or low production bikes when there were released. But what makes them collectible now is essentially that. Hardly anyone “saved” these bikes. We see plenty in very good condition for sale, but locating them can still be difficult. To me they represent an affordable way to collect and enjoy a kick-ass early sport bike.

This bike looks like it is for sale via a broker who is helping someone liquidate a large motorcycle collection. It has nearly 30k miles on the clock, but it sure doesn’t look like it! This bike looks as stock as it did in 1986, even down to the original pipe. The seller offers plenty of description about GSX-R’s in general, but doesn’t highlight any other details about the bike except for mileage and the exhaust being stock. There is however a video of the bike running and being ridden on the auction page.

Because we have seen a good selection of early Gixxers with varying mileage, condition, and levels of originality, we have a very good sense of what they are selling for. I can tell you one thing; we have seen these steadily increasing in the last couple years. RSBFS resident expert Rem thinks this bike is roughly a $6k bike. Of course this can go up depending on how many people really want it bad. Bidding is active, but still low with plenty of time left. You can check out the auction here and get in the mix!

Here we have another RareSportBikes favorite up for sale. When the GSX-R1100 debuted on the scene, it was the answer to many of rider’s prayers to a liter bike that was a hard-edged as the 600’s and 750’s of the time. The bike made roughly 130hp while weighing about 450lbs. That might not seem too impressive now, but back in ’86 that meant a lot for a liter bike. The GSX-R1100 was a monster on the track as well with rock solid steering and capable suspension.

If you have been looking for a clean 1100, then look no further. This bike is presented as a number-matching and near full restoration to bring it back to 1986 showroom condition. It has a host of new parts and refreshed bits (see seller’s description below). This thing is clean.

Offered for sale is my 1986 Suzuki GSXR 1100g. Recently restored it is a numbers matching original, nothing has been “swaped ” to make. this bike. it has never been crashed.

It was painted by Roman Levin of Full of hate cycle fab- (fullofhatecyclefab.com)

the engine was torn down and the cylinder head was cleaned and valves reset by MICHELLE DISALVO- (google her name to find out her qualifications)

the Powdercoating was done by GSD powdercoating (gsdcoatings.com)

it has new michelin pilot road tires- galfer Stainless steel brake lines, EBC double HH brake pads.

new fork seals- and 15w oil- new steering head bearings all balls. new DID chain new valve stems

new wiring harness new switch gear-new shorai battery, new sparkplugs. fresh oil and filter. new piston rings new starter relay new flasher many new correct suzuki bolts. some stainless steel hardware. the brake calipers were disassembled and powdercoated- then reassembled and installed. it has a fresh Ohlins rear shock

the stock exhuast sytem has been ceramic coated inside and out and the stock stainless steel guard reinstalled

THIS MOTORCYCLE IS SPIT SHINE CLEAN INSIDE AND OUT.

she starts – runs- and rides perfectly. it is a smooth and correct GSXR 1100G

it needs only stock Suzuki directional’s – fuel tank lower trim rubber and two or three correct fairing bolts.

otherwise it is a fine example of the first full liter gsxr.

if your interested in a keep sake bike or a novel machine and dont want any headaches- this is your chance.

the remaining few items have been ordered- the fuel tank trim piece a couple of rubber grommets and Suzuki Specific bolts. these items are expected to be delivered APril 12 2013.

they all will be installed and the bike will be complete missing nothing.

We typically see these first-gen GSXR1100’s go for about $5k in clean condition. The seller has clearly put some time and money in this bike to bring it back to near-excellent condition. Does the seller hope to get every penny out that has been invested or does he realize that might not be possible? The Reserve will tell for sure. Honestly, I would put this bike at about $6k+ given it’s relatively low miles and restored condition. It sounds like it could either be a turn-key retro rider or a living room piece. However you decide to use it, it is still badass and last time I checked, Suzuki wasn’t releasing an ’86 1100 next year. This may be your best chance to have as close to new as possible. Some Assembly Required: 1986 Suzuki GSXR750R Limited Project

Looks like the winter project just became a spring project.  Limited’s are rare but how daring are you? 

Lets get to the story from the seller:

So the story goes. The bike fell into my lap through a friend of mine. I got it about 6 months ago. I started to dump money over 2000.00 and paid 5000.00 for the motorcycle all in parts as it sat like that in the guys garage for over decade.  I have the original title.
The motorcycle has 38,000 miles on it. About 98% bike is there. Its only missing some mirrors , signals, fairing trim and center upper fairing headlight cover. All the other parts are there. The motorcycle was taking apart for single swing arm coversion. The owner filed the sides frame down then quickly abandoned that idea. The frame was fixed by long time fabricator in the motorcycle business. I have his name and number for verification. The frame has no problems and is very clean looking no scratches. Swing arm is clean looking as well. All parts are original. The fairings have been repainted and will need some more work. The lowers and the seat I bought on ebay. Im throwing in extra front end and Nice full Yoshimura period correct exhaust. All parts are very nice condition. Not all scratched up and rusted. You will to need powder coat the wheels get the seat reupholstered. The lowers need work as they were really rough. You will need a new chain and battery. All hardware and small parts are in a bag. Very complete build. A very strong foundation for restore. You see for the price its negotionable but not much.

Like the Honda NSR250 last week, if you have the patience and like the thrill of the search, then this could be a great project.  If not;  buy a model instead.  The bike has been on Ebay a few days now with no takers on the BIN price.  I’m guessing buyers are seeing a little too much work there for the asking price of $6,500, which is basically half of what you would pay for a nice example.  The seller did mention though, he is open to a little negotiation.  Shoot him an offer and clear some garage space.

Far Beyond Driven: 1994 Suzuki GSX-R1100 For Sale!

Spring is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than to jet on down to Daytona  Beach and pick up this sweet ’94 Big-Gixxer. This GSX-R1100 came with 156hp back in the day along with some ultra-90’s graphics. Sure, it wasn’t touted as the best handling or nimble bike on the road at the time, but with a top speed close to 180mph, you could bet your Discman and Reebok Pump-Ups that this could outrun pretty much everything on the road.

WOW! Where oh where will find another one like this? An ALL original 1994 GSXR-1100…true barn find. The only items on this bike that are not factory, is the Vance and Hines system, the stubbies, and stage-1 system. Other items replaced include fluids, plugs, brakes, and very recent Conti tires. This is a turn key unit….never raced, never down, and never altered. Must see to believe.

 

Not too much to point out on this bike given the description and the photos. It is near stock, with only a couple of mods and it doesn’t show any evidence of being down, which coincides with the seller’s description. Mileage is on the low side considering it is nearly 20 years old. It would probably be ideal to go through the bike and get it a solid tune-up as well. Bidding is currently at $2,900 with No Reserve. GAG Bomber: 1987 Suzuki GSX-R50 (AKA GAG RB50)

This will catch the eye of collectors of the smallest GSXR’s (or mopeds for that matter).  It is a ‘bomber’ version of the little GSXR aka GAG.  I don’t know if that is the official name but I’m running with it.  What inspired this paint?  My only guess is large amounts of saki.  The rarest (or ugliest) one though is the pink version.  I’ve only ever seen one for sale.

The ‘Amazing Machine’ also has a red and and white version not seen here.  Are there others?

This one is missing the big ‘GAG 50’ sticker for the lower right fairing.  Smoked screens were stock I believe.

Here is a Rare one also known as the rb50 and the gag50, These were never sold in the USA in street legal form, This one is one of 4 configurations offered to asia and europe. It is street legal, and an alternative to Honda’s NSR50 and Yamaha’s YSR. This one has been on display in someones home for the last 20 years speedo shows 1800 KM (about 1100 Miles) Bike is 100% complete except for red stripe on right side. starts first kick and runs great. It is quite the conversation piece and highly prized by collectors I can provide a bill of sale, I do not have a title bike was never registered in US please feel free to request more pictures and questions are welcomed

Where It All Started: 1986 GSXR750 (XR41 Replica)

Like a bass to a shiny lure I got hooked again.  A reader spotted this XR41 replica a few days ago and it has now moved to eBay with some extra pictures and information.  Yes, it is nothing more than a nicely painted 1986 GSXR750 but those in themselves (in good shape) are getting hard to find.

Here is what the owner modeled his replica after;  the GS1000R or its Suzuki factory designation, the XR41.  The bike racked up quite a few endurance wins including Suzuka and the Bold d’Or 24 hour.  This bike is circa 1983 so you can clearly see the where the development went when it came time to launch the GSXR750.  The bike is commonly pictured with a red seat so the seller was spot on.  Here are some good pictures and info on the real thing.

And like magic, there is the red seat, sitting on some custom bodywork.

It is crying for a custom cut down tank like the XR41’s;  fuel capacity be damned.

The info:

1986 gsxr 750 built as a tribute to Suzuki’s championship winning xr41. Bike has fresh oil and filter, fresh brake fluid and new pads front and rear, new hel ss front lines, new battery, fresh carb clean and sync with stage 3 jet kit and k&n filters. New customized body work with custom headlights and seat. Bike was not built as a show bike so there are some imperfections and minor scratches, but bike looks and runs good. Hmm, looks pretty good.  On anything getting up in age I’m sure you’ll have to check out all the rubber and plastic bits.

The seller has a BIN of $3,600 to go along with the auction.  Granted you have to like the yellow replica paint but the BIN seems qutie reasonable for a clean GSXR750 with some custom parts.

She is sharp but too bad these didn’t come from Hamamatsu with some race kit internals to raise the ‘exotic’ factor a few notches.

Low Mile Limited, Limited Time Remains:  1986 GSXR750 Limited

The RSBFS management team is going to be on my butt for letting this one sit: or will they?  This one started as a six day auction and as of this writing; not a single bid has been placed with two days remaining.  What gives?  Is the bikes not all it is cracked up to be or is the $10,000 starting bid too lofty?

The details from the seller:

This very rare 1986 GSX-R 750 is in excellent condition. Super low 1863 miles, you probably won’t find one with lower miles! I am the original owner. It has always been garaged and kept clean but has not been started for a few years. The paint job is original and still looks fantastic. It has a few nicks and some minor scratches to the paint, but no damages otherwise.

My amateur eye spots mis-colored wheels and the air box missing.  A friend of mine who is a Limited owner thought the carbs might look like Canadian versions.  I want to say I remember a RSBFS reader stating the Canadian bikes had different tanks as well.  I do not remember what that difference is.  Did this bike start its’ life in America Lite?

Having pointed that stuff out, it has less modifications than most Limited’s I’ve seen.

Maybe it is just the pictures but it just seems a little dull for only having 1863 miles on it.  The pod filters seem like an odd modification for a bike with low miles.

Although the starting bid is high we have seen very nice examples of 1986 Limited sell in the $10,000 to $12,000 range.
