Introduced in 2014, the EBR 1190RX was the company’s first truly mass-produced sportbike after the Buell Motorcycle Company rose from the ashes as “Erik Buell Racing” and built a series of low volume racebikes and prototypes. Clearly Erik was done with compromises in the powertrain department: the bike was powered by a 72° 1190cc v-twin that produced 185hp and was originally developed by Rotax. However, EBR purchased the rights to produce the engine from Rotax and made significant changes to the design, manufacturing the 1190RX version of the engine in-house. In Buell tradition, the thick frame spars doubled as the fuel tank, and the bike had a magnesium subframe to save weight. Suspension was of high quality, with a Showa Big Piston Fork out front, adorned with a distinctive perimeter disc brake and eight-piston caliper combination, a controversial choice intended to save both rotating mass and unsprung weight, but provide braking performance equal to a dual-caliper setup. The jury is still out on whether or not the concept really worked as intended. A sophisticated electronics suite rounded out the package, with 21 levels of traction control, and the bike weighed in at a claimed 419lbs, with fluids but without fuel. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, and EBR folded in 2015… There have been rumblings of a revival, so here’s wishing them the best. Buell always makes cool bikes, and the world is a better place with him and his creations in it.

I bought it 2 years ago with around 2200 miles and did extensive upgrades and modification. All Buell/EBR came with a paper thin bodywork from the factory. This bike was originally red. I have purchased directly from Buell their Carbon Fiber bodywork and used a professional painter to paint it similar to a new 1190RX Hummerhead with a few mods.I think it came out even better then the factory. Rear cowl now has Red, Yellow and expossed carbon fiber with a Pegasus Head in American Flag colors in contrast to of just plain red on Hummerhead. Also the front upper cowl has red lines going into one direction in comparison of a current Hummerhead red lines near mirros going the wrong way.The Pegasus head on the side panels is exposed Carbon FiberThis bike is not a beginer’s bike but for anyone looking to buy a true American Superbike this is the way to go.The 1190RX is powered by a potent V-twin engine, delivering 185 horsepower and 101 lb-ft of torque.Basically if anyone looking to purchase new Buell, here is your chance to save a ton of money and have mods that are now are not even availableHere is the list of upgrades:

I was told by a previous owner told that this RX was the LAST EBR RX made by Eric Buell factory in December of 2017I would gladly answer all questions or entertain reasonable offers
Stylistically, I’m not really a fan of the EBR 1190RX, but they’re massively competent sportbikes and this one looks very striking, with custom paint and lots of visible carbon weave. Just don’t drop it. I was able to sample one at a demo day years ago, and the riding position and feel reminded me very much of a Ducati 1098, although the dash had a slightly off-the-shelf look that probably won’t matter one bit at this point. There are tons of technical details to pour over at a bike night or in your garage, the engine, originally based on a Rotax design, should be reliable, and the bike offered world-class power and handling when new. If the EBR 1190RX is your cup of tea and you don’t mind the custom touches, this is a very nice, low-mile example.

Great looking bike but EBR is so nice what are you gonna do with it? How many EBR dealers or mechanics do you know? I can’t imagine the nightmare of getting parts or someone to work on it.
This is what should have been built when it was Buell…
Plenty of excellent Buell support out there, including the resurrected name and production of motorcycles thanks to the leadership and investment of Bill Melvin. Buy it, ride the piss out of it, enjoy it, and fix it if you need to! Parts and bodywork are available!
