Balas Rojas indeed- or as it translates “Red Bullet”.
I’ve always been a huge fan of small cc motorcycles and I’d say it borderlines outright jealousy towards the Europeans for me. I know we have the mighty parallel twin Ninja 250 and the recently released CBR250 single, but let’s be serious here. Are either of those really worth riding?
We’ve been long deprived of a smalll, modern, true sport bike since 1990 all the while our European counterparts get great little machines like this super looking Derbi. No, you’ll not hear me spewing about how great our entry level machines are because they fall flat with steel frames, steel swing arms and 1985 designs. Derbi builds it how it should be! Aluminum frame, aluminum swing arm, radial mounted front brake, USD forks and a trick under tail exhaust just to get the list started.
The US market stinks when it comes to entry level machines and if you are of the same opinion as me you can avoid the run of the mill ‘ho hum’ and kick it on this Balas Rojas.
From the seller:
2006 Derbi GPR125.
This bike was born from Derbis racing heritage. I bought this bike brand new in the crate and now it has just over 600 kilometers or 400 miles on it. Not even broken in yet.
These little 2 strokes came with the reliable Yamaha DT125 motors installed. This makes part access ever so easy. Has an electric start and trick under seat exhaust. Still have the nubs on the original tires.
I have done some modifications to the bike totaling thousands of dollars.
Bike has been de-restricted and re-geared. I installed a full Giannelli exhaust system. Changed out the non adjustable 28mm Keihin carburetor for a new tunable 28mm Dellorto carburetor. Removed the air box and added a filter pod. Added Boyseen reeds and removed the boast bottle which seems to never to work on this model from what I read. Took off the long and very ugly rear fender and made my own license plate and turn signal holder. Swapped out the rear turn signals. Added a trick little Daytona digital temp meter as the bike only had an over heated warning light. Not too practical.
Had all the black plastic body panels coated to look like carbon fiber. Can’t see this in the pictures but it is really stunning. Changed out many fittings to aluminum and titanium. Installed a Metrakit light weight front disk.
I have all the stock parts, pipe, carburetor, and front disk, boast bottle, air box, sprocket and a gasket set included. Have the owner manual and tool kit too.
I love riding this bike around town and down to the beach. Always a conversation piece. But it is time for this bike to go to someone else to enjoy as I just don’t have the time to ride it anymore. I have too many bikes.
I am asking $6,200 for everything. I have way more than that invested in it. Has clear Florida license and title. Tags good until April 2013.
Bike is located in Southern California.
