Monday Mailbag!

Hey guys,

Thanks as always for all the great suggestions. If you spot a great find or have something special for sale, email us!

Have a great week,

dc

Jay W. shot us the link to this great looking 89 Suzuki 750 with 1100 motor and bodywork. It’s located in Ontario, Canada and is currently at $3550 USD reserve not met with just about a day left.

Andy in New Zealand spotted this Honda NR750 for sale in the UK on eBay. The classified states it may be the only zero mile example in existence. Further they’re only asking £109,999.00 for the privilege.

Cael emailed us this sharp looking 1989 Ducati 750 Sport for sale in Kelowna, Canada for $4900 CAD. Seller is asking just $4900 for this bike “If you have the brass and the cash, it’s your turn. Please make sure to ask your wife if it’s OK to buy the bike if you need to. ” Love it! Good luck to the seller.

Finally Steven sent us this very sharp 1994 Ducati 888 SPO for sale in Toronto on Kijiji for $12750 CAD.

Italian Special- ’93 Ducati 888 SPO

Location: West Hampton, New Jersey

Mileage: 19,000

Price: Auction, with a reserve

I find most all sportbikes cool looking in their own way. I’ve made it no secret that even the 90’s super graphics on many a Japanese bike appeal to me. But for pure looks, Ducati is hard to beat. And in the world of sexy bikes, the 851/888 bikes are about as good as it gets. This SPO is simply stunning. Bike art in my book. A total living room piece.

However, this bike doesn’t just stop at looks. You like limited edition, homologated specials? Okay, here you go. Ducati brought this four valve liquid-cooled bike for AMA purposes. So you also got an Ohlins rear shock and awesome solo seat.

From the seller-

1993 Ducati 888 SPO

One of a kind – probably one of the nicest condition Ducati 888 out there…

I am the original owner, and this bike has been babied since I got it new in 1993.

Runs Great, Sounds Superb and looks red hot!   I’ve posted a short YouTube video of the bike, so please check it out …

Bike has/had …

  • New Timing Belts
  • New Barnett Clutch
  • New Front/Rear Tires
  • New battery just installed 4/2012
  • Custom Corbin Seat
  • Carbon Fiber Front/Rear Fenders
  • Carbon Finder – Instrument Panel
  • Tinted Windshield

 Bike will come with …

  • Rear Pit-Bull Stand; a must for sport bikes.
  • Original front/rear fenders
  • 2 sets of keys
  • All service paperwork and original manual

Bike is located in New Jersey. Local pickup preferred, but will ship and will run around $600-$700.

And the pics-

This bike certainly looks clean and the seller includes the original fenders for those who like all stock. These are collectible bikes, so stock parts are important. At 19,000 miles, the bike has been ridden. But if maintenance has been done that shouldn’t be a huge issue. The seller also includes a Pitbull stand, which is a nice addition.

These are beautiful bikes. Who knows where the reserve is, but I would guess a bike like this would likely approach the $10k mark. I  would also guess that these bikes will hold their value over time. So if you have the means, here’s a investment you can ride (well, occasionally). Anyway, if you’re interested, go check this auction out.

Round 2: More from the Seattle Homologation SportBike Collection For Sale

Update 2.18.2012: The seller has notified me that both V Due’s are now sold, and the RC45 and RC30 are pending sale.

Update 2.23.2012: The seller has notified me that the 888 is no longer available. The R7 is still available and we should be receiving new pictures soon. There may also be an opportunity to obtain an OW-01 from this same collection and I will add details when I receive them. -dc

We are proud to make that opportunity available again as he’s contacted me to let us know that he’s considering thinning the herd even more and is pulling the following bikes from storage to get them ready for sale. Get your drool buckets ready…

1993 Ducati 888SPO Superbike

OK where do I start.  Well firstly I have to own up and tell you that this is in fact my own personal bike:

1993 Ducati 888SPO on eBay

It is a 1993 Ducati 888SPO which was only produced for two years.  The model is specific to the USA and was designed to homologate the 888 for AMA Superbike racing. 1993 was the first year the bike was introduced and saw a total a total of 290 built that year for the US market.  A further 100 were made in ’94 with some subtle changes.  The 888 engine was an evolution of the 851 and the bike shares the same basic chassis however the bodywork was tidied up a touch and this version has Ohlins suspension on the rear with Showa forks.  The stock bike was rated at 100 hp but normal once you put in a new FIM chip and some FBF exhaust that number goes up. The SPO has a close European cousin which is the 888 SP5.  The difference is the engine, the SP5 unit was not able to pass US emission regulations and so the SP5 chassis was married to the 888 Strada engine and so you have a model in the SPO that is unique to the US market.

Since this model was for homologation Ducati used rather nice components, Brembo gold line calipers, Ohlins rear suspension, Marchesini wheels etc.  It is a beauty to ride and sounds oh so sweet and always gets a wave from someone who appreciates it.  It certainly saddens me to have to part with it but alas I am moving to Spain and cannot take the bike with me.  I just hope it goes to a good home.

And in case you wonder what they sound like:

If any readers has any questions feel free to ask them.

1993 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale in Wisconsin

When my wife peers over my shoulder while working on RSBFS and spots me lusting after one of these she usually states that it looks just like my bike, a 93 750SS. On the surface she’s attempting to be naive, but what she’s really trying to do is prevent me from adding another bike to our single car garage. While the 750SS shares the same headlight and turn signals, that’s where the similarities/shared parts end. My bike was the entry level Supersport model but the 888 SPO Superbike was the top offering in the U.S. for 1993.

Most of you are already aware of what makes the 888 a special mount but here are the cliff notes for those that don’t: Derived from the Pierre Terblanche styled 851, these bikes were a combination of 888 Strada and SP5 for the U.S. market to homologate for AMA racing. 4 valve heads, liquid cooling, Ohlins rear shock, solo seat, and more. Most of this technology would later find it’s way into the more stylish Massimo Tamburini designed 916.

1993 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale on eBay

Up for auction is my 1993 Ducati 888 Superbike SPO. The SPO was created to homologate the 888 for AMA Superbike competition. Here’s your opportunity to own a hand-built classic Ducati.

This motorcycle is very clean, well maintained, and cared for. Low miles. The condition of the bike is great. I have enjoyed riding it. Very minor paint chipping near edges (see pic) which seem to be common with these older bikes, but overall, the bike is in fantastic shape. Only problem I had was the overflow coolant tank leaking which was replaced.

– Full Sil Moto spaghetti exhaust system with Carbon Fiber cannisters.

– Eprom fuel chip mapped by Bruce Meyers @BCM Ducati.

– Carbon fiber tank guard.

– BONUS…I had Doug Polen sign the tail section and then had it clear coated.

THE LIQUID COOLED 4 VALVE/CYLINDER V-TWIN MOTOR WITH EXHAUST SYSTEM SOUNDS INCREDIBLE AND RUNS VERY STRONG.

The seller notes that this example is sorted with a “spaghetti” exhaust system and matching custom chip. The spaghetti exhausts, which are a complicated twisting mess of header pipes that flow beautifully, which are very rare now and very desirable. The last one I saw for sale was for a Supersport model and it was nearly $2k! Topping it off with a signed tail by Doug Polen makes this a real enthusiast’s treat.

There are a few chips noted and seen on the nose, but with under 6k miles this example should look fantastic as described. Being off season I’ll be curious to see where this auction ends — mostly because it would look great sitting where the 750SS now takes up space in the garage and I’d like to know what kind of savings are required to make it possible!
