Update on Bay Area Collection For Sale

Here is an update from Rory on the remaining inventory in the collection — with pictures!

Update 1.20.10: I got another update from Rory, and he tells me the RC45 and 888 are both sold now.

We’ve been a bit surprised by the great response through your site and been scrambling a bit to keep up with the inquiries. Invariably, people have been asking for details on bikes that we haven’t pulled out of storage to work on. And, as you already know, a real enthusiast from the East Coast struck a deal for 5 of the bikes, redirecting our focus for a time. A fellow drove up from LA on Christmas Eve to take the Ducati F1, and we have someone coming from Reno today to look at the Honda RC45.

We’ve at least rolled all the remaining bikes out to take photos and determine general condition and mileage. Anyone can contact us directly for more info.

Here is what is remaining as of January 5th:

’04 Benelli Tornado Tre – This bike has only 2 miles showing on the odometer and looks as though it has never been on the road.

’00 MV F4 – 426 miles The VIN# on this bike ends with 100000. While we can’t be absolutely sure, I spoke with someone at MV USA who believes that this probably the first F4 in the country.

’98 Ducati 916 SPS – 6059 miles. I’ve ridden this one around the block – great bike.

’93 Ducati 888 SPO – 2031 miles. Next on our list to get running.

’06 Yamaha R1 Rossi replica – 17 miles.

’06 Yamaha R1 Special Edition – 0 miles. No photo, but it’s the traditional Yamaha yellow and black paint scheme.

’99 Yamaha R7 OW02 – 3646 km.

’94 Honda RC45 – 3718 miles. Has two 1” diameter paint scuffs on side and rear panels but otherwise good shape. This bike is running now.

’72 Norton 810 Dunstall – 1983 miles. A very nice example and also now running.

Please contact Rory at vtauto@sbcglobal.net for further information about the remaining bikes available for sale in the collection. I’m still tempted to get a second mortgage and get a big trailer for most of them!

If you have a special bike or collection that needs attention, email us at web@raresportbikesforsale.com. We’d be happy to consider your submission for regular posting, or we can provide a feature service for a small fee that will promote the listing on every page of our site.

1996 Ducati 900 SP #973 of 1000

 900ss sp #973 of 1000 on

I know we’ve had several SP’s recently, but here is another one for everyone to drool over.

  • 1996 Ducati 900SS SP # 973 0f 1000 made. Bike is showroom mint with only 5451 miles.   Always stored in a heated garage.
  • All steel braided lines for brakes and clutch.
  • Brand new Pirelli Corsa tires.
  • Micron exhaust.
  • K&N modified air box.
  • New mikuni carbs with stage one jet kit.
  • Black hollow spoke Brembo wheels.
  • Oil cooling jets for pistons.
  • Full floating front brakes.
  • I have the factory exhaust the tools and stands all included in auction.

This one has a very low 5451 on the clock and has some very nice mods.  I am particularly fond of the black Brembo wheels on this one.  The seller has saved the stock parts, tool kit and rear stand which is always nice when considering a purchase of a limited production bike.  At $9,250 it seems to be a fair price, but having just completed a check of previous 900SS posts on RSBFS they might be hanging on this one for a while.  It seems the market won’t support the asking prices of most SP owners.  I’ve seen several stall around 5 – 6k this year.

1993 Ducati 888 SPO on ebay w/ no reserve!

Yet another 888 SPO for sale on .  This one caught me a little off guard because it is being offered with no reserve!  With that said, this could be a great deal for someone.

13

The owner has done some extensive modifications that are as follows.  They also list an interesting disclaimer on their ebay auction so make sure you read carefully.

GP front brake master cylinder
916 throttle & push button choke assembly
Air box mod w/ K&N filter
Fender eliminator kit
Upgraded ECU chip
Billet upper & lower triple clamps
Billet rear sets
JMC swing arm (stock included)
Carbon exhaust hangers
Termignoni slip-ons
Marvic wheels

Bike has 12,818 miles on it which is low for a 93 and located in Huntington Beach, CA.  I think I prefer the stock upper fairing better, but then again who am I to pass judgment?  The Marvic wheels and JMC swing arm make for a very nice touch.  You can compare this one to our other 851/888 posts by clicking here.

1993 Ducati 888 Superbike For Sale in Kansas

I’m always a sucker for the early Ducati superbikes and I’m keenly watching this market. Here’s an eBay listing for a 93 Ducati 888 Superbike:

1993 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale in Kansas1993 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale in Kansas1993 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale in Kansas1993 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale in Kansas

quote from seller’s eBay listing:

I can’t say enough about this bike. It has been a great bike but unfortunately has made it’s way to the back of the garage and this bike deserves to be on the road or shown in shows or as a museum piece. I’ve never ridden it in the rain and it hasn’t been ridden much at all in the past few years. I’ve had it on the Dyno within the past two years and it was still pumping out 100 horses. Great running bike and has the best transmission of any Ducati I’ve ever owned.

Bike has had several upgrades, such as tinted windscreen, Corbin saddle, O-Ring Chain, Upgraded EPROM, Carbon Fiber Tank Protector, Carbon Fiber Front Fender, Carbon Fiber Rear Hugger, Newer Style Pegs, Vented Clutch Cover and front sprocket cover, almost new tires. The cannisters have been “cleaned out” a bit and the bike runs and roars like a true Ducati should.

I will also send with the bike the Pitbull Rearstand, original front and rear fender, and extra rear “box” that has been cut down, and all other original parts that I can find. I believe I still have the original EPROM, Seat, Rear Fender etc. If I have it, you’ll get it.

A few years ago the bike do fall over on hot pavement (Kansas summer heat and fresh asphalt). It didn’t do too much damage, but did tweak the left clip-on (I ride it this way with no issues), scratched the back of the mirror and rubbed the part of the fender by the front left-hand turn signal. It is an easy fix with a little filler and some paint. The bike’s paint on the side panels were redone before the show to have the AGIP stickers put below the clearcoat along with the black along the bottom to make it look like a factory racer. All other paint looks great for a bike of that age as does all the other parts. In 2000 this bike won the Ducatifest at Eureka Springs, Arkansas. It was a great event and very well attended.

Looking at previous 888‘s listed on this blog, the buy-it-now price on this bike $8k seems about right. The listing is very honest about condition and it sounds like it is well sorted with common 851/888 modifications. Starting bid is $5k, so there is quite a margin in between. I’ll be curious to see where it ends up.

1993 Ducati 888 SPO: Yep Another One!!

Here’s another rare sportbike out of the San Francisco bay area; another 1993 Ducati 888 SPO for sale on Craigslist:

1988 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale in San Francisco1988 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale in San Francisco1988 Ducati 888 SPO For SaleDucati 888 SPO For Sale

quote from seller’s Craigslist listing:

FOR SALE: A beautiful 1993 888 SPO with 13,700 miles. Your chance to own a piece of history, the last of the hand built Ducatis and the father to the 916. 1 of 200 imported into the USA in 1993 to meet homologation requirements for AMA racing. A truly special machine that helped Ducati win the World Superbike Championship in 1991 and 1992, hence the #1 on the tail section.

Purchased in 2000 with 5,200 miles. Service records since then for major service intervals i.e. belts, valves and throttle body synch done by BCM Ducati in NH as well as by Desmoto in San Francisco.

Bike is stock and in excellent condition. Some minor scratches and chips from riding it. Runs perfectly and is very clean. Has factory rear stand included. Sadly it must go since I only have room for one Italian mistress in the stable.

Please call or email me for more details and pics. Pipes and front discs on bike in photo are not stock and not included.

With a $10888 asking (clever), this is one of the more expensive triple eights to be listed on this blog. While most Ducatisti will agree this where they should be, I think this seller may have a long wait before finding a buyer considering what other examples here in the states have been going for.

1993 Ducati Superbike 888 SPO: Just In Time For Christmas

That make 4 Ducati 888‘s listed on this blog for sale this year! If you’ve been waiting, this looks like another good one.

1993 Ducati Superbike 888 SPO on eBayMotors for $8300:

Ducati 888 For Sale with Fast by Ferracci ExhaustDucati 888 For Sale with Fast by Ferracci ExhaustDucati 888 For Sale with Fast by Ferracci ExhaustDucati 888 For Sale

quote from seller’s eBayMotors listing:

Hello & Good day! Up for auction is my 1993 Ducati 888 SPO. There were reportedly only 300 sent to the USA and I’ve got one of them! She is in great condition with many upgrades. She has been meticulously maintained and looked after. Got her in 2000 with 8k+ and I’ve put only 3.5k+ miles since then. Oil & filter changed regularly. She had just gotten a timing belt change, injector synch, brand new Michelin Pilot Powers front and rear and new battery all done within the past 500 miles. Amenities speaking, she has an upgraded Brembo GP radial Front Master Cylinder, Blue Kevlar Front and Rear Brake lines, new EBC Black front and rear brake pads, Corbin Solo Seat, Carbon Fiber Front and Rear Fenders, Fast by Ferracci Carbon Fiber Exhaust, Tinted Windscreen and Vented Clutch Cover. There are no mechanical issues to report. She will be a turn the key and run type of bike. I need to state that there is a minute dime-sized ding on the right side of the tank; it is really unnoticeable from the pictures. I also took the liberty of lining the extreme bottom of the left and right side fairings with Hercules Truck Bed Liner; I really got annoyed at how much pebbles and road debris tore up the bottom side red paint.

The only other Ducati’s of this vintage and price range that I would consider would be a 748, or a Superlight. And even in that company, I think the 888 is the bike of choice.

1993 Ducati 888 SPO: Yep Another One For Sale!

This 888 SPO is being sold in San Francisco for $11.5k on Craigslist. It sure looks like a cream puff and the owner’s description sounds like this bike has been a labor of love.

quote from seller’s Craigslist ad:

1993 888SPO. Excellent, almost flawless condition. 8470 miles. Fully maintained, oil changed every 500 – 1000 miles. Valves, belts, and all fluids at around 8k miles. FBF chip, modified airbox, Termi cans. CF fender & hugger, Pro Italia CF under tail kit. Ohlins shock. 41 tooth rear sprocket. New Pirelli Corsa 3’s. Great runner. All stock equipment and manuals included. Everyone that sees this bike and knows about them tells me to never sell it.

The seller joined the discussion on the Yahoo 851/888 mailing list and states the bike is being sold as a result of divorce. Someone help this guy out!
