I don’t know abut you guys, but the 750F1 is a top-5 favorite Ducati for me. The F1 was built at a time when Ducati was struggling as a company; financially with sales low and some poor management decisions. To some, the F1 was seen as one last gasp before they went under. But this was not the case as Ducati was taken over by Cagiva and the F1 was seen as a success and a true racer-replica for the street.
The bike up for grabs here is a real stunner. Probably the most stunning part is the fact that it only has 443 miles. That’s roughly a 24 mile per year average since it was new and that is not a lot last time I checked. The bike seems very well cared for unlike some low-mileage bikes that are moth-balled until they are sold. The seller highlights that it has been started and moderately ridden during his ownership and rebuilt and ultrasonically cleaned carbs.
From the Seller:
This 1988 Ducati 750F1S is an exceptional, museum quality, original, unrestored example that would be a fine addition to any Ducati collection. The classic Italian bike design and color combination are outstanding, and the F1S model was the last US spec version produced. I am the third owner, and the ownership history is documented back to the original purchaser. The bike has been started regularly, and ridden infrequently during my ownership. It has only 443 miles and has never been near redline while I have owned it, as it is still not broken in.
The first owner was Robert Nolan and he purchased the bike from Great Lakes Cycles inMentor,Ohioon 10-29-96. The bike sat unsold in it’s crate from 1988 until 1996. The original owner’s ID. card and sales paperwork is included along with the original warranty card, registration form, and assembly instructions. The second owner name was Richard Barsotti. Richard has a business called Wasted Spark Motorcycles inTopshamVt.Neither of these owners titled the bike. When I purchased the bike I decided to get it titled inGa.but since it had no title from anothe state, I was required to get the title “bonded”. This meant that I had to provide full ownership history for the bike. I was issued the title based on the full and clear ownership history and documentation.
The bike is exceptional mechanically and cosmetically. Due to ethanol in the fuel, I replaced both petcocks with new ones from Steve at Bevelheaven. Steve also recently ultrsasonically cleaned and then re-built both carbs. The bike is only being run on non- ethanol fuel. It runs and drives smoothly on it’s original tires, and has a distinctive throaty sound from the exhaust.
The bike is complete and original including unused tool kit, original key and key tag, original ,un-used and un- mounted Vitaloni mirrors and mounting hardware. A single handelbar mirror is mounted. The original owner’s manual and workshop manual is included. There are obviously minimal service records except for minor items like brake fluid change and fuel hose replacement. Cosmetically the bike is extremely nice, no cracks in the fairings and except for a few small paint nicks, the paint is like new. The seat is perfect, windshield plexi is like new. The bike presentation is about as good as it gets for a 24 year old bike.
Bidding for this beauty is already active and up to $14.5k with the reserve still on, but plenty of time left. This isn’t a rarer Montjuich, Laguna Seca, or Santa Monica model that tends to go for more money than the standard F1. It is however one of a handful of F1’s that we have seen on RSBFS and the second-lowest mileage one as well. If you have a Ducati collection, I would say that this would be an awesome addition. You can check out the auction here and make some room in the garage… or living room!
