1998 Yamaha R1 in the sought after Red & White color scheme

1998 Yamaha YZF-R1 with only 6,180 miles on the clock.

Located in Louisville, KY with a firm asking price of $5,400.00 is this cherry R1. Every so often ‘the ones’ are produced in the motorcycle world and this is one of ‘the ones’. For me, growing up watching and dreaming of motorcycles there are some that stick out:

– 1986 Suzuki GSXR 750
– 1986 Kawasaki 900R – Thanks to Tom & Kelly
– 1988-90 FZR 400 (had to throw it in) 🙂
– 1994 Ducati 916
– 1998 Yamaha YZF-R1

I know everyone has their own opinion of landmark bikes, but those are just a few that stick out to me as monumental bikes. Okay, okay so the 400’s don’t belong, but you get my point.

In 1998 I really wanted to purchase one exactly like this, but the local Yamaha dealer didn’t have any in stock, nor were they willing to wheel and deal on bikes that were selling like hot cakes. Since I’m thrifty by nature the “no discount” turned me off so, I ended up picking up a 98 ZX-9R instead and have regretted it ever since. I didn’t keep the 9R very long because I was disenchanted with it and grew tired of kicking myself for not buying the R1. So every time I see one of these I think of days gone by, should have’s, and never did’s. I think this one is priced a little steep, but I imagine someone out there shares my passion for this particular model and will pony up for it.
