As with Ducati, Moto Guzzi built its sporting reputation around race and road-going single-cylinder motorcycles. In Guzzi’s case, there was also the occasional 500cc V8 Grand Prix bike thrown into the mix, but it was really 1967’s sport-touring V7 that put them on the multi-cylinder map, at least in terms of production machines. The V700 was a high-performance machine, but the bike’s “loop frame” was far too tall to form the foundation of a serious sportbike. Lino Tonti’s new frame design introduced on 1971’s Moto Guzzi V7 Sport moved the generator from the “vee” of the engine to the front, allowing the top tube of the frame to run between the cylinders and the tank to be set much lower, while detachable lower frame rails allowed the whole power train to be removed for servicing, giving the bike an incredibly low, lean silhouette that Honda CB750-based cafe racers can only dream of without seriously compromised suspension travel. The resulting sportbike is a strange amalgam of sport-touring shaft drive and longitudinally-mounted v-twin torque-reaction that manages to be far, far more than the sum of its parts.

I am pleased to offer this incredible unrestored and rare 1974 Moto Guzzi V7 Sport with 22,031 original miles.
It is powered by a 748cc V-twin paired with a five-speed transmission Additional equipment includes a two-up seat, adjustable handlebars, Borrani alloy rims, a four-leading-shoe front drum brake, a driveshaft, and both side and center stands.
Rear dampers are original Koni.
The mufflers (OEM Silentium “shark gill” silencers) of this Moto Guzzi V7 SPORT are original and have signs of wear on the chrome, in some places the chrome is peeling and a small hole on the lower part at the rear of the left muffler visible in the photo which is normal given its old age since the bike was born 50 years ago, this exhausts still the original one.
– The engine & drive shaft was oil’s changed in preparation for the sale.
The riveted tag is stamped: 1974 and Frame is stamped 33618
Engine is stamped: VK*33618.
The cosmetic condition of this machine is just as good as it looks in the photos.
Some on pitting rust on chrome, one little dent (1 dime) on the back on the front fender, very difficult to see .
Everything on this motorcycle is original save for the paint on the tank and side covers, which was done to exacting period specifications.
The motor and frame numbers are also factory correct and original. And the running condition of the machine is flawless, starting immediately.
As you can also see from the photos in the photo section, I believe the machine has had absolutely no restoration performed to any part of it, except for the paint on the tank and side covers. The condition is EXACTLY what it looks like in the photos.
Photo added of electrical and under seat lamp.
Fuse box is in excellent condition, as well as original wiring harness.
Coils were replaced years ago, starter was rebuilt and works perfectly, new spark plugs.
Rear dampers are original Koni, original Lucas turn signal.
The tires installed on the machine are in very nice condition the rear one is new, with no dry rot or cracks evident, and while they are technically aged out, are in perfectly ridable condition and basically as new,
Original tools bags (see picture) inside the side cover come with the bike.
one the back of the front fender there is a dent difficult to see worth a cent coin.
Front and rear brake shoes are in very good condition, this V7 Sport brake like it does.
Brand new rear Tire Pirelli ME66, also brand new horns from “mgcycle”
This particular example of Moto Guzzi’s very collectible V7 Sport is mechanically unrestored and has very low miles for a machine of this vintage. That huge front drum looks terrific and is effective, for a drum brake, but the later V7 Sport’s twin disc setup is probably better for actual riding, so be sure to plan your stops ahead of time. There are no bidders so far, with another week or so left on the auction. Parts to maintain vintage Guzzis are generally available, so hopefully the next owner will actually add some miles to their investment.

Looks like the price is currently $9k with no reserve….not sure where the $13,499 came from that you state. Great looking bike though! I have a Lemans 1000 which also uses the Tonti frame and it’s a joy to ride.
Looks like the seller got nervous with the clock running down. That was definitely the Buy It Now price listed when I wrote up the post on Friday. And yeah, I think they were using the Tonti frame up until very recently on their lower-spec bikes. Guess they made back their investment on the tooling…
Im not in the market for another bike but the original V7 could certainly move that needle. Given the condition, even at full asking it could be a great deal for someone looking to join the Clan with a proper bike. My foray into Guzzi was a LeMans Mark IV which I didnt really connect with and sold it quickly. I think my experience will be different with a V7, Ambassador or an Eldo. Great find Tad.
