Although we try not to post too many track-only machines here, rarities like Honda’s RS125 NX4 always deserve a mention, and this one makes for an appropriate bookend for yesterday’s ex-Anthony Gobert Bimota SB8K. Fans of originality and unblemished, over-restored concours confections should definitely look elsewhere: bikes like the RS125 are definitely desirable, but most have, by now, been built, raced, rebuilt, crashed, rebuilt, refurbished, and raced again. They were designed to be, and remain, tools for going fast, not garage queens. For anyone used to street bikes, it’s really the insanely light weight that is truly eye-popping, with a partially-dry weight of under 160lbs. Just add fuel. Considering that weight, the 45-ish horses that can be extracted from the slightly undersquare 54mm x 54.5mm two-stroke single make for surprising acceleration, but these machines can get up to absolutely extraordinary late-braking and cornering shenanigans.

I appreciate that the seller isn’t wasting our time here with factory specs and hyperbole, but a bit more information about the bike’s history would be nice. Some history, any notable riders, etc. That being said, this Honda RS125 NX4 looks to be in very good condition and represents a blank slate for whatever sponsorship graphics, classic liveries, or racing career fantasies you’d like to project onto it. I’m absolutely fascinated by the elegance and mechanical simplicity of 125 and 250cc racebikes, but lack the mechanical skill to keep one in tip-top condition and, at 6’2″ and 200lbs, I’m probably just way too big for them.
