When adapting sportbikes into sporting nakeds, most of the major manufacturers seemed to feel that the full-boat superbike engines needed dumbing down for their new mission. The Japanese were the worst, often using last-generation engines in heavy steel frames to create their naked sportbike offerings, but even Ducati was guilty, with their first-generation Ducati Monster S4 offering a claimed 101hp, down from the 996’s 112hp. Not so with Aprilia’s Tuono. That bike used a 998cc 60° v-twin engine from Rotax that was just short a handful of ponies, compared to the one found in the company’s Mille superbike. Styling was just as bonkers as what was found on the Mille as well, and quality suspension at both ends meant you could make full use of the bike’s 123hp on a twisty road, while reasonable comfort meant you could survive the ride to and from said twisty road without your wrists and neck threatening to give up and go home without you.
Very low miles, excellent condition, well maintained.
Well gee, seller. Don’t let on more than you have to with that very detailed description description. Maybe the fact that there’s apparently nothing to tell here is a good sign? Certainly, the Aprilia Tuono’s Rotax v-twin has an unburstable reputation, and requires far less maintenance than a Ducati of the era, while offering very comparable performance and character. These are not pretty bikes, but look purposeful and very cool. Canyon assassin, track day partner, light-duty touring mount, cafe racer, Sunday morning poseur: this one can do it all for the $6,500 asking price, and the satin grey monochrome scheme with bronze accents is striking and unusual.
