The ‘Flying Brick’
This bike has been controversial with our readers. It seems you either love it or hate it. As Donn points out, “They have a cult following of BMW die-hards and engineers, enchanted by the aerodynamics and 100 hp.”
The K1 used BMW’s 987cc longitudinal inline-four (laid flat, hence the nickname “flying brick”). Driving our old RV was like steering a cinder block on roller skates, and that was really fun. So I probably would enjoy the flying brick.
If you appreciate odd and visionary design, like early ’90s European performance machines, are a BMW fan or just want to be part of a niche community – this bike might be for you.
Good luck to the buyer and seller!

D’oh, this is local to me and I’ve always liked them. And that’s my favourite colour scheme.
also known as the Ronald McDonald bike. Good bike but prone to overheating due to all the bodywork so take that into account
