Honda’s CB1100R was the company’s first homologation special and built at the tail-end of the twin-shock, air-cooled sportbike era. With just 1050 ever made, it’s rare in any market, but is especially hard to find in the US, as it was never sold here. More on that later. The bike was powered by Honda’s air-cooled, dual overhead cam, 16-valve engine, here displacing 1062cc and producing a claimed 115hp. Matched to a five-speed gearbox and combined with the bike’s 513lb dry weight, the package was good for a 143mph top speed. The 19″ front and 18″ rear wheels were Comstar alloys, and the bike was also fitted with sophisticated air-pressure forks, fully adjustable rear shocks with remote reservoirs, and twin-piston front calipers. Originally available with solo seat and a half-fairing, later years saw a switch to a full-fairing, with a pillion seat hidden under a removable cowl. Honda’s work on the limited-production model paid off, and the resulting race bikes built from the platform were very successful.
For sale this very rare Honda CB1100R SC05 RB
Only 1050 made, never imported in the USA
This bike is very clean and has a very special history.
It belonged to the manager of a racing team who raced CB1100R with Nico Bakker frame in the European endurance classic championship.
One day he needed an engine for the race bike and took the one from the RB.
So engine has been prepared with lightened and balanced crankshaft, Wossner 1123CC pistons and a special Teflon tensioner distribution system, most reliable than original.
The bike ran 2 races and the engine was put back in the RB.
For smooth road use, engine is also fitted with a special starter clutch system.
The engine is very powerful and very reliable, it runs quietly and can take lot of revs.
Bike has its original exhaust system in very good condition, no rust as usually.
Bike is located in France, near Bordeaux and I can help for shipping process.
Bike comes with 2 original keys, user manual and tools.
This very rare Honda CB1100R, currently located in France, caught my eye because I just met a guy here in California who actually has one. With a California plate. Which should be impossible, but apparently isn’t if you get really lucky… The paint and general condition on this example looks excellent and the bike, as described, appears to have a big-bore engine that was temporarily fitted to a Nico Bakker-framed racing CB1100R, which is obviously very cool. Probably, some points are lost in the minds of purist collectors for the bike’s mild lack of originality, but gained back with the Nico Bakker association.
