Today’s Ducati 748R was the World Supersport homologation version of Ducati’s famed Tamburini-designed sportbike. Uprated engine internals included lightweight titanium valves and connecting rods, and the bike was fueled by shower-type injectors nestled in a larger two-part airbox, suspended in a lightweight version of the 996 World Superbike’s frame. The bike made 106hp and offered sublime handling, with lighter weight and improved agility, compared to the bigger 996. Approximately 2,610 were produced between 1999 and 2001.

The asking price for this example is a nice, round number: $10,000. The good: the bike appears to be in relatively good condition and the price seems reasonable for a limited-production, high-performance homologation model from Ducati. The bad: it’s a little rough around the edges, with missing turn signals and mirrors that shouldn’t be too difficult to replace, and some exhaust wrap that will definitely polarize opinions. The 21,000 miles are pretty high for a collector, but the belts have been recently changed, and that just means the bike is already broken in and not too precious to do some track work…
