For the lovers of peaky powerbands, loud buzzing noises, pre-mixed oil and gas, and pretty (and aromatic) blue smoke, there are still a couple of days for this somewhat-less-than-pristine example of the mighty Suzuki RG500 Gamma. Meant to be a GP bike for the street back when two strokes ruled the racing world, the RG is equipped with a twin-crank, square four engine configuration just like the racer! An aluminum frame helps keep the weight down, although when that tach needle starts to swing above 8,500 RPM you’d better hang on tight. The seller hides no skeletons on this one and tells it like it is, which is always a bonus when it comes to auctions. As such, I’ll leave the description to him:
1986 Suzuki RG 500 for sale on eBay
From the seller:
Selling my 1986 RG500 GAMMA . Purchased about 2 years ago and ridden it less than 700 kilometers since. The bike was gone over and carbs redone, new brakes, fuel lines with shut offs and oil line check valves added in 2022. Also replaced the front cowl with integrated signals (reproduction) . I put 700 kilometers on it last summer but never more than 60 or 70 at a time. It now has 34900 kilometers or about 22000 miles. If you are looking for a mint condition GAMMA then this isnt it. The bike was ridden and likely saw some track days by one of the 3 previous owners as a steering dampner was installed.. As seen in the pictures it has some minor chips and scratches but everything works as it should and it does run well. Will include original cowl, signals. A box of new plugs and a few other bits for it.
More from the seller:
Due to a nagging neck/shoulder injury its been parked for the past month and likely wont be ridden again this year. This is the main reason for selling it. I also realize that once its gone the likelyhood of me owning another is slim so I’m not giving it away. The bike is a blast to ride and if it doesnt sell I am not worried as the next riding season is only 10 months away 🙂
When it comes to smokers above 250cc, the Gamma was really the bike to beat. It has the most performance potential over its period rivals, and continues to be a collector target. This one has seen a lot more use than most we come across, but given the scarcity of the model (especially in a particular 48 parts of North America) and the hunger RSBFS readers have shown for these magnificent models this one should be worthy of a gander. There have been very few bids, with the auction sitting at just over $15k USD with mere days remaining. If you are in the market for a Gamma, this might just be worth a look. Located in Ontario, Canada, some importation will be necessary. And while it meets the greater than 25 years old rule, there will still be some states which will make licensing impossible. Do your homework, and then zing the rings off the thing. You can find all the details (including videos) here. Good Luck!!!
