UPDATE: Sold to a collector in NY. Congratulations to the buyer and seller!
Today’s Featured Listing is a beautiful 1998 Honda CBR900RR brought to us by RSBFS reader Jesse. He is on the second owner of this iconic machine and has offered a lot of info about his ownership with the bike. Famously developed by Honda engineering leader Tadao Baba, the 900RR Fireblade was essentially a 600cc sized machine with liter bike power. It completely redefined the concept of hyper sport bike when it was released, and was the sharpest weapon one could buy straight out of a dealership at the time. Today these are sought after for what they represent, as well as their relative rarity. And while there have been some head-scratching sales above $50k on BaT in recent memory, today’s ’98 Honda CBR900RR is an honest rider’s machine priced to ride. Jesse has a lot to say about this wonderful machine, so I will let him take it away:

From the seller:
I’m reluctantly selling my beautiful ’98 CBR900RR to fund a track car build. I’m the second owner and I bought it from the first out of Colorado in May of 2019. At that time, the bike hadn’t been run for a couple of years and needed the typical carburetor clean. It had about 39,000 miles on it at that time as the first owner did a lot of riding in the mountains. Cosmetically, it was very nice but needed a good cleaning. I’ve been detailing cars and motorcycles as a hobby for nearly 30 years, so it was a pleasure to restore. I’m very picky about my vehicles and motorcycles and the bike hasn’t been rained on or washed with water since early 2019.
Mechanically, I put a lot of money into it that I hope someone will be able to enjoy. The work was done at Shawnee Powersports in Shawnee, Oklahoma, by a veteran mechanic who has a soft spot for the old CBRs. All of the fluids were flushed. It received a carb clean, chain and sprockets, Galfer braided lines front and rear, HH brake pads front and rear, Bridgestone dual compound tires front and rear, and finally, Race Tech gold valves, springs, revalving, and all seals on the forks and shock. It runs like new and if you’ve never ridden a bike with properly set up suspension, it is a great improvement. The handling and ride quality are excellent. For the originalist, the suspension appears stock, besides the aftermarket rear spring. I intended to do more riding in the curves but just didn’t get as much time as I’d like to make the trip to Arkansas very often. The bike has never been on a racetrack.

More from the seller:
I have receipts going back to 1998 from the original owner and my own receipt for over $4,000 for all of the work done in late 2019. The bike now has a bit over 41,000 miles and I occasionally get it out of the shaded corner of the garage to ride it on the highway for a bit to bring all of the fluids up to temp. It received a new battery right before I bought it and I’ve always had it on a battery tender so it fires right up. I’ve always and only used 91 octane pure gas: no ethanol, and used Archoil AR6200 fuel treatment with every fill up. Besides a K&N drop-in air filter from the original owner, the bike is stock, mechanically. I added some NOS Clear Alternatives turn signal lens covers soon after purchase as the originals were quite faded. The bike came with a Competition Werks fender eliminator kit from the late ’90s and it fits and functions well.
The few cosmetic defects are shown, with the biggest being a rock scrape on the lower righthand fairing from the first owner hitting a rock in the road. I’m asking $5,900, which in this day and age I believe to be a very fair price for something this rare and nice. I hope the bike will go to someone who appreciates the late ’90s/early 2000s era as much as I do.

If you are looking for a fast appreciating classic that is also fast and fun to ride, the original displacement Honda CBR900RR Fireblade is a great place to land. These are robust and reliable bikes that perform well, have a strong support network, and are infinitely upgradeable for those looking to boost this into something more. But today, this beautiful example is close to stock, has reasonable miles, and is looking for a new home at a fair price. Check out all of the pictures, read the details, and then give Jesse a shout.
Good Luck!!
