For Sale: 2000 Bimota DB4 ie
From THAT garage in Michgan comes another collectable bike with low miles. Ah, to have been able to tour through that collection before it was liquidated…. Be that as it may, today’s offering is a wonderful Bimota DB4 ie with only 1,638 miles on the clock. This bike is not as rare as some that we have seen offered out of this shop, but it is still a pretty cool ride from Rimini.
With a claimed 1,638 miles on the KM only speedometer/odometer (making this an imported bike – check for the paperwork), this DB4 is hardly broken in. Ducati air-cooled, two-valve twins have had a long history of reliability and are known for great torque. Don’t expect too much in the power department – stock these run in the 80-ish HP range – and fuel injection likely adds more convenience than performance. At least with fuel injection the carbs won’t flood the crankcase with gasoline when a needle valve sticks!
From the seller:
Up for auction is a 2000 Bimota DB4 ie (Fuel Injected). This is a very clean motorcycle that I am selling for my Dad who is selling his collection. This is one of the best driving Bimotas ever made. The fuel injection is spot on with no flat spots and the bike is very light and agile.
The condition of the bike is fantastic and is like new with only 1,638 Miles (2,637 Kilometers). It is upgraded with a Moto Corse Titanium exhaust and Moto Corse carbon fiber clutch cover. It has been stored properly in a heated and temperature controlled environment and has oil in the cylinders. It was fully serviced before going into storage mode.
The DB4 utilizes the same oval/eliptical tubing as found in the DB3 Mantra, but returned Bimota back to a serious sportbike offering (I’m really not sure how to classify the Mantra…). This is a classic shape that has all the artwork you would expect from Bimota, all of the great sounds you would expect from Ducati, all at a price that seems very un-Italian. If you are looking for either an air cooled Duc or a Bimota, this DB4 is a nice find.
Speaking of artwork, I just love the picture below. Check out the beautiful frame welds and the 17 digit VIN etched into the headstock. On most bikes this is pretty boring stuff. When you look at a Bimota, however, everything looks top notch.
This auction is going on right now, and bidders have been active. Bidding at the time of this writing is at $7,802, with reserve still in place. This seller has a history of non-sales due to high reserves in auctions, so this one will hinge on the reserve price. To check it out, including all of the great photos of this pretty bike, click the link and jump over to the auction. Good luck!!

Well, if this seller’s past history holds true, this machine will go unsold because of an unrealistically high reserve price. Everyone’s time will have been wasted, yet again.
Thanks again for the nice write up on this bike! For those who may be interested all but two of the bikes have sold after the auction. The majority have sold for my reserve price after the auction. Joe
Good to hear that all those great bikes have found new homes. Good luck with this sale, Joe!
I remember when he first started the auctions. That room was full!
There was another DB4ie here exactly the same as this yellow DB4ie I think you slayed that bike saying you dont trust Ducati Electronics or much about the bike. Now your all in praise of Joe and his fathers big fat Bimota collection. Funny how you were so impressed to write so many sweet things about this Bimota but put down the other one that was less miles and had more on the bike for a sweeter deal , really wonder where your coming from ????
I looked it up from Craigslist where it was listed
It had the Gilles Variobars New taller Steel Braided lines
New tires , not the 10 year old tires on the DB4ie
less miles, able to be registered in the USa but was a Euro bike with same headlights. All the work that that seller put in to raise the bars to make that a sweet riding position. Perfect flawless bike with poor comments on it here on RSBFS Why is that , wasnt that guy a big shot like the collector but had the same perfect bike ??
Hi Carl – thanks for the comments. Not sure to which DB4 you are referring, but you can search RSBFS for DB4 from this link:
https://evu.hhv.mybluehost.me/raresportsbikesforsale/?s=DB4&x=10&y=12
I talked to the Guy who had another 2000 DB4ie yellow silver black , I inquired to buy his bike. He told me this site was so negative about his bike taken from his craigslist ad that he demanded RSBFS take the pics off this site immediately.
But all the praise of this DB4ie that didnt have anything more special was given such a sweet praise. The other one had new belts and the valves adjusted just in case because it is a yr 2000 bike. New tires so you dont run around with 11 yr old tires. New extended clutch braided lines as well as brake lines . The throttle cable and choke also. Raising the bar height with such a quality Gilles Variobar is such a great improvenent to stock, that it makes owning and riding a pleasure in every way. Expensive and labor intensive job to get all the height measurement changes perfect. This wasnt just about adding a tailpipe or clutch cover, it made the bike user friendly, not ass and elbow suffering. So who needs someone to write crap against your perfect bike then praise the same bike with less proper improvements done to it caus your impressed with the owners Fathers collection. Sound like you sellers still want this site telling tales about your bike if the writer has some prejudice towards it as he did about the other yellow silver 2000 DB4ie ??
The writer here on RSBFS said he didnt care much about a Biposta, wondering why anyone would want that on this bike ?? Maybe the lines of this version flow better than the stump on the single seater Maybe the Italians improved it with this new color scheme and tail section styling ? Maybe putting an Italian flag paint job needed improvement.
Then the writer here says he doesnt care much for Ducati electronics in that removed previous DB4ie write up (on what Ducati ? all of them but not this same DB4ie ???)
So fuel injection is really nothing special ??? No high horsepower to speak of ?? With such a light nimble bike and since earlier Ducati’s had closer to 60 HP and were super heavy, this bike has all the power where you need it when you need it. Unless your not able to trim off your own belly fat and over weight a light bike anyway Still want this site holding on to what a buyer will read about your bike ??
one more thing , the DB4ie yellow black silver version
I inquired about was priced right from that seller, too bad it slipped through my fingers caus in person that is one hot
little machine in every way. If this one goes for even 12K
remember we know when it was first sold at 21K
12 K is worth every penny with mostly Ducati Parts on it with a great motor Try to find another one like it
The writer here says its not as exotic as what the collector had in his Garage. Ask the collectors son why they only put miles on this Bimota and weren’t so passionate to put miles on all the other (buzzy japanese motor in an Italian Frame Bimotas ??) This DB4ie has perfect lines and rides like it looks (BALANCED ), this seller knows how much more special than the earlier models that sit in a room their whole life. Maybe the Tesi 3D is special
but see how many guys unload them quick, they’re hard to get parts and difficult to work on Bimotas Thats why the simple one here isnt just simple , its the most usable and exotic all the time. An Italian Painter Carloti said ” beauty is defined by something that doesnt need anything added to it or taken away from , or its parts altered in any way” I believe this all Italian millenium bike is what I call a perfect motorcycle in every way.
