Today’s 1994 Benelli Devil 80 is I bike I’d never heard of before tripping over the listing on eBay. At first, I thought perhaps it might have been some sort of Derbi GPR 50 clone, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. We’d love to hear from any owners with more information in the comments. Aimed at new riders looking for a sporty machine, the bike is surprisingly high-specification in many regards: aluminum chassis, disc brakes, alloy wheels, electronic ignition and starting… Although the 50cc two stroke and three-speed gearbox combo is obviously repurposed from a much more pedestrian machine and offers intentionally limited performance: top speed was a whacking 25mph, although a race kit that added another 20cc and an extra gear for the transmission raised power to 18hp and 80mph. This example sports an 80cc motor, although I’m not sure whether that was a factory model or some sort of big-bore kit. Either way, I’m sure this thing is a ton of fun on the right [twisty, narrow] road!

I am selling my beloved Benelli Devil 80. 12 mighty horsepower from 1995. The 2-stroke engine was rebuilt over in Germany where I acquired it. It’s fired up and run perfectly ever since. She isn’t without some blemishes here and there after 28 years. The oil injection has been deleted and runs off of premix with the original exhaust. The odometer shows 21315 kilometers (13245 miles). You’ll be hard-pressed to find another one of these in the US, but it is simple enough to work on and maintain. She’s a blast on the back roads and even more so on a small track. It has an Indiana title in my name. The original German title will accompany the bike as well as a handful of extra parts and a two-seater seat.
The seller is asking $4,500 for this very rare little scoot. I spent some time scouring the internet for information and it’s pretty hard to come by, at least in English. Even the Benelli forum largely has folks scratching their heads when it comes to technical information. But it’s a relatively simple machine, and I’m sure a handy home mechanic that’s comfortable with Google Translate should be able to keep one running. Or maybe swap in a 125 or 250cc engine from something with better parts availability…

Rare, little. And i live within 45 min of 3 different gokart tracks that allow minibikes… what size wheels are these and what are the race tire options? First minibike i could see riding and also have to balance the wheels if it is actually as fast as the claim says.
Actually what I am having a problem getting mind around is a 3 sp transmission and a 80 mph top speed.
prudence suggests that if these bikes are that incredibly rare, it may be for good reason. No one could stand them?
Very good point! In many cases, “rare” also means “they didn’t sell well.” But there’s a lot of enthusiasm for small-displacement, moped-like machines like this one out there, so I was sort of guessing this was built for a specific European market and is rarely seen outside it. Certainly you’d expect to find more information about a machine like this online.
