Built between 2002 and 2003, Ducati’s 998S was the final iteration of their iconic Tamburini-designed superbike, and is currently the most desirable version of the 916 platform, with all the evolutionary changes that gradually improved the bike, including the stout Testastretta narrow-head engine producing a completely analog 135hp and the S-model’s upmarket TiN-coated Showa forks matched to an Öhlins rear shock. This particular Ducati 998S Ben Bostrom Replica is rather garishly painted to resemble that racer’s mount during his dramatic 2001 season in World Superbike racing where he scored a 6 first-place wins, including an impressive 5-win streak. It’s definitely not to everyone’s taste, so maybe it’s a mercy that only 155 were built? Feel free to flame me in the comments below…
This specific model is highly sought after due to its limited production and association with the racing success of Ben Bostrom.
This 2002 Ducati 998S Bostrom is one of only 155 units produced for the US market to honor Ben Bostrom’s achievements in AMA and World Superbike racing. The bike boasts red, white, and blue graphics over a blue trellis frame and is equipped with a 998cc L-twin engine paired with a six-speed transmission. Key features include carbon-fiber body panels, Marchesini wheels, adjustable Ohlins suspension, a single-sided swingarm, Brembo brakes, a blue solo seat, and a Termignoni underseat exhaust system with twin mufflers. It features a Testastretta engine and distinctive racing livery.
*Tank is signed by Ben Bostrom
Okay, so there’s a few things to point out here with this Las Vegas dealer listing. First of all, the listing has absolutely no information regarding the bike’s service or ownership history. Secondly, the pics are of weirdly low quality, so it’s hard to get a real idea of the bike’s condition. Thirdly: it might have the Termignoni logo on the exhaust, as I believe some of the stock factory systems were made by Termignoni. But this is not some sort of lightweight, high-performance exhaust that will bring the boom you’re looking for and is usually implied when you say “Termignoni exhaust.” Also, the tank was actually signed by Ben Bostrom? Great! How about a pic of that? And maybe a shot of the odometer while you’re at it? This is a rare and exclusive machine, but it’s matched by a big price tag and seems like a bit of a gamble overall. Because Vegas.

And it should be noted that bostrom edition was not the final edition, there was a 2004 Matrix version and the 2004 “FE” edition. They skipped the 2003 but when the 999 didnt sell well, they brought back the 998 for 2004.
I think Bostrom signed all the tanks. One of these came up on BaT and he related a story of being in the paint booth and the effect the fumes had on him.
