Held in France since 1922, the 24 hour Bol d’Or might be more popular on the other side of the pond. But even there Honda’s 900cc commemorative is quite rare, and hasn’t been seen on RSBFS in a few years.
1982 Honda CB900 F2 Bol d’Or ( Britain ) for sale on eBay UK
Right from the start, the CB900 F2 was a little different, with a longer stroke than bore and 32mm Keihin carburetors laying down 95 hp and a progressive torque curve. Though its twin downtube chassis looks familiar, something about the suspension set-up just worked, and reviewers took notice. 280mm disks seem undersized these days, and the F2 has a larger rear brake to cope with the 533 lbs. wet weight. A frame-mounted fairing with leg guards gave the rider a quiet spot to consider the 130 mph top speed.
Offered by a small dealer northeast of London, this Bol d’Or looks very good with stock cosmetics and just about 35K miles. Maybe those headers could be re-chromed or polished up a bit, but the Motad stainless mufflers look great. Might ask about recent maintenance, since there’s no mention in the eBay auction:
CLASSIC COLLECTIBLE BOL D’OR MODEL ONLY MADE IN LIMITED NUMBERS, TOTALLY ORIGINAL OTHER THAN A NEW MOTAD STAINLESS STEEL ORIGINAL STYLE EXHAUST SYSTEM, SPEEDO IS KM SHOWING 55,746 KM WHICH IS 34,638 IN MILES, BIKE RUNS AND RIDES GOOD, WILL COME WITH A NEW MOT, CAST IRON INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY
Honda had won the 1976-79 Bols likely on CB750’s, since the CB900 was a recent and worthwhile update. The CB900F was superceded by the CB1100F in 1984 but the winning “almost a liter” formula returned in 2002 with the CBR900RR engine. Can’t argue with the investment potential these days, and under the fairing it’s still a CB900F which should be readily repairable. This one has less miles and asks for less £ than our last Bol d’Or, but there’s shipping and import to consider.
