For Sale: 2002 Aprilia RS250 in Hungary
After whiffing on my XR1000 post (I *still* think those bikes are rare, but I concede the sporting nature is a bit lacking), I was determined to find something rare, cool, fast and desirable – who would have guessed that my search would take me to Hungary? Yet located in that post-Eastern Bloc country is this fantastic Ape RS250, which is certainly the antithesis of the aforementioned XR.
In case you have not been paying attention, the RS250 and its variants have been posted here on RSBFS many times (search RSBFS for Aprilia RS250). Heck, even the Boss man rides one! If this bike can’t pull me out of my XR funk, then I’m not sure what can.
Powered by a Suzuki-derived 90 degree v-twin, this 250cc two stroke smoker is bolted to a thin-walled aluminum chassis complete with trick banana swingarm. Beefy Showa forks and Sachs rear shock handle suspension duties, and the whole package stops via a trio of Brembo discs. The RS250 was manufactured between 1995 – 2002, but none were imported for road use in the United States. We do see quite a few Cup bikes and track-day only bikes from time to time, and I can only imagine that it might be less expensive for North American enthusiasts to wait for one of those to come through rather than importing from Hungary. Be that as it may….
From the seller:
Aprilia RS250 2002 for sale from original owner in mint condition. Here is the story what I want to share with you how did I get to this point since this bike was one of my dream and I have never wanted to sell it,serious.
The bike was purchased by me in 2002 Padova,Italy from Aprilia dealer as brandnew.
I put 2500Kms on it first year then it was sitting for 3 years (started in every 3-4 months). Then I have start using it again and put an other 12000Kms in the next 3 years.
In 2009 I have opened my motorcycle shop and service and I had no time to ride it.Now we’re on baby project so it looks like this bike needs a friendly new home.
The bike was always garage kept at room temperature, now she is sitting in my showroom covered.
This bike was serviced in every 4000Km along to the factory manual by me.First 1000Km it was running on AGIP Racing 100% syn. after that I have allways used Motul 710 (600).In colder season I was using NGK BR8ECM sparkplugs in hot BR9ECM.There is Motul Transoil 10W-40 100% and Prolong gearbox additives in the trany (made it very smooth)and Motul Coolant in the cooling system.
During the years I have installed the following upgrades on the bike.– GPT 3000 Series Gear Indicator
– Anodized Preload Adjuster knob on the forklegs
– Jollymoto Full Sytem Exhaust
– HELL front brake line kit
– Custom rear indicators
– Motografix Aprilia TankpadThe following parts are negotiable for separate sale:
– Bitubo Side Mounted Adjustable Steering Damper
– Carbon Front Fender
– Carbon Rear FenderI never had issue with the bike since I gave my best allways to this Aprilia (Power Valves Cleaning,Fork Oil change, etc.)
There is only a smaller scuff on the right side of the front panel when I went to close to the wall.
It was never on the track and when I have jumped on it I rode it at least 20Kms each time.
This bike needs nothing but a good carb clean and a little vake up,what I’ll do to the new owner before he takes her.The bike is located in Hungary.
If you have a line on a reputable shipper that will take care of things for you for cheap, going European might be a great way to snag one of these desirable two strokes. I’m not sure how licensing will work out (i.e. sorry Californians), but it might still be worth pursuing if you are lusting after an APE. For RSBFS fans living on the continent, this one is a much closer find than most!
This auction is underway, with an opening bid of only $3,000. There is a reserve in place and ZERO bids as of the time of this writing. As the opening ask is not out of line for the bike (especially one with tasteful mods), I’m guessing that the location is this auction’s stumbling block. Tread carefully, ask lots of questions, and be sure and let us know if you happen to snag this great looking bike! Jump to the auction here.
