Words like pinnacle, ultimate or exotic get thrown around all the time. Often they are used to convey excitement for a brand, or the desire to own a specific machine. If you are a fan of the air cooled Ducati L Twin engines, the Bimota DB4 embodies those words, and showcases what this engine could do. These bikes are dripping with exotic parts. The machining is the ultimate showcase of hand built attention to detail. The overall package is the pinnacle of what a simple, air cooled, street bike could be at the time.
Very few Bimota rack up a ton of miles. They are normally owned as part of multi bike collections, and used by caring owners. Today we have something on a different level, a bike that is literally brand new. Not a single mile. It is like taking a time machine back 20 years, and having a second chance to buy one new.
One of the most interesting features on the Bimota DB4 is the aluminum frame that is made from oval tubing. The concept was to keep things compact, light and most importantly stiff. A strong frame allows the geometry to make the most out of the top tier suspension parts. While not often photographed, the packaging and engineering that went into these bikes under the skin is really something amazing. The Brembo calipers offer great braking performance.
Details From The Seller:
1999 Bimota DB4,1/10th of a mile. Bought from Bob Smith years ago, never started by myself, but turned over with oil in cylinders.
Been inside it’s whole life. Has some minor scratches on the belly pan not noticeable from above. I do not have the MSO, spare key or manual for it. I misplaced them and looked basically everywhere for them without luck. Of course, the rubber parts are 25 years old, so I would replace them.
I will assist with shipping, to be paid by the buyer.
Located in the Cleveland Ohio area. $13200.
If one was looking to display the best of this type of bike, today’s example would be a great choice. The Tri Color paint pops well in sunlight and overall makes for an attractive motorcycle. If one was so inclined to put this bike on the road, the commissioning process would probably be fairly straight forward.
Good luck to the buyer and Patrick!
*Personal note.
To add a small personal note, I owned a DB4 for a couple of years recently. It was owned alongside a DB2 and a 1000SS. The DB4 felt small, nimble and light in the best ways. The performance was approachable in the real world. The bike felt eager to be pushed. Service costs were no different than a standard Monster, and the parts support from Bimota was amazing. If someone is a fan of this type of motorcycle and thinking about a 900SS or 900SL I would very much encourage you to look at a Bimota. Upfront cost is basically the same in the current market and the bikes are miles ahead in terms of riding experience and rarity.
