Today’s featured listing 2011 Honda CBR1000RR SP represents the very best that Big Red had to offer sportbike enthusiasts at the time and is loaded with top-shelf components and exclusivity. Honda’s seminal CBR model line was introduced in 1987 as the CBR600F and CBR1000F. Known in the US as the “Hurricane,” the pair were Honda’s first fully-faired street/sportbikes and offered modern aerodynamic styling, along with a liquid-cooled engine. The steel twin-spar frame and 135hp inline four of the CBR1000F obviously sound very mundane by today’s standards, but the 600cc bike in particular proved successful on both road and track, and the Hurricane spawned a series of very popular sportbikes that, while successful in racing, always managed to balance performance, handling, and livable ergonomics, compared to other bikes in the class.
The original CBR1000F was very much in line with bikes like the Ninja 1000 and Yamaha FZR1000 of the time. It was fast, but it was also big and heavy. Enter the Honda CBR900RR, the true spiritual ancestor of our Featured Listing. Known as the “Fireblade” and introduced in 1992, the CBR900RR was designed by Tadao Baba to revitalize and dominate the class, a conscious decision on the part of Honda to create a smaller, lighter, more agile “liter bike” than other manufacturers were building at the time. While originally an 893cc engine, displacement creep saw an increase from 893cc, to 929cc, and then 954cc as bikes in the class became ever more focused and powerful, until the introduction of the 998cc Honda CBR1000RR in 2004.
Another substantial redesign of the CBR1000RR came along in 2008 and saw displacement increase to 999cc. A larger bore and reduced stroke allowed 13,000rpm, while a slipper clutch helped manage those revs on downshifts and an entirely new frame, along with a new low-mount exhaust helped reduce weight and centralize mass. Styling of the bike was a huge departure compared to previous machines, with simplified bodywork and an almost complete lack of graphics. I’m a huge fan, but apparently the buying public found it a bit boring, and subsequent updates to the bodywork included the expected graphics and styling flourishes seen here. Happily, you can still see some echoes of the first version of this bike in the very classy tank badges. This particular bike is the tasty SP version of the CBR1000RR and features a whole host of top-shelf upgrades and performance improvements the seller clearly enumerates below.
For Sale – 2014 CBR1000RR SP – Fireblade SP – CBR1000S
Limited production – Less than 1100 original miles on clock. This is one of the few historical examples of Honda Japan’s engineering team creating a fully streetable, road going, handmade Superbike-derived machine that was targeted and intended for racetrack use around the globe. This bike’s overall design, though very similar at first blush to the common man’s CBR1000RR, is vastly different. Other than the instantly recognizable and fly HRC livery, the racing hop parts and ergonomic changes – this bike has a myriad of “not visible to naked eye” chassis and handling design enhancements/attributes throughout. The limited edition red, 2 tone blue and white HRC livery is all original OEM Honda and exclusive only to these SP designated models. Paint is flawless, with no touch ups, or repairs of any type whatsoever. OEM SP specific windscreen is perfect. OEM champagne gold powder coated wheels (specific to SP version only) are perfect.
Never dropped, wrecked, never tumped. Bike is showroom clean and free of blemish. Has been stored in climate controlled private collection since new – and only ridden gingerly in gated golf community and beautiful warm days only. Has never seen rain or foul weather or rough, bumpy roads. Runs/rides as good today as it did when purchased new from local Birmingham dealer in 2014. No smoke, no leaks, no flaws of any sort. Fires and idles instantly at the hit of the button. Revs as smooth and as vibration free as an electric TESLA motor. Transmission shifts smooth and effortlessly through all gears, snicking in and out of gear at the lightest tap of the toe. Clutch lever action is perfect – precision smooth disengagement and engagement. The special front Brembo brakes are smooth, linear and powerful – with hella progressive stopping power thanks to the Brembo monoblock M4 calipers, staggered piston diameters and sintered metallic Brembo race pads. No pulsing, pumping, fading, mushiness or shuddering under hard braking. This machine is just another example of the typical pride and craftsmanship that goes into every single one of Honda’s machines which is a staple concept and mantra of Honda’s manufacturing philosophy since day 1. Having unmatched, impeccable and ultra refined build quality. Every Honda is built to the highest quality standard – above all others.
Though this bike has an extremley 1000 low miles, in the interest of keeping it well preserved long into the future, regular maintainance has been been performed – including full fluid flush and service (synthetic 5/40 Maxima Ultra4 engine oil and filter, coolant, front and rear 600 degree Brembo brake fluid) Brand new Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires mounted and balanced. (OEM factory set of tires were replaced only because they exceeded the 10 year date coding). YUASA AGM battery is brand new with tender pigtail. Bike includes both factory keys, tool pouch, and all dealer sales paperwork.
The USA SP version Fireblade sold for $17,000 when new in 2014. Only 5000 units were purportedly made for global distribution with only a maximum of 250-300 hundred being imported to the USA. All of which were the well tested and proven full analog versions. A tried and true, formidable racetrack weapon.
What were some of the key differences between the “regular guy”, Average Joe Jr. CBR1000RR and the SP coded CBR1000S versions, you ask? Here are just a few of the notable differences.

Produced in relatively small numbers and featuring some of the very best running gear available at the time, the SP is the CBR1000RR to have if you’re a Honda enthusiast looking for a collector’s piece or for a reliable high-performance bike to take to the track. It would almost be a shame to use this bike as it was intended though: I doubt there are too many of these running around, or apparently not running around, with barely over 1,000 miles on the odometer… But it would be equally tragic for this bike to languish unused in a collection. Here’s hoping a sympathetic enthusiast picks this one up and occasionally gives it some exercise!
