Original Survivor
Yet another incredible example of a desirable motorcycle from our long time supporter Bob. Rare can mean many things to many people. Production numbers are an easy way to distinguish modern examples. But there are other things that make something rare. Was it just that so few thought to order a motorcycle configured in a specific way, or in the case of today’s example time can be a factor. As time marches on bikes are lost to a number of things. Usage, crashes, neglect, poor restorations, or the worst fate, a custom builder’s grinder. The older a model gets, the less likely a buyer can find a clean, preserved and unmolested specimen.
Little details go a long way when talking about the appeal of an unrestored motorcycle. The goal should be to step back in time, and recreate what it must have been like to own one new in period. This experience has broad appeal. It is not only meant for people that feel like they missed out years ago and have worked for the chance to own one now. It is also for people that are just genuinely interested in better understanding how these wonderful machines have changed over the decades. Many have grown up in this hobby listening to stories of those older riders telling tails of the 70s. Now is the chance to see what they were all talking about.
In the world bikes of this vintage the SOHC Honda and the Kawasaki Z1 take much of the spotlight. The Honda for being “first” in many eyes and the Kawasaki has a cult like following. This leaves the Suzuki GS1000 often overlooked. One does not need to dig all that hard to find that those that rode and tested the GS when it was new raved about the styling, handling and performance. Many have stated that it was the best all around bike of the era. That is exactly what you want in a vintage bike. No one is out to recreate test times, they are out to enjoy the bikes and use them.

The bike here is being listed for $10,500 with the option to make an offer should someone choose. A bike like this desires the respect of a collector and enthusiastic owner. The fact is that these are full bore collector pieces, and finding a clean example with original paint, exhaust, airbox and even mirrors is almost impossible at any price point. The amazing thing is that the next owner can buy it, enjoy it, be the talk of almost any bike night and never have to worry about depreciation, or getting buried in ownership costs. One thing that makes the vintage motorcycle hobby so wonderful is that someone could enter the hobby for a reasonable sum of money and start their journey with a beautiful example of a prime machine.
