Pour the Fosters into the gutter. Forget about the shrimp on the barbie. Give up on the opera house, the great barrier reef, Ayers rock or any other tourist sights. Ditch the Men at Work cassettes and your AC/DC CD collection. Turn off the tube – you can watch that Crocodile Dundee marathon some other time. The most significant Australian contribution to humanity is here, and it is not even Australian in origin. Behold what must be the last 2 “brand new” and original Suzuki RG500s left on the planet. Well, at least the only two currently for sale. These two bikes come as a pair – with interesting history – and will not be separated. So clear out that 401k, raid the kids’ college funds, pawn the wife’s jewelry, re-mortgage the house and sell a kidney and a lung: Vintage historic two strokes do not get any newer than this.

To call these bikes rare is to make a mockery of the word. This auction represents the Holy Grail of rare bike collecting, to put it mildly. Already have a collection? I’ll bet you don’t have two of these, much less an unused, pre-production model authenticated by the factory. Don’t have a collection yet? Bid here and you will have a terrific start. As to value, bring all you’ve got…and more. Bidding is currently above $95k AU (which converts to just under $89k USD) and the reserve is still in place. Worth it? Depends on what you value. I doubt that any buyer will fire these bad boys up and ride them to the local 7-11, but I’m sure they will be tempted. Check it out here, and start planning that trip Down Under!
MI
It will be a shame to spend all that money, and then you couldn’t get to ride them. Your gf/wife will ask “What are those 2 bikes doing in the living room?”
My wife would be saying whats those gammas doing on my side of the bed as her taxi is waiting. Too much money when you can buy a good rider for 10-15K. I dont think the seller is serious, just getting an current appraisal. Seems to be a few new RG500 in Aust. for sale I have seen thru the years.
Talk about a cool find, wow! I’d put one in the living room and ride the other! Just amazes me when these 0 mile bikes come up for sale, I love the idea of collecting but the temptation to jump on it would certainly get to me, especially on one of these babies. Cracks me up, doesn’t just have one unused one…but two!
Hi ya Jimbo,
l always take an interest in what people have to say about things like this,
l always enjoy peoples opinions, Its always a great read,
If we all thought the same it would be a boring old world…:)
But let me assure you that if the bikes reach reserve they WILL be sold,
l put them on E-Bay for world wide exposure,
The highest bidder at the moment is from the U.K.
The “New” RG,s you say you have seen for sale over the years in Aust was mine,
l would put it on every now & again but never seemed to find the right buyer,
l remember putting it up for sale for 20 grand at one stage & no one was interested…lol
l have always had RG 500,s The most l had at 1 time was 5…
So l was able to fang around like a blue arsed fly & enjoy the thrill of the RG on full noise
& keep these tucked away,
Best Wishes,
,
Having owned many of these bikes and seen your single seat bike I can assure everyone that it is genuine ! Well done Baffled on acquiring what is probably the only pre prod RG500 on earth. Good luck with the sale Baffled.
Hello Baffled. Welcome to RSBFS. Those are some pretty scooters you have for sale. Amazing you could resist the temptation to ride them all these years; I’m not sure I could be so strong. Best of luck on the sale!
-Mike
No offense meant, I am just mad i cant afford them! I get dizzy just thinking about it! Good luck with the sale as i am sure they will sell! I am a RG500 nut always following sales of bikes and parts.
Thx for the welcome Mike,
This is the first site l look at when l switch the comp on & the last when l turn it off,
l don’t normally comment on things, But l just had to with these bikes… 🙂
Regards,
Hi baffled would gladly trade one of my Kidneys as a down payment. Can you live without a liver ? My heart would be no good to you `cause my missus reckons I haven`t got one. Liver is probably dodgy as well but I do have three children a kangaroo and a goat. The kangaroo is female if that makes a difference.
Did not meet reserve! Just like I said , baffled is fishing for a current market value!
Hi Jimbo
l always try to answer questions/statements on forums a nicely as possible,
But today lm going to ask you a few questions first before l answer,..:)
Do you know what happened after the auction Jimbo..?
Do you know if someone had put an offer in after the auction finished ..?
Do you know the type of person l am ..?
Do you know if l am a legitimate seller or not …?
Do you know if l would stoop to fishing for a price on the current market …?
Do you know if the bikes have already been sold or not ..?
My guess would be that the answer would be “No” to all of the above questions,
So because you have no idea on whats actually happened with these bikes it might be worth while not accusing me of “Fishing” as you put it…
But then again, its very easy to make accusations when you can hide behind a keyboard,
My guess is unless he gets what he sets at reserve he won’t sell… Just my humble opinion over past experiences…
I have heard that he sold the pre production bike after the auction and that it remains in Australia.
Bob…you know dam well the pre prod bike sold…..
Cause you bought it…lol
l decided to keep my original bike now…
So it wont come up for sale again…errrrr…l think…
