I will never not post a Bimota SB6R or SB6 when I find one for sale. Crashed or badly neglected example? I’ll just title the post “Project Bike, Parts Bike, or Modern Art? You Decide.” The original SB6 had more striking, swoopy bodywork than the SB6R seen here. I love that bike as well, and it proved to be one of Bimota’s most popular, with over 1100 built. The SB6R that followed looked somehow more conventional, but more modern as well, with [problematic] proprietary gauges instead of gauges from the Suzuki that donated its powertrain to the cause: a liquid-cooled Suzuki GSX-R1100 powered the bike, along with the big Gixxer’s 5-speed box. Tuned to produce a claimed 155hp and weighing in at 418lbs dry, the bike is fast even by today’s standards, and was good for a top speed of over 170mph. Bimota’s usual Paioli suspension is up front, with a right-way-up design that incorporated carbon fiber fork tubes and an Öhlins shock out back, oriented horizontally and above the gearbox. Just 600 SB6Rs were built, making it much rarer than the original, although rumor has it that build quality is lower.
This 1997 Bimota SB6R has been dormant for years. Was a display piece in an office for years and then moved into dry storage for the last 10 years. If you wish to make a deal for it running we can discuss that. I have serviced Bimotas for the last 10 years and currently ride a 1998 Bimota SB6R.

Based on the glamour shots included in the listing, we’ve featured this bike at least once before. It obviously needs some work to make it a runner, but the price is shockingly reasonable, considering the last Bimota SB6R we featured. Still there are questions. The listing is clear that the exhaust included with the bike is the stock item, although several of the pics seem to show the rare and desirable Corsa system. Was that changed at some point? Does the sometimes troublesome gauge cluster work? Will this bike be a money pit to get running, or will it just need a carb clean, a fresh battery, and a splash of gas to bring the Suzuki motor to life? This bears further investigation.

Update: Thank you Tad for pointing out the exhaust. The seller mixed up the photos. He contacted us to make sure it is clear that the bike for sale does have STOCK Bimota exhaust. Some photos of his personal bike got mixed in by accident. If you are interested in this Bimota, give Chris a call and he can talk you through the details and answer any questions.
Think I’m ready to get back into Bimota ownership and if It wasn’t on the other side of the country I’d offer 7k and call it a day. For $10k there should be no stories.
