In spite of its pedigree, the Ducati M900 Monster was a bit of a “bitsa,” a mongrel that ended up saving the company from probable financial ruin. A “parts-bin special,” it had the air/oil-cooled, two-valve, 904cc engine, six-speed transmission, and non-adjustable suspension from the 900SS CR, and the frame and swingarm from the 851 superbike. The only new parts were the tank, seat, footpegs, and dash. The result was more than the sum of its parts and is, to my eye, one of the best-looking motorcycles of all time, and Ducati sold loads of them. With just 80hp [70 at the rear wheel] and 405lbs dry, it certainly wasn’t the fastest bike for the money, or the best handling, but it was affordable enough to appeal to a whole new group of buyers. And it was a bit of a blank canvas: being a bitsa, all sorts of better parts from faster or better-handling Ducatis basically bolted right up, and you could customize them to your heart’s delight.

For your consideration is this excellent condition 1995 Ducati Monster M900 that is up to date on maintenance (ex: new tires, recent timing belts, etc.) and is ready to be enjoyed. Please see the 70+ photos, cosmetics video, and running video linked below. This Monster has traveled 27,000 miles but presents more like a well taken care of bike with under 10,000 miles. I am a Ducati enthusiast and have used this Monster as my special “classic” Ducati comfortable but sporty street bike. This is a bike from my personal collection. I take the listings and presentations of my vehicles very seriously.
When I purchased this M900 a few years ago I was searching nationwide looking specifically for a carbureted, excellent condition, and original condition M900. So many of these bikes by now are beat up, rough, repainted improper colors or improper quality, and very modified. This M900 was “the one” and I ended up having it shipped up from Florida to Wisconsin. I normally do not consider bikes above 10,000 miles but this M900 was exceptionally clean for the age, miles, and was very well maintained. I have had numerous Ducatis (748/916/996/998, 999, 900SS, etc.), and some higher powered sport bikes (ex: MV Agusta F4/Brutale, EBR 1190RX, Super Duke, etc.). To me the M900 Monster represents a sweet spot for street riding. It has enough power and torque to have fun on the street, and has very usable power, but one does not have to excessively speed in order to have fun like on so many modern sport bikes. These Monsters are so simple, easy to maintain, dependable, have a comfortable riding position, are somewhat “vintage” at this point, and in my opinion are beautiful, especially in red! The Ducati sound is tough to beat.
Considering the excellent cosmetic condition, excellent very sorted mechanical condition, and how unmolested this Monsters is, I have tried to set the asking price fairly. If you disagree, offers will be considered. This Ducati is located at my residence in Sussex, WI zip 53089.
This particular example of Ducati’s iconic Monster 900 is certainly at the higher end of the price range but, as with all Ducatis: buy the best you can afford. This one has clearly been loved, maintained, and tastefully updated, excepting that later-model duckbill licence-plate holder. I understand not wanting to chop the frame to fit something neater [just do it] but I’d shop around for something less platypus-y. The very cool period upgrade LED tachometer from Aviacompositi more than makes up for that minor aesthetic misstep though. Miles might sound high for a Ducati, but these two-valve Pantah engines are understressed and very durable when properly maintained. The description goes into much more detail regarding the mechanical condition, and is worth a look, if you’re interested. This is the kind of seller you want to buy from.
