1989 Suzuki RGV250 VJ21A
Location: Saugerties, NY
Mileage: 12,352
Price: $4,635.00
The first thing that sticks out about this VJ21A to me is there is no reserve on the auction and it has a title- Not too shabby considering it will be possible to pick this one up for $4,635.00. Now, I’m not one to knock on anyone’s bike while they are trying to sell it, but the second thing I noticed was the seller doesn’t state that it runs, has run or will run in it’s current state of hibernation.
In reviewing the pictures I didn’t notice any major corrosion on the aluminum bits, appears to be 99.9% complete and sitting in stock form which is a huge plus.
From the factory these had a claimed 58hp, weighed in at 350# full of fluid and a top speed of 120mph. (Sarcasm-on) I know that isn’t much to some of our viewers, but to some it’s all that is needed to show those silly liter bikes the way around a track (sacrcasm-off).
This is a stock “89” RGV250! With original miles. I do not know the maintenance that was kept on this bike.
Every thing on the bike is in working order. The one thing missing at this point is the stock air filter.
The tank inside is clean, but as the pictures show the rust has claimed sum of the rear holding tab on the tank. No leaks from the seals. The chain and sprockets are not worn but the “O” rings on the chain have become old and are no longer on the chain. This bike has a clear US title!
The seller states that the inside of the tank is clean, but the rear mounting tabs have seen better days. This doesn’t look to be that big of a job for anyone handy in the shop, but I’d definitely make sure the tank was free of any fuel prior to firing up the Miller and dropping the mask.
As a reference, I saw a pristine RGV, a few months back, that was in really nice shape and the asking price was $7,500. I’m getting old and I can’t recall if it had a title or not, but either way it will help put this one into perspective.
All in all I like this one and the few problems it has shouldn’t be an issue to most enthusiasts. Rebuilding a smoker isn’t bad at all and parts for the these are available if you exercise a little patience. I hit up a few of my RSBFS friends who call themselves experts (pfffff!) and they didn’t have much to add to what I’ve already said. So, if you’re in the market for a nice track day project, a streetable smoker or just something to tinker with and resale this might be for you.
Click here to try your luck!
Cheers!

(pfffff!) indeed..
[…] another Suzuki RGV 250 much like the one posted a few days back on RSBFS. However, this is the VJ22, with a 90 degree V-twin two-stroke cranking […]
I saw this bike in Hollywood, Florida. It was a non running rough bike. It is a Japanese restricted version 45hp VJ21. Prob needs a rebuild, 34mm carbs, and a new SPAC to gt the unrestricted HP. I thought about buying it for $2800.
