1988 Yamaha FZR 400
Mileage: 7,800
Location: Caldwell, Idaho
I know what you’re thinking “Here Doug goes again with another 400 that isn’t even a RSBFS…” Well, all I can say is “Too bad Brochacho’s- you’re getting another one!”
Just like the title says: Only 7,800 miles! Which is on the down low for a 22 year old scooter. This one is rockin’ new tires and fork seals and looks to be super clean.
Check it out:
Super nice original FZR400. Adult owned, I bought this from my Air Force buddy in 2000, He bought it new. Bike is pristine, new tires, new fork seals. This is a rare bike, only made 2 years. Runs strong, no modifications. Have an extra stock exhaust and new factory mirrors still in box. I just don’t ride this bike enough.
Okay, so any discerning FZR 400 guy will raise an eyebrow after reading the description by the seller.
1. FZR 400 were imported for 3 years and not 2.
2. No modifications??? hmmmm……
Now let’s be clear- this appears to be a sweet 400 and I like it, but it’s missing something… Anyone? Anyone?
This 400 is missing the upper fairing stickers on the left and right side. You see it now? The problem with this is that they are no longer available from Yamaha. I’m aware of this being a bit nit picky on an otherwise nice bike, but it’s being sold as a “Super nice original FZR400” so when someone is advertising a bike as such I expect it to be just that. This in no way would keep me from buying this bike if, I didn’t already have a “Super nice original FZR 400” sitting in my basement. Vinyl graphic cutters are a dime a dozen and can easily reproduce the OEM stickers to make this bike “pristine!”
Here are some more photo’s for your consideration:
Don’t like the 88/89 red and white version? You can view my 1990 FZR 400 here
Cheers!

Hey Doug, I’ll bet the upper was replaced at some time. I ordered a new white upper back in the day and it came with no graphics just like that.
I did the same thing with my 88 back in 99′. I was hauling it in the back of my pick up truck and my strap broke and the result was a broken upper fairing. At that time I was able to replace both the upper and the stickers. It took me a long time to track down the stickers though. I do have an OEM white upper if anyone needs it..
dont have vin number??? to check it
The VIN won’t help if the accident was never reported/claimed on insurance.
Here’s a funny ad in Maine:

I really like the whole bitch witch tit thing he’s talking about….
@ Doug Says…
I agree – quite the visual. Or a greyhound with a firecracker up it’s arse – LOL
Wonder if it’s ever been raced. I’m going with the subtle clue of the giant mandatory CCS sticker on the side of the tank. When I raced, they made you put these on the side in order to race in ccs races. Then they gave you a little gold/silver/bronze version that you could put on the fairing or your helmet if you got a 1st/2nd/3rd in a race.
I looking for the GENESIS FZR, Yamaha 400cc or 600cc, in Excelent conditions…
I´m live un mexico city, and i buy in the border line in California or Texas…
Hey Doug, I’ve got an 89 400,(red-white) and am looking for an upper, if you still have it, I’d be interested.
Thanks & sorry for hijacking the thread.
