For Sale: 2000 Yamaha YZF-R1 Graves Motorsports
This is one of those opportunities that make you go “Hmmmmmm.” The seller has listed this as a 2000 Grazes Motor Sport Yamaha R1 (1 of 3 built for Chuck Grazes). Who is Chuck Grazes? When you look at the title picture, you can clearly see that the bike was originally delivered to Graves Motorsports. While Chuck Grazes is an unknown, Chuck Graves is well known as the man who owns the team that currently dominates AMA Superbike racing.
From the seller:
2000 yahma r1 grazes motor sport 1 of 3 built for chuck grazes – racing bike street legal – super modifid r1 -world super bike – less than 500Its a 2000 R1 Yamaha grades reinforce frame, ohlins shicks. just double triple clamps the graves. Motorsport is the motor. 1 of 3 made for Chuck Graves for the 2000 seasons.
I really HATE to find a fantastic bike, and then resort to picking apart the seller’s offering. If this is a Graves Motorsport racing R1, then what we have here is a pretty neat, and reasonably historical find. However this bike is clearly not configured for street usage, and there is no historical information with regards to who might have campaigned this bike. Was this a Yamaha/Graves entry, a customer bike built by Graves, or something else? The seller mentions World Superbike, but I suspect that AMA Superbike is more likely. The pictures clearly show something special; I just can’t tell you what it is or where its been.
The time is short on this one and the opening ask is a high $25,000. No takers as of yet, but then again the potential pool for used race bikes – especially high-end ones – is relatively small. If you count yourself as part of that pool, click on the link and jump over to the auction. There are a lot of questions, and I welcome knowledgeable readers to chime in. Good Luck!

Well, it sounds like a stock R1 with some graves motor work, and a computrack. You can see where the keys wore the top triple. It has stock forks? Neat bike, but needs alot more pictures/specs letter from graves for that money.
In 2001 it was probably best of the best, but a 13yr old bike with 13yr old technology who would pay $25k for it? $25k buys so much Ducati 1199,1198,1098, Aprilia APRC Factory, BMWS1000RR or a few bikes MVAgusta F3, r6 and maybe as used cross plane R1. LOL It’s not a museum piece, but I guess it could just be for a collection. Also if you want to plate it you are going to have to do a lot of paper work as a MCO (Manufactures Certificate of Origin is just that and not a DMV Title.
Hmmm, let’s review:
Flaky seller.
Questionable bike lacking full back up to verify claims.
Many unanswered questions and poorly presented.
Overpriced by at least $10,000.
Summarized: time wasting listing.
Geez, that illiterate ESL description inspires tons of confidence.
I would feel totally comfortable forking over close to $30,000 on a ” racing bike street legal – super modifid r1 -world super bike” with “ohlin shicks”.
*cough*
I think Charlie Sheene must have been the chief mechanic on this one and taken all the trick bits home with him and who is “Chuck Grazes”? And what is a “double triple clamp”? Nice paint job though……
couple of other small nitpicks aside from the suspension that someone else pointed slightly at. A “superbike” (whether AMA or WSBK) would not have a key cylinder or a stock guage cluster. Nor would it have the conventional style Magura ( probably) brake master cylinder, as I am pretty sure they would use a Radial type. This would coincide with the use of probably some style of upgraded brake calipers, instead of the stock Nissin style ones as seen.
This is a train wreck. Lucky to get $5k imho.
Holy crap, please tell me this add was translated with google. Be careful (in case there weren’t enough warnings) if they want a wire transfer to their uncle in Somalia. lol
The setup sheet list the owner as T. Aquino. to bad it doesn’t list the vin to verify it’s from the same bike. Not that it makes much difference, not worth $25k
I have the real deal Graves R7/R1 in my collection. That bike ridden by Damon Buckmaster in the Formula Extreme series was built by Chuck and his crew and has WSB spec Ohlins forks with Magesium triple clamps, massive Bembo Monobrocks, Marchisini wheels, kit swing arm, monster radiator, and the list goes on and on. My bike is the one in the article a many years back in Motorcyclist. Its a R7 frame witha 185 HP R1 Superbike motor. I would value my bike at around 25k or so. This bike is a tarted up street R1. God bless this guy if he gets a 25k offer. I guess that would make mine worth around $150k.
Anyone shocked? Zero Bids LOL The listing and relisting fees are going are going to get expensive.
Bidding has ended on this item. The seller has relisted this item or one like this
This bike is local to me. I had no idea seller listed it for $25k, but what I do know is he’s trying to sell it now for $6,500. It can now be found on craigslist.com/Sacramento Ca..
He also has an R6 and is trying to sell them both for $12k or trade.
