The littlest of Fizzers has a cult-like following among the sport bike crowd, and it is easy to see why. With the same good looks bestowed upon the larger of the FZR lineup – but in a potent package of high revs, light weight and great handling – the smallest of the breed imported into the US continues to be a sought after machine.
From the seller:
1989 Yamaha FZR 400! This bike is in pretty good overall condition! They were only imported into the U.S for three years (1987-1990). Most of these went straight from the dealer to the race track. Great entry point for a lot of racers! The engine is a inline four cylindar that has a redline of about 14,000 RPM and will produce 50-60 hp in stock trim. Classic Yamaha Red / White color scheme. Yoshimura exhaust. 16,052 miles. It is missing the front right turn signal and there is no title to this bike. Only a bill of sale. Low cost shipping is available to the lower 48 states.
The lack of title on this one should have a commensurate impact on price; as these machines were legally imported into the US by Yamaha, they should all have titles. Missing paperwork aside, this looks to be a slightly modded bike between the exhaust and tack-on turn signals. It would be interesting to determine what else has been done to it.
If you are looking for that special Christmas gift for that special someone, these FZR400 models are terrific track-day bikes, while still retaining usability on the street (something to think about as the 25th rapidly aproaches). Bidding has just started on this one, with the current price just below $600 with reserve in place. These models seem to top out at about $5k for a perfect example, so bid accordingly. Good Luck!

I love my FZR400’s, but this one….meh..
No title and it’s coming from a dealer!(?)
I see a lot of ‘things’ on this one like the battery corrosion on the left rear subframe, the lack of a right front turn signal, the left front signal isn’t factory, the upper has been painted or could be an aftermarket, the left mid is cracked, the tail section is scratched and has those damn truck cab signals (read- been drilled).
The upside is it *should* go cheap with no title and the overall condition being less than stellar.
I’m saying anything more than $1750 and you’ve been had. Just my .02 worth.
Lack of a title and the lock looks to have been “modifed” to accept a screwdriver to energize the ignition? Hmmm.. 🙂
Agree with the above comments. There are many clear warning signs that there’s a “story” behind this bike’s history that isn’t being disclosed. Pass.
Wow. Bidding is now up to 3k. That thing better run like a Rolex for what its selling for.
I want to buy your bike is it still for sale ? Thanks !
